Family fun day marks reopening of Skipton games area
A FAMILY fun day was held for the reopening of the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Skipton's North Parade recreation ground. The event was organised by Skipton Town Council to mark the official reopening following refurbishment of the games area made possible thanks to funding from Hull-based company JP Developers. There was plenty to keep everyone entertained including a bouncy castle, giant garden games, Kanga Sports sessions, and arts and crafts – also sponsored by JP Developers. The community centre welcomed visitors with complimentary refreshments and healthy snacks generously donated by Morrisons, while local businesses ran stalls to raise funds for a variety of charities. JP Developers also presented the town council with a plaque that will go up at the recreation ground in recognition of the company's contribution. Russell Page, social value manager, JP Developers, said "It's great to see the local community attending the launch of the MUGA regeneration project. It will provide a great facility for the residents to enjoy whilst improving their physical well-being. As a construction company, we place great importance on supporting local community initiatives through the Your4Good Fund, and we are pleased to have funded this project. " A spokesperson for Skipton Town Council said: 'This refurbishment means so much to our community, and it's fantastic to see families coming together to enjoy the new facilities. We are extremely grateful to JP Developers for making this possible, and to all the local businesses who supported today's event.' The refurbished MUGA is now open for public use, offering improved facilities for sports, play, and community gatherings for years to come.

Skipton community day will include new £1.27m dedicated gymnasium
THIS month's Skipton Sport and Community Day will include the opening of a new £1.27m dedicated facility for Craven gymnasts. Those taking part in the community day at Sandylands Sports Centre will get sight of the newly built, permanent home of Craven Gymnastics Club - recognised by British Gymnastics as one of the few purpose built community gymnasiums in the UK. The building includes a cafe, run by Brown Bag Cafe, Otley Street; and a new home for Quest Karate Club. The space will also host various other 'multi-use' activities. Taking place on Sunday, August 31, the free event, jointly organised by Sandylands and Skipton Town Council, promises something for everyone including sports taster sessions, large inflatables and food and drink. Many community groups will be in attendance, as well as the police and local radio, with the aim of bringing people together, promote healthy and active lifestyles and highlight the number of clubs and activities available in the area. Karen Stirk from Craven Gymnastics Club said: 'The new dedicated gymnasium will allow us the space to facilitate for more local gymnastics than ever before, all the way from pre-school to adults, and offer programmes for all sections of the community. "We are proud to offer a safe, fun, and structured environment where every gymnast can thrive, whatever their level. We will now operate with a few full-time coaches alongside the rest of our devoted team, to ensure the level of instruction we give is of the highest standard and matches our brand-new facility.' Daile Coope, centre manager at Sandylands, said there was an established working relationship and synergy of both organisations. He said: 'Both the sports centre and Craven Gymnastics Club have recently become Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIO), which allows for a progressive governance structure and fits neatly with our developing partnership as we both share the same set of goals and values.' The new dedicated building promises a new chapter for local gymnastics, within the Sandylands Sports Centre, off Carleton New Road. It will mean Craven Gymnastics Club will be able to offer a wide-ranging programme giving an accessible pathway for young gymnasts and new opportunities for more advanced training, which is only currently available over 25 miles away. Final preparations are underway for the event, which will take place from 10am to 2pm. It is supported by Skipton Town Council, Skipton BID, the police and North Yorkshire Council. Clubs or groups wanting to take part can contact Toby Garbutt at Skipton Town Council at toby@ or Sandylands Sports Centre on 01756795181 or via email on info@

Skipton's 2025 gala queen and her attendants announced
DELILAH Gray is set to be crowned this year's Skipton Gala Queen following a selection process at the town's Alexander's cafe bar. Delilah, who will be crowned at June's gala, will be joined by attendants, Joshua Gaunt and Cara Hextall, who were also chosen at the event. A spokesperson for Skipton Town Council, which is organising the gala for the first time, thanked Susannah Daley and the Alexander's team for hosting the evening. Judges were Skipton Mayor, Claire Nash; Alexander's general manager, David Broughton, and managing director of Peel X and Peel Roleplay Jessica Wright. Mr Broughton said: "It was really wonderful to host the event at Alexander's and meeting all of the fantastic applicants. I feel we've picked a very special Gala Queen in Delilah, and very worthy attendants in Cara and Joshua. "All three demonstrated the kind and caring nature of Skipton and will do the Gala and the town proud. Well done to all the runners-up too, it was a tough decision to make with so many worthy candidates." The town council spokesperson added: "The expertise and dedication of the judges ensured a thoughtful and smooth selection process, ultimately helping us choose the best representatives for the 2025 gala. "We look forward to sharing more details about Skipton Gala in the weeks ahead and are excited to celebrate together with our wonderful community on Saturday June 14."
