Actress Lisdawati still keeping telekung sewn by her mother
Lisdawati (right) with her mum. Photo: Lisdawati/Instagram The success of local telekung (Muslim women's prayer garment) brand Siti Khadijah reminds versatile actress Lisdawati of her mother Risda Chalidi, who supported the family by sewing and selling prayer garments. Lisdawati, 47, whose real name is Nisdawati Nazaruddin, 47, said her mother was hardworking and that she and her siblings grew up on the income their mother received from selling telekung sewn by her. "That's why I feel proud of Siti Khadijah's success and feel compelled to support the brand,' she said when met at the recent launch of the brand's latest face design Maharani. The Mitos Cinta Akira drama actress shared that her mother had been sewing prayer garments since she was young, only slowing down after Lisdawati became an actress. "My (69-year-old) mother hasn't been sewing for a long time now. These days, she spends more time resting and studying religion. But I'm still keeping one of the telekung she sewed. I take good care of it and occasionally use it because it's deeply meaningful to me,' she said. Lisdawati, meanwhile, also revealed that her life took a major turn after performing the Haj in 2023, leading her to reflect more deeply on life and spirituality. "When you realise that our future is death, you start to think about this temporary life. So, I need to fill it with things that please God, do good and keep striving to be a better human,' she said. She added that her modest dressing style reflects a continuous effort to draw closer to God, without neglecting her responsibilities as an actress, wife and mother. Lisdawati, who is married to actor and director Fauzi Nawawi, said she remains open to accepting acting offers as long as they do not go against her personal principles. "I'm not limiting the type of roles I want to do, but there are certain conditions, especially when it comes to dressing and physical contact. Thankfully, the production teams have been understanding and cooperative so far. "I'm still working because I feel it's my responsibility to support my mother. This income isn't just mine, it's the family's,' she said, adding she will soon appear in the film Munajat Kekasih , directed by Osman Ali, alongside Mira Filzah and Remy Ishak. – Bernama

Our Malaysian cats are roaring ... The top eight finalists for Cat Fashion Week have been finalised
It's official ...The Top Eight Cat Fashion Week list was officially announced through a special segment on the NONA program last week. As the first reality programme in Malaysia to put the feline as the main star of the show, Cat Fashion Week is not just a fashion event, it celebrates the character, charm, and special relationship between owners and their pets. This unique concept not only touches the heart but also brings the cat lover community together across the country. From hundreds of entries received, only 20 cats were selected for the pre-judging round that day to showcase their respective styles inspired by their owners' creativity. In a meticulous judging session, judge Yuen Wai explained, 'It's called Cat Fashion Week, so one of the main criteria we will judge is the clothes the cats wear, and also when we have a fashion show, we will also udge the cat's beauty. "These two things are quite important in our evaluation. If the cat is beautiful no matter what, but if she's not confident, she's afraid, so she doesn't wear that outfit. The compatibility of the cat with the owner is also important. We want to find a winner who is balanced.' Here are the Top 8 who will compete on the catwalk at Cat Fashion Week: 1. Nurul Izzah & Omey (Male, Siberian); 2. Nurul Awwal & Chibu (Male, Domestic Long Hair); 3. Nurmayani & Kristoff (Male, Ragdoll); 4. Siti Rohani & Goyem (Male, Domestic Long Hair); 5. Farahin Zakaria & Junny (Female, Persian); 6. Zakry Shazryl & Winter Notty (Male, Munchkin); 7. Anis Halyatie & Evian Evan (Male, Ragdoll); 8. Last Sunday's episode of NONA also featured one of the Top 8 finalists, Mocha, a Domestic Long Hair female cat who loves to be petted like a little child. According to her owner, Siti Khadijah, "I have fully taken care of Mocha since she was a little girl until now, she is 4 years old. My sister gave her to me as a gift... and I entered Cat Fashion Week just for fun, I just wanted to try it once, at least we can have an experience and a sweet moment together." Mocha, who is spoiled at home but fierce outside, also likes to be in high places and walk in the park, making her one of the most outstanding participants in the eyes of the judges. Follow the exciting story of the next finalist in a special segment of Cat Fashion Week through the NONA program, every Sunday at 2 pm, only on TV3. Siti Khadijah Unveils New ‘Maharani' Face Design
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- After a decade since its last face design, prayerwear and lifestyle brand pioneer Siti Khadijah today unveiled its latest collection, Maharani. Its founder, Padzilah Enda Sulaiman, said the sixth face design symbolises the brand's evolution and a tribute to women who embody grace, resilience and heritage - values that have defined Siti Khadijah since its inception in 2009. 'Maharani is more than just a new face design. It reflects our long journey in understanding the true needs of women. The process took time, but every step was approached with care and meaning,' she said at the launch ceremony. Padzilah Enda said Maharani builds on two of the brand's iconic face designs, namely Original, introduced in 2009 featuring a firm awning, and Harmoni (2016), which mimics an inner scarf at the forehead for a softer and lighter fit suitable for all-day wear. She said the name Maharani was inspired by the symbolic use of the awning, which resembles a tiara. 'The design makes Maharani both functional and elegant, a testament to Siti Khadijah's continuous innovation in offering comfort through every creation,' she added. In conjunction with the launch, the brand also introduced three new telekung collections featuring the Maharani face design. They are: Broderie Zahara, featuring intricate classic embroidery; Flair Sabira, offering a flowy, modern cut with lightweight textures; and Modish Maira Midi, with a mid-length cut ideal for use in the Holy Land. 'All three collections prioritise comfort, refined craftsmanship and contemporary style in line with the values and aesthetic of the Siti Khadijah brand,' she said.

Mother's heartbreak: Daughter killed in Sibu crash wanted to wear 'tangu' for Gawai
Aveera wearing a 'tangu'. SIBU (May 6): Six-year-old Alverry Aveera Abdullah, who perished in a collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry at Jalan Salim here yesterday, had wanted to wear a 'tangu' for Gawai Dayak this year. According to her mother Siti Khadijah Abdullah, Aveera often asked when the 'tangu' – beaded chest adornment which is a part of Iban women traditional costume – that she had been making would be ready. 'I worked hard to finish the 'tangu' quickly despite many mistakes made along the way. I even bought 'kain tating' because we think it will look beautiful on you. 'But we never thought that you would leave us this soon,' Siti Khadijah said in a heart wrenching post on Facebook accompanied by photos of her daughter. The 'tangu' made by Siti Khadijah for her daughter. Siti Khadijah also lost her father Uchong Antang, 80, in the incident that occurred at about 11.20am. When contacted, she said that her father was picking her daughter up from school to take her to their longhouse before the incident. She also said that Aveera was buried at Kemuyang Muslim Cemetery this afternoon, while a funeral wake for her father will be held at Rumah Grace Itun in Jalan Salim. Siti Khadijah appealed to social media users to stop spreading the video of the incident. In a statement yesterday, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the elderly man who rode the motorcycle was confirmed dead at the scene while his pillion rider, the girl, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital. 'Initial investigations indicated that the motorcycle was exiting the junction at Rumah Birai into Jalan Salim when it was hit by a lorry coming from Sibu Jaya. 'The lorry driver failed to avoid the motorcycle,' he said. The case is being investigated under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Alverry Aveera Abdullah lead tangu
