OnePlus might have an iPad Mini killer on the way
Handheld-friendly tablets are making a comeback, and OnePlus seems ready to get involved. According to a new leak from Chinese tipster Smart Pikachu, the company is working on a compact 8-inch tablet with a 3K display, a 165Hz refresh rate, and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 power — clearly hinting at a gaming-first the thing is we recently covered another leak pointing to a similarly sized device, the OnePlus Pad Mini, also powered by a flagship Snapdragon chip. That device was described as a compact productivity powerhouse, not a gaming are these actually the same product? Both devices are rumored to feature an 8-inch display (a major step down from the 13.2-inch OnePlus Pad 3), and both are tipped to run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite-class chipset — either called the Gen 2 or simply Elite 2. The display on the 'gaming tablet' leak is reportedly a 3K panel with 165Hz refresh rate, which would also be a draw for creative professionals or power users. With similar specs and form factor, OnePlus may be developing a single high-end compact tablet that can serve both gamers and productivity-focused users, depending on accessories, software features, and how it's marketed. Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could crush the benchmarks. | Image credit — Qualcom The rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is shaping up to be a beast. Early Geekbench 6 scores tip it to hit over 4,000 in single-core and 11,000 in multi-core, marking a major leap over the current Snapdragon 8 Elite. The chip is expected to feature custom Oryon cores, a 4.6GHz clock speed, and an Adreno 840 GPU capable of topping 4 million in kind of performance would make this tablet more powerful than many current-gen Android flagships — and a serious threat to the iPad Mini with A17 hasn't confirmed the device or named it yet. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to launch in late September, which means a debut for the device sometime in early 2026 feels likely. Whether it ends up being called the OnePlus Pad Mini, the OnePlus Gaming Tablet, or something else entirely, one thing is clear: compact Android tablets are about to get a whole lot more interesting.

The Huawei Mate XT remains the only commercially available tri-foldable out heavily sanctioned (by numerous US administrations) company is now rumored to be preparing a second iteration of the Huawei Mate XT. What's more, a Weibo (that's the Chinese alternative to X) tipster claims the next Huawei Mate XT phone will drop come September (so, a bit over two months from now). While there are no specific hardware or software-related leaks, the tipster (called Smart Pikachu) claims the phone will support satellite connectivity. Also, the next version of the Mate XT (will it be called Mate XT 2?) should offer an upgraded chipset, as well as enhancements on the camera front, but Smart Pikachu doesn't go in detail about what to are some leaks pointing at the possibility that Huawei's upcoming Mate XT 2 may feature a major upgrade in its display, using advanced ultra-flexible glass (UFG) technology. This same material is used in Samsung's W25, a premium version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 available only in China. UFG offers better durability and flexibility than the ultra-thin glass (UTG) found in most foldable phones . It's also hinted that a Chinese manufacturer may be emerging as a rival to Germany's Schott, which currently supplies Samsung with its UFG thicker and heavier than typical foldables, the original Huawei Mate XT manages to feel comfortable in the hand and transforms into a 10.2-inch tablet with a cinematic 16:11 aspect ratio – ideal for media and productivity. The 3K OLED screen is visually stunning, although limited to a 90 Hz refresh rate, a small compromise likely made for better power is solid for everyday tasks and most games, though the in-house Kirin 9010 chip lags behind newer flagship processors, especially in graphics-heavy scenarios. International users may find the lack of native Google Services a drawback, especially those with professional Workspace accounts, although open-source solutions like microG offer partial workarounds for standard Google accounts.

OnePlus could challenge Lenovo with this rumored gaming tablet
Paul Jones / Android Authority TL;DR A Weibo tipster claims OnePlus is testing a compact gaming tablet with a 3K, 165Hz display. The device is said to have an 8.x-inch screen and a 'geeky and simple' design. The rumored tablet would follow the recently released Pad 3 and the upcoming Pad Lite. OnePlus has been pushing hard into the tablet space this year, and we might be about to see the manufacturer expand those ambitions. If the rumors prove accurate, a OnePlus compact gaming tablet may be on the way. According to reliable tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo (h/t NotebookCheck), the company is currently testing a new gaming tablet with an 8.x-inch display, 3K resolution, and a 165Hz refresh rate. The design is described as 'geeky and simple,' hinting at a stripped-down, no-frills look that prioritizes performance over flash. Weibo The leak didn't mention a name or release timeline, but the compact screen size and high refresh rate point to a device aimed at on-the-go gaming. This could potentially be a rival to products like the Lenovo Legion Y700 or RedMagic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro, both of which target similar use cases. OnePlus is fast establishing itself as one of the leading players to watch in the tablet market. The company's recently launched OnePlus Pad 3 earned high praise in our recent review, offering elite performance, a vibrant 144Hz display, and battery life to match. But that slate features a large 13.2-inch screen and is positioned more as a productivity and entertainment workhorse. A smaller, faster tablet would help round out the lineup with a more dedicated gaming focus. OnePlus is already set to unveil five devices at its Summer Launch event on July 8, including a budget-friendly Pad Lite. However, this rumored gaming tablet is not among them and is said to still be in testing, so we'll keep an eye out for more details later in the year. Got a tip? Talk to us!
