Last chance to claim $1,400 stimulus check from 2021 draws near

(WJW) — Some taxpayers have only a week left to claim the $1,400 stimulus payment they're eligible for but didn't receive in 2021. The IRS announced at the end of 2024 that roughly 1 million taxpayers who did not receive their stimulus payments would see a check in the mail or the money automatically appear in their bank accounts. According to a press release from the IRS, about $2.4 billion was expected to be distributed in December, and in most cases, the payments would arrive by late January to the bank account listed on the taxpayer's 2023 tax return or to the address on record. The special payments were for those who filed a 2021 tax return but left the data field for the Recovery Rebate Credit blank, or filled out as $0 when they were eligible, as previously reported by Nexstar. However, those who did not file their 2021 tax returns did not receive their $1,400 checks automatically. Instead, these taxpayers have to file their returns before the April 15 filing deadline, according to the IRS. The payments vary, but the maximum that could be received is $1,400 per individual.

Are Social Security checks being delayed? What to know about the April payment schedule

Social Security continues to be a hot topic for President Donald Trump's administration, which is looking to cut costs, and recipients who are concerned about their payments. As part of the Trump administration's efforts to cut federal spending, Social Security is enduring job cuts, office closings, a revamped customer service strategy and scrutiny for fraud. Despite the talk, payments will go out as regularly scheduled in April. Social Security payments for most recipients come out Wednesdays throughout the month. So, if your birthdate falls between the first and 10th of the month, you are paid on the second Wednesday of the month; between the 11th and 20th, you're paid on the third Wednesday, and if you were born after the 20th of the month, you get paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month, according to the Social Security Administration's calendar. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming payment schedule for both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, plus a few quirks to watch out for. The Social Security Administration's yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online so that you can use the calendar for budgeting purposes. Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be sent out on the SSA's usual schedule: Wednesday, April 9: Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month. Wednesday, April 16: Birth dates between the 11th and the 20th of the month. Wednesday, April 23: Birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of the month. The economy: Retirement success involves more than money. Here are expert tips Supplemental Security Income checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025, according to the SSA calendar. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 (Check for April 2025) Thursday, May 1, 2025 (Check for May 2025) Friday, May 30, 2025 (Check for June 2025) Tuesday, July 1, 2025 (Check for July 2025) Friday, Aug. 1, 2025 (Check for August 2025) Friday, Aug. 30, 2025 (Check for September 2025) Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 (Check for October 2025) Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 (Check for November 2025) Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (Check for December 2025) Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (Check for January 2026) In May, SSI recipients will get two checks: the May SSI payment is scheduled to be issued May 1, according to the SSA calendar, and the June SSI payment on May 30 – payments are issued early because June 1 falls on a weekend. That means in June, as it was in March, SSI beneficiaries will not get a payment in that calendar month. The calendar quirk crops up again in August when SSI recipients will get two checks – the August payment Aug. 1 and the September payment Aug. 29 – but no payment in the calendar month of September. SSI recipients will also get two checks in October, but not one in the calendar month of November, according to the SSA calendar.
