Tirmizi lauds Qureshi's ‘Vanishing Points'
Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan's Envoy to the UAE, visited the exhibition 'Vanishing Points' by renowned Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi at Alserkal Avenue. The exhibition, curated by Nada Raza, Director of the Alserkal Arts Foundation, ran from April 13–20 and featured Qureshi's innovative works, including photography, video, paintings and a site-specific installation. During the tour, Ambassador Tirmizi received a detailed briefing from Curator Nada Raza on the conceptual depth and technical mastery of Qureshi's artworks. The Ambassador commended the artist's ability to capture Pakistan's cultural vibrancy, stating, 'Imran Qureshi's art vividly transforms Pakistan's day-to-day life into breathtaking visual narratives. 'Through his lens, the bustling streets, Sufi shrines, and architectural heritage come alive, arising a deep sense of connection. 'His depiction of a Sufi tomb with Qawwali resonating in the background is particularly mesmerising and emotionally powerful.' Ambassador Tirmizi emphasised the role of art as soft power in enhancing Pakistan's global image and fostering cross-cultural understanding. He highlighted the exceptional talent of Pakistani artists and called for greater international recognition of their contributions to contemporary art. Reaffirming the Embassy's commitment to promoting Pakistani culture, the Ambassador assured full support for future collaborations with institutions like Alserkal Avenue to showcase Pakistani artists in the UAE. 'We are eager to collaborate on platforms that amplify Pakistan's rich artistic heritage on the global stage,' he added. A recipient of Pakistan's Sitara-i-Imtiaz and France's Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Imran Qureshi is a pioneering figure in contemporary miniature painting. His works are part of prestigious collections at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, among others.

Pakistan hosts 8th International Army Team Spirit event in Kharian
Listen to article Pakistan Army hosted the 8th edition of the International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition at Kharian Garrison, drawing participation from local and international military teams. The 60-hour-long, high-intensity military exercise focused on patrolling in semi-mountainous terrain and was designed to enhance combat skills, adaptability, and teamwork through a shared exchange of tactics and innovative techniques. Seven teams from the Pakistan Army, a team from the Pakistan Navy, and 15 teams from friendly countries took part in the competition. The exercise has evolved into a prestigious platform for military-to-military engagement and professional development. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He praised the participants for their exceptional professionalism, resilience, and commitment shown throughout the exercise. 'The Pakistan Army is proud of its values of character, courage, and competence. These traits have been consistently demonstrated in our fight against terrorism,' General Munir stated. Held in the rugged hills of Punjab, the competition underscored Pakistan's ongoing efforts to promote regional military cooperation and enhance operational preparedness in realistic conditions. Earlier, the COAS on Thursday said that the peace and liberty enjoyed in Pakistan today are the outcome of the sacrifices made by the country's armed forces. The army chief made these remarks during an investiture ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). During the ceremony, General Asim Munir conferred military honours, including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat, on officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army.

Addressing a ceremony to award awards among the army officers and soldiers who demonstrated courage and bravery, Gen Asim expressed his profound admiration for the resilience and fortitude of the families of the Shuhada, acknowledging their unparalleled sacrifices for the homeland. At the investiture ceremony at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Gen Asim Munir conferred the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat on the soldiers and officers in recognition of their distinguished service to the nation and display of exceptional valour during operations. According to a news release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) here, the ceremony was attended by a large number of senior military officials and families of the award recipients. It added that medals awarded posthumously were received with honour by the families of the Shuhada. In his address the army chief paid homage to the martyrs and veterans. "Shuhada and Ghazis are our enduring pride. Their honour and reverence are a sacred trust upon every Pakistani," he said. "The peace and liberty we cherish today are the result of the ultimate sacrifices rendered by these valiant sons of the soil," he added. He expressed profound admiration for the resilience and fortitude of the families of the Shuhada and their unparalleled sacrifices for the homeland. Commending the unyielding resolve of the Pakistan Army and law-enforcement agencies (LEAs), the COAS appreciated their relentless efforts in thwarting multiple terrorist threats and eliminating high-value terrorist operatives during ongoing counterterrorism operations. Separate investiture ceremonies were also held at Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi corps to honour the bravery and meritorious service of the officers and soldiers, the ISPR stated in a separate news release. Senior PPP leader Senator Taj Haider passes away in Karachi
Listen to article Senator Taj Haider, a founding member of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and a veteran politician, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 83 following a brief illness. According to family sources, Taj Haider had been receiving treatment at a local hospital. Details regarding his funeral and burial will be announced later. Born on March 8, 1942, in Kota, Rajasthan, Taj Haider belonged to a scholarly family and completed his early education at Government Boys High School in Ranchor Line, Karachi. In addition to his political career, Taj Haider was also active in the arts and media. He wrote for television and newspapers and played the role of Professor Audiwala in the TV drama Aabla Pa. He was a recipient of several accolades, including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2012 for his contributions to science and the 13th PTV Award for Best Drama Serial Writer in 2006. Taj Haider became involved with the socialist movement in 1967 and officially joined the PPP the same year. He was one of the original members of the party, founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his condolences, calling Taj Haider's death a deep loss for the party. 'Taj Haider was a wise, composed, and visionary political leader. He dedicated his life to democracy and public service,' Murad Ali Shah said. PPP leader Waqar Mehdi also paid tribute, stating, 'Taj Haider was a long-time comrade and a committed political worker. He was one of the party's foundational and ideological members. His services will not be forgotten.'
