Are Social Security checks being delayed? What to know about the April payment schedule
As part of the Trump administration's efforts to cut federal spending, Social Security is enduring job cuts, office closings, a revamped customer service strategy and scrutiny for fraud. Despite the talk, payments will go out as regularly scheduled in April.
Social Security payments for most recipients come out Wednesdays throughout the month. So, if your birthdate falls between the first and 10th of the month, you are paid on the second Wednesday of the month; between the 11th and 20th, you're paid on the third Wednesday, and if you were born after the 20th of the month, you get paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month, according to the Social Security Administration's calendar.
Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming payment schedule for both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, plus a few quirks to watch out for.
The Social Security Administration's yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online so that you can use the calendar for budgeting purposes.
Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be sent out on the SSA's usual schedule:
Wednesday, April 9: Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.
Wednesday, April 16: Birth dates between the 11th and the 20th of the month.
Wednesday, April 23: Birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of the month.

Supplemental Security Income checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025, according to the SSA calendar.

In May, SSI recipients will get two checks: the May SSI payment is scheduled to be issued May 1, according to the SSA calendar, and the June SSI payment on May 30 – payments are issued early because June 1 falls on a weekend.
That means in June, as it was in March, SSI beneficiaries will not get a payment in that calendar month.
The calendar quirk crops up again in August when SSI recipients will get two checks – the August payment Aug. 1 and the September payment Aug. 29 – but no payment in the calendar month of September.
SSI recipients will also get two checks in October, but not one in the calendar month of November, according to the SSA calendar.

US President Donald Trump on Monday said he had a "very interesting" meeting with the chief of US chip maker Intel, just days after calling for his resignation. Intel is one of Silicon Valley's most iconic companies but its fortunes have been dwarfed by Asian powerhouses TSMC and Samsung, which dominate the made-to-order semiconductor business. In a statement, Tan said there has been "a lot of misinformation circulating" about his past roles at Walden International and Cadence Design Systems. "I have always operated within the highest legal and ethical standards," Tan said. The Malaysia-born tech industry veteran took the helm at struggling Intel in March, announcing layoffs as White House tariffs and export restrictions muddied the market. Trump taps conservative economist EJ Antoni to serve as next labor statistics chief
President Trump on Monday announced he would nominate E.J. Antoni, a top economist at the conservative Heritage Foundation, to serve as the next commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after he pushed out the previous leader. 'Our Economy is booming, and E.J. will ensure that the Numbers released are HONEST and ACCURATE,' Trump posted on Truth Social. 'I know E.J. Antoni will do an incredible job in this new role. Congratulations E.J.!' Antoni is the chief economist at the Heritage Foundation and previously contributed to Project 2025's policy rubric, which outlined potential moves for the next GOP administration during the 2024 campaign. Antoni has in the past expressed skepticism about data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He recently appeared on conservative firebrand Steve Bannon's podcast to urge Trump to fire the previous commissioner, Erika McEntarfer. The position requires Senate confirmation, but Republicans hold a 53-47 GOP majority, giving Antoni a path to the job even if there are defections. Trump earlier this month ordered the firing of McEntarfer, a Biden White House appointee who was confirmed with a large bipartisan majority in the Senate in 2024. Trump nominates new Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner
President Donald Trump on Monday nominated E.J. Antoni to be the new commissioner for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the agency that collects and publishes data about jobs and inflation, after firing the previous commissioner, whom he accused without evidence of rigging jobs data. 'I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Highly Respected Economist, Dr. E.J. Antoni, as the next Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics,' Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. Antoni's nomination comes after Trump fired Dr. Erika McEntarfer earlier this month after the BLS' monthly jobs report showed disappointing numbers for July and sharply revised down employment growth in May and June. Trump accused McEntarfer, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden to the role of commissioner in 2023 and confirmed by a bipartisan Senate vote, of manipulating the data for 'political purposes.' 'Last weeks Job's Report was RIGGED,' Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social last week. 'Those big adjustments were made to cover up, and level out, the FAKE political numbers that were CONCOCTED in order to make a great Republican Success look less stellar!!!' McEntarfer's firing was met with backlash from many economists who argued that the move could damage the bureau's credibility. William Beach, a former Trump-nominated BLS commissioner, condemned the decision to fire McEntarfer. 'I don't think there's any grounds at all for this, for this firing, and it really hurts the statistical system,' Beach said on CNN earlier this month before Antoni was appointed. 'Suppose that they get a new commissioner … And they do a bad number. Well, everybody's going to think, 'well, it's not as bad as it probably really is,' because they're going to suspect political influence. So, this is damaging.' The BLS is a nonpartisan agency whose data underpins key decisions across the public and private sectors. Its reports influence everything from Social Security payments to corporate hiring and layoff plans, shaping how policymakers and businesses gauge the health of the US economy. Concerns over the bureau's data accuracy had surfaced even before McEntarfer's firing, with some economists warning that Trump administration budget cuts, layoffs and hiring freezes could undermine its reliability. Earlier this year, the BLS posted a notice saying it had suspended data collection entirely in three cities.
