'Someone said is it the Spanish flag?'

The RNLI urged beachgoers to learn the meaning of safety flags to prevent people have died on the Lincolnshire coast in the last three months in separate incidents at Skegness, Ingoldmells and Anderby Creek. RNLI Senior lifeguard Lois Kemp, 26, said it was "worrying" that some people did not know the meanings of the different flags."I've had some people come and ask me if it's the Spanish flag," she said, referring to the red and yellow flag which marks a designated swimming area monitored by lifeguards. "It's generally the safest area you can swim," she said."It's also the area we can respond to you the quickest."Ms Kemp said the RNLI in Skegness had been raising awareness about beach safety by visiting local schools."The most important thing we do is prevention," she said."You obviously want to stop any bad incident before it happens." On 25 May, Lincolnshire police said a 60-year-old man died after attempting to help two children who appeared to be in distress in the sea at a separate incident at the end of June, a body was found by emergency crews searching for a teenage boy who had been reported missing at Anderby the start of July, the family of 29-year-old Aaron Keightley paid tribute to him after he died when getting into difficulty in the sea off Kemp said if people do find themselves in trouble in the water they should "float to live"."Make a star float on your back, head up to the sky, shout for help and wait for assistance," she said. Homes with a sea view now demand £90,000 premium - we reveal the location most

Buyers hunting for a costal home know they'll need to pay over the odds to secure one of these in demand properties. But add a sea view to the wish list and they can expect to hand over an extra £90,000 for the pleasure, new research reveals. Property portal Rightmove has found homes with a coastal view are listed for one-third more than seaside properties without one. Sellers across the nation ask for £275,074 for the average coastal home – but add a sea view and the listed price surges to £363,181, some £88,106 extra. In one region, buyers could pay almost 70 per cent more on average for the privilege of having a view of the sea, the data shows. Homes in the East Midlands are listed for £428,330 if they have a sea view while those in coastal areas without a view are put on the market for £254,544 – a £173,786 gap. In the region, it's properties in resort town Skegness that see the biggest hike for a sea view – some 72 per cent extra. Next is the South West – home to the costal hotspots Devon and Cornwall – where homes with a sea view cost an extra 44 per cent as price tags are hiked from £280,185 to £405,676. Taking bronze spot is Scotland, where coastal towns include North Berwick, Oban and St Andrews. Scottish sellers ask for £152,606 for their costal properties – but if buyers add a sea view on to the list of the demands and the asking price soars to £218,867. That's a 43 per cent difference, or £66,261. Rightmove explained the exclusivity of properties with a sea view could be driving up the price tag as swathes of buyers are in demand for a limited supply of properties. Mary Lou-Press, of estate agent industry body Propertymark, said: 'The surge in people working remotely since the pandemic has no doubt resulted in an increase in demand for properties with seaside views.' Droves of families flocked out of cities in the wake of the pandemic in a so-called race for space as hybrid working allowed for people to live far from their workplaces. While this has calmed slightly as employees return to commuting several days a week, many hybrid workers are still based in more rural and coastal locations – and naturally want views of the coastal landscape. However, Ms Lou-Press said the price premium added to these seaside homes is also down to location, quality of the view and appeal of the area. After Scotland, it's sea view properties in the North East that have the biggest premium – some 28 per cent. For Yorkshire and the Humber it's 27 per cent, 26 per cent for the northwest and in the east of England sea view properties cost 25 per cent more. These price tags are asking prices and buyers may well negotiate to shave tens of thousands of pounds of the listed price. Or they could instead offer more than the asking price to secure a sale in these in-demand hotspots. The region with one of the smallest premiums is Wales – home to the Gower and Llŷn Peninsulas – where seaside views are on offer for only 24 per cent more than a standard coastal property. At the bottom of the list is the South East, which is full of seaside favourites such as Whitstable, Margate and Hastings. A typical coastal property here is on the market for £300,612 but the price tag for one with a sea view is listed for £367,209 – just 22 per cent more. Buyers who want to secure one of these in demand properties will have the most luck in Torbay, Bournemouth and Cornwall – the coastal spots with the highest number of available homes with a sea view. In fact, only one spot on the list of places with abundant sea view properties is not in the south of England; North Yorkshire places number ten. It's home to popular town Whitby, seaside resort Scarborough and fishing village Robin Hood's Bay. Quick mortgage finder links with This is Money's partner L&C > Mortgage rates calculator > Find the right mortgage for you What if I need to remortgage? Borrowers should compare rates, speak to a mortgage broker and be prepared to act. Homeowners can lock in to a new deal six to nine months in advance, often with no obligation to take it. Most mortgage deals allow fees to be added to the loan and only be charged when it is taken out. This means borrowers can secure a rate without paying expensive arrangement fees. Keep in mind that by doing this and not clearing the fee on completion, interest will be paid on the fee amount over the entire term of the loan, so this may not be the best option for everyone. What if I am buying a home? Those with home purchases agreed should also aim to secure rates as soon as possible, so they know exactly what their monthly payments will be. Buyers should avoid overstretching and be aware that house prices may fall, as higher mortgage rates limit people's borrowing ability and buying power. What about buy-to-let landlords Buy-to-let landlords with interest-only mortgages will see a greater jump in monthly costs than homeowners on residential mortgages. This makes remortgaging in plenty of time essential and our partner L&C can help with buy-to-let mortgages too. Coleen Rooney, Ed Sheeran and Stacey Solomon are all flocking to the same astounding and cheap British resort for their holidays... now JOANNA TWEEDY reveals why

