The success of local telekung (Muslim women's prayer garment) brand Siti Khadijah reminds versatile actress Lisdawati of her mother Risda Chalidi, who supported the family by sewing and selling prayer garments.
Lisdawati, 47, whose real name is Nisdawati Nazaruddin, 47, said her mother was hardworking and that she and her siblings grew up on the income their mother received from selling telekung sewn by her.
"That's why I feel proud of Siti Khadijah's success and feel compelled to support the brand,' she said when met at the recent launch of the brand's latest face design Maharani.
The Mitos Cinta Akira drama actress shared that her mother had been sewing prayer garments since she was young, only slowing down after Lisdawati became an actress.
"My (69-year-old) mother hasn't been sewing for a long time now. These days, she spends more time resting and studying religion. But I'm still keeping one of the telekung she sewed. I take good care of it and occasionally use it because it's deeply meaningful to me,' she said.
Lisdawati, meanwhile, also revealed that her life took a major turn after performing the Haj in 2023, leading her to reflect more deeply on life and spirituality.
"When you realise that our future is death, you start to think about this temporary life. So, I need to fill it with things that please God, do good and keep striving to be a better human,' she said.
She added that her modest dressing style reflects a continuous effort to draw closer to God, without neglecting her responsibilities as an actress, wife and mother.
Lisdawati, who is married to actor and director Fauzi Nawawi, said she remains open to accepting acting offers as long as they do not go against her personal principles.
"I'm not limiting the type of roles I want to do, but there are certain conditions, especially when it comes to dressing and physical contact. Thankfully, the production teams have been understanding and cooperative so far.
"I'm still working because I feel it's my responsibility to support my mother. This income isn't just mine, it's the family's,' she said, adding she will soon appear in the film Munajat Kekasih , directed by Osman Ali, alongside Mira Filzah and Remy Ishak. – Bernama

Published on: Friday, July 18, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 18, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Landscape workers and volunteers actively carried out preparation works at the Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) @ Labuan 2025 site on Friday. - fotoBERNAMA LABUAN: Preparations for the Borneo Flora Festival 2025 are well underway, with thousands of flowering plants being placed across the island, in stages, to create a vibrant and festive atmosphere ahead of the grand event. A wide variety of vibrant plants is being meticulously arranged at strategic locations, including the main venue at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex, the Financial Park Complex, major roundabouts, public parks, and key gateways, such as Labuan Airport and ferry terminals. Advertisement Labuan Corporation chief executive officer, Mohd Sukuran Taib, said that the initiative aims to transform Labuan into a 'living garden', reflecting this year's festival theme of celebrating biodiversity, conservation and community creativity. The Borneo Flora Festival 2025, organised by Putrajaya Corporation in collaboration with Labuan Corporation, the Federal Territories Department, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall, will officially kick off on July 26. Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, is scheduled to grace the opening ceremony at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex. This year's festival will feature more than 29 themed gardens, showcasing exotic and endangered flora native to Borneo, alongside contemporary landscape designs presented by local councils, private sector players, and community groups. 'The five-day event will include plant exhibitions, soft and hard landscape gardens, eco-talks, art installations, live performances by Malaysian artists, and family-friendly activities designed to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable living,' Mohd Sukuran said. He added that the polybag planting strategy was adopted not only to enhance aesthetics, but also to allow for flexible, controlled growth and easier relocation, as the final designs take shape. 'Each phase of planting has been meticulously planned to ensure that the flowers are in full bloom when the festival begins. The strategic placement of 250,000 flowering plants across the island is part of our broader effort to infuse Labuan with the vibrant spirit of the festival,' he said. He said that the massive undertaking involves close coordination between municipal landscape teams, horticulturists, and local volunteers. The Borneo Flora Festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors, both domestic and international, including tourists from neighbouring Kalimantan and Brunei, boosted by an aggressive promotional campaign and improved ferry connectivity to Kota Kinabalu and beyond. With hotel rooms, homestays, and serviced apartments still available, organisers are encouraging visitors to plan ahead and experience what promises to be Labuan's most colourful and eco-conscious celebration yet. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Did Britney Spears adopt a baby or is she trolling Instagram?

Britney Spears (pic) caused a frenzy online when she seemingly announced she had adopted a baby girl. On Monday, the Toxic singer raised eyebrows with an Instagram post with a captioned that said, among other things, 'I want to let you guys know I adopted a beautiful baby girl.' Spears paired the message with a video of herself dancing and 3 winking emojis. 'Her name is Lennon London Spears,' she added. However, sources close to Spears say the Grammy-winning singer has not adopted a daughter and that the 'announcement' was a harmless joke. Along with her bit, Spears also wrote, 'Lennon today has on adorable dress !!! It says I'm NEW HERE !!!' she said with laughing emojis. Many fans speculated that she may have been sharing that she was adopting a dog, but sources told TMZ she in fact didn't adopt a fur baby either. Spears' post also claimed she has plans to move to Italy, but it turns out that's not happening either. While Spears hasn't adopted any new children, she recently had her first visit in quite some time with her 18-year-old son Jayden, whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline. They also share 18-year-old son Shawn Preston Federline. After years of separation, Spears and her youngest spent last Christmas together. 'Best Christmas of my life,' Spears captioned an Instagram post at the time. 'I haven't seen my boys in 2 years !!! Tears of joy and literally in shock everyday koo koo crazy so in love and blessed !!! I'm speechless thank you Jesus !!!' The 43-year-old shared another post later that month gushing about the reunion and calling Jayden a 'miracle.' 'He came back and he feels older and smarter than me,' Spears wrote. 'He's a man and I cry everyday of my life because of the miracle and genius he is !!!' – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
