Cop from Nilgiris jailed for abusing dog trainer by caste name
Coimbatore: A police constable attached to the Nelakottai police station in the Nilgiri district was arrested on Saturday for abusing a 33-year-old man using his caste name. The arrested cop is identified as S Marutha Vinayagam, a native of Tirunelveli. According to a police officer, S Sivagnanam, a dog trainer from Mayiladuthurai district, moved to Coimbatore in 2007 and was residing at Lakshmi Nagar at Bommanampalayam near Vadavalli. He was working at a kennel owned by Ravichandran at IOB Colony in the city. "In 2021, when Sivagnanam attended a dog show in Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, Ravichandran introduced him to Marutha Vinayagam. Subsequently, the cop asked Sivagnanam to train his dog for upcoming shows. Sivagnanam handled the cop's dog at the (dog) shows held in Coimbatore and Ooty from 2022 to 2024." a police officer said. According to the officer, Ravichandran bought two Kanni (breed) dogs from the police constable in 2024. Unsatisfied with the quality of dogs, Ravichandran attempted to return them to the cop, who refused to take them back, he said. "Ravichandran then gave the two dogs to his friends. When Marutha Vinayagam came to know about this, he quarreled with Ravichandran and visited his kennel in a drunken state on Friday and asked Sivagnanam to give him three dogs from the kennel," the officer said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Colombia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo However, Sivagnanam replied that he could not give the dogs without his employer's knowledge. Irked by this, the cop abused Sivagnanam mentioning his caste name and threatened him before leaving the kennel, the officer said. "Later that day, Marutha Vinayagam sent abusive messages to Sivagnanam's friend Franklin, mentioning Sivagnanam's community name. He also insulted his superior police officers and claimed that no one could take action against him." the officer said. On Friday night, Sivagnanam lodged a complaint with the Vadavalli police, who registered a case against Marutha Vinayagam under section 296(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 3(i)(s) and 3(2)(vii) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Marutha Vinayagam was arrested on Saturday and lodged in jail under judicial custody after producing him before a judicial magistrate. Further investigation is on. How Vinod Sivagnanam Uses AI to Personalize E-Commerce
How Vinod Sivagnanam Uses AI to Personalize E-Commerce Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are allowing for greater personalization in e-commerce, whether in algorithmic pairing of consumers with the products they most desire or in customer service and support. One leader in this new field is Vinod Sivagnanam, who has led product management at several of the largest global tech companies, expanding their businesses into new countries and using AI to redesign their e-commerce platforms and payment solutions. Vinod Sivagnanam's Story Sivagnanam's product career has been marked by ongoing growth and personal transformation. He began his efforts as a technology consultant, working with a global consulting firm in their digital strategy practice. Afterward, he helped a major online retailer expand its retail and payments operations globally, launching in new countries on two additional continents. As a part of that project, he designed cross-border payment solutions for sellers who would use the company's online retail marketplace within highly regulated markets. He onboarded thousands of international sellers. To overcome the regulatory hurdles for cross-border expansion, Sivagnanam had to propose an innovative payment system to senior executives; he made his case and proved able to both persuade investors and adapt to the complexity of the international regulatory map. He led cross-functional and international teams under high pressure to launch technically complex products under aggressive timelines, with a lasting impact on the company's revenue and reach. Today, Sivagnanam works at a U.S. - based software services company, where he is leading a redesign of the company's e-commerce storefront technologies and using the capabilities of AI to design a more robust, personalized customer experience. Through each of these experiences, Sivagnanam has developed a unique tapestry of expertise. He knows how to adapt e-commerce platforms to a swiftly evolving (and international) regulatory environment; he knows how to persuade investors and senior executives to greenlight ambitious projects; he knows how to apply AI models to optimize personalization in e-commerce platforms; and he knows how to achieve these changes through a customer-centric mindset and perspective. What's Next for Vinod Sivagnanam Looking ahead, Sivagnanam plans to continue building disruptive, AI-powered products for fintech and e-commerce. He dreams of a type of personalized shopping that does not currently exist but that could exist. 'I want to revolutionize online shopping by reducing the time to make purchase decisions,' Sivagnanam says. He gives the example of a consumer typing 'brown sneakers that go with blue jeans,' hitting an order button, and having the product show up on their doorstep. This would require innovative technologies and a machine learning model that could understand the consumer's buying history and preferences with more nuance than existing models. Sivagnanam also wants to work to make borderless commerce possible – 'allowing anyone to buy or sell anything to anyone worldwide.' Increasingly, global commerce markets make such a move desirable, and Sivagnanam's past achievements in cross-border payments solutions demonstrate that borderless commerce is within reach. In the years ahead, Sivagnanam intends to help lead the effort to make that future happen.

Calcutta HC to hear primary teachers' termination appeals on Apr 28
The Calcutta High Court will on April 28 take up for hearing appeals challenging the termination of around 32,000 jobs of primary teachers. The matter was mentioned on Monday (April 21, 2025) before a division bench, comprising justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, before which the appeals were assigned by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam after another bench released the matter. Also read | West Bengal recruitment scam The division bench said that the appeals by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and others, including some of those who were recruited, challenging the termination of jobs of primary teachers by a single bench, will appear before it on April 28 for hearing. Releasing the matter from its court on April 7, a division bench comprising justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De directed that the appeals be placed before Chief Justice Sivagnanam for assignment to a different bench. The division bench cited "personal reason" of Justice Sen for releasing the matter from its list for hearing. A single bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had on May 12, 2023, ordered the cancellation of the appointment of around 32,000 candidates who had not completed the teachers' training course when they were recruited as primary teachers through a selection process in 2016 on the basis of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) of 2014. A division bench had later stayed the single bench order terminating the jobs of around 32,000 teachers in West Bengal government-run and aided primary schools.