His parents have private jets on speed-dial and a penchant for five-star resorts such as Nobu Marbella and Sandy Lane in Barbados. And yet, according to his famous mum, his 'best holiday ever' was, well, more bucket-and-spade than bougie. Coleen, 39, told her I'm a Celebrity campmates last year how she'd buckled in the face of pester power and taken teenager Kai and his younger brothers Klay, Kit and Cass, to Butlin's in Skegness. The verdict? Her brood loved it.

GK Barry teases when she will pop the question to girlfriend Ella Rutherford as their relationship gets serious almost a year after going public

GK Barry has teased when she will pop the question to her girlfriend Ella Rutherford as she gave an insight into their relationship. The TikTok star and Ipswich Town footballer, both 25, publicly confirmed their relationship in August 2024 after months of dating rumours and keeping the relationship private. And while GK, real name Grace Keeling, often jokingly calls Ella her 'wife', she has now admitted she will be the one to propose to the sports star. Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Grace revealed: 'Ella's always like, "When are you proposing, then?" She asked me to be her girlfriend, so it's definitely me getting on the knee.' The star confirmed it will be a destination proposal as she added: 'But we need to explore more countries, see which we like, then I can propose there. 'I'm not proposing in Skegness. She just needs to be patient — but patience isn't one of Ella's virtues.' It seems the couple have done a U-turn on who would pop the question after Grace previously revealed it would be the footballer getting down on one knee. Speaking to The Sun on Sunday at the beginning of the year, she admitted that her and Ella have already confirmed they are getting married and having kids. But sharing that the milestones could be a while off yet, Grace said: 'One day, it's going to happen, not yet, we're both set on doing well in our careers. 'Then she'll get down on one knee!' GK previously admitted she was 'terrified' of first meeting Ella as she hadn't yet dated a woman after coming out. She said: 'I knew I was bi, but I was really scared to date a woman. It was territory I'd never been in. I was really terrified to meet Ella. We had a mutual friend. 'I looked at her Instagram and I thought, "look at the calves on that! There's no way I'm letting her go." So I plucked up the courage and went on a date.' Back in April Ella shared a rare insight into her relationship with Grace as she admitted 'she's changed my life for the better'. Speaking on talkSPORT's The Kickback, Ella said: 'She [GK Barry] really just became, straight away, as soon as I met her, that rock - that I obviously had with family and stuff but I think it's different when you've got a partner and you're going home to them every night. 'She's been a massive part of why I'm so happy on the outside if people do see that. Since I met her, she's changed my life for the better.' Ella added: 'She's flourished into her wag era. She's cooking dinners and enjoying just coming to the game with her prosecco. 'She hasn't got a clue what's going on. I asked "babe what do you do when I'm playing?" and she's just like "I just watch you". 'Sometimes she'll say like "that was a free kick" and she'll know a corner but I do need to sit her down. 'At the start I was banging my head because she didn't know what goal we were scoring in or what team we were - I said "we're wearing all blue babe you need to just look at our team". 'But she's come on, bless her. That's nice for me as well because she really does try to understand it as well as me understanding what she does and supporting her. 'She's been a massive support for me this year so that's been nice.'
