Tennis star Elina Svitolina exposes 'shameful' bettors who sent her death threats after loss to Naomi Osaka
Tennis star Elina Svitolina has blasted the shameful 'bettors' who have sent her unsavory messages through social media, including death threats, in recent days. Svitolina's quarterfinal loss to Naomi Osaka at the National Bank Open in Toronto was the impetus for lines being crossed the the Ukrainian dynamo. Svitolina posted separate messages to her Instagram story to expose the kinds of direct comments she views as inappropriate. 'To all the bettors: I'm a mom before I'm an athlete,' Svitolina wrote with the screenshots. 'The way you talk to women – to mothers – is SHAMEFUL. If your moms saw your messages, they'd be disgusted.' Svitolina, 30, is married to fellow professional tennis player Gael Monflis, with the couple having a daughter born in 2022 together. Svitolina's posting of direct messages comes at a time when more athletes are being encouraged to speak out against the behavior. Svitolina posted messages to her Instagram story to expose the kinds of direct comments Svitolina has over 1.8million followers that she shared her message with, with other stories also touching on the fact that there were messages she did not share. In total, Svitolina detailed eight Instagram stories filled with hateful messages, all from her losing one tennis match. All of Svitolina's social media personality was not calling out her haters, as she showed support to those that defended her after she went public with the images. 'Thank you so much for all your love,' Svitolina said. 'It means the world to me!' Svitolina is one of the most accomplished tennis players never to appear in a Grand Slam final. She has made it to the semifinals of the US Open and Wimbledon and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and French Open a combined eight times.

Tennis Star Elena Rybakina Receives Disturbing Messages After Upset Loss
Tennis Star Elena Rybakina Receives Disturbing Messages After Upset Loss originally appeared on The Spun. As if blowing a match at the National Bank Open wasn't bad enough, Elena Rybakina has received countless disturbing messages on social media. During Wednesday night's semifinal, Rybakina was in command of the deciding set against 18-year-old Victoria Mboko. However, it all fell apart for the former Wimbledon champion when she was serving for the match. She eventually dropped a third set tiebreak to the Canadian teenager. Immediately after Rybakina's match against Mboko went final, tennis fans went on Instagram to leave nasty comments on her most recent post. "The way you melt down during matches, and the ridiculous unforced errors you make most be studied," one fan commented. "Get your head fixed, this is not normal," a second fan said. "Find a job and stop with tennis, thanks," an Instagram user wrote. "You're a disgrace to the tennis world," another user said. "Quit playing for real," another fan said. "Can't handle the pressure." Unfortunately, this has been a recent trend in tennis. Katie Boulter dealt with similar messages after the French Open. "It becomes more apparent every single time you go on your phone," Boulter told the BBC. "I think it just kind of shows how vulnerable we are, you really don't know if this person is on site, if they're nearby or if they know where you live or anything like that. As far as death threats, it's just not something you want to be reading straight after an emotional loss. A lot of the time you get it after you win as well." Jessica Pegula also receivede death threats earlier this season. "These betters are insane and delusional and I don't allow dms and try to remember when to shut my comments off during tournament weeks but they always find a way to my timeline," Pegula said. "This stuff has never really bothered me much but does any other sport deal with this to our level? I'd love to know because it seems to be predominately tennis? It's so disturbing." We truly hope fans stop resorting to this behavior, but we're not so sure that'll happen. With sports gambling on the rise, stuff like this will continue to happen. Zia Yusuf returns to Reform UK just 48 hours after quitting
Zia Yusuf is returning to Reform UK as leader of the Elon Musk-inspired Doge unit, just 48 hours after resigning as chairman. Yusuf attributed his initial decision to quit to exhaustion and abuse following criticism of his remarks about new Runcorn MP Sarah Pochin. He said he was motivated to return after receiving supportive messages from Reform members and speaking with Nigel Farage. Yusuf clarified that his resignation was not due to strong views on the burqa, despite feeling blindsided by Pochin's question about banning it at PMQs. Farage said Yusuf had "snapped" after receiving racist abuse on social media, blaming the "very hard extreme right" for the abuse.
