Jaipur to adopt Surat's waste management model, says Mayor Somya Gurjar

Lauding the Surat civic body for achieving the top position in Super Swachh league, Jaipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Somya Gurjar said that the waste management project run in Surat will be replicated in Jaipur. Gurjar, who was visiting Surat, for one day, made these remarks on Thursday during an event. During her visit, Mayor Gurjar carried out a meeting with the Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agrawal, Mayor Daxesh Mavani and Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel among others. Congratulating the municipal commissioner and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for bagging the top spot in Super Swachh league for its outstanding work in sanitation, Gurjar said: 'The waste management project run by the SMC will be implemented in Jaipur city'. The Jaipur Mayor also took note of the different projects being carried out by the SMC. Accompanied by the SMC team, she visited the Integrated Command and Control Centre. She also sought details from the SMC officials regarding public involvement in different projects, said sources. She also visited a solid and liquid waste management site and took details about 'how the project is being run and how it benefits the city', said sources. The officials explained to her about 'using strategies such as collection, processing and recycling and focusing on the 5R (refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover) principle', according to sources. The final product after the plastic waste is processed is also used in road construction, pellet production, and several other industries, the officials told her. She also took details about the tertiary treatment plant run by SMC, wherein the sewage water after being treated in the plant is sold to the industries, and a good revenue is generated, which helps civic organisations to use the amount in other development projects, an official said. Later in the evening, she visited the BJP office, Kamalam, in Surat city, where she met Surat city BJP president Paresh Patel and other leaders. Mayor Gurjar also visited Nanduba English Academy school in Althan. The event was inaugurated by Surat city Mayor Daxesh Mavani. Mavani said, 'Jaipur mayor Dr Somya Gurjar liked all our projects and especially the plastic waste management project. She has shared her interest in implementing such a project in Jaipur city'. 'A team from Jaipur might arrive in Surat in the coming days to take more details about the project. We also discussed with her the steps we take to keep the city clean,' he said. 'She also appreciated the quality of drinking water in Surat city. She also talked about a tie-up between SMC and Jaipur Municipal Corporation in exchange for technology. She has invited us to visit Jaipur,' added Mavani.

1 student to be chosen as yoga ambassador from each school

Jaipur: To promote practising yoga in schools, the education department will identify one student from each school who perform the best on International Yoga Day. These students will be made Yoga ambassadors in their schools to further encourage other students and teachers to practise yoga throughout the year. Officials said that along with school staff, the ambassadors will encourage locals in villages to incorporate yoga into their lives. "The selected students will be given special training to learn yoga and become trainers. A child can learn fast and encourage more students to practise a healthy lifestyle, which will not only improve the health of students but also increase their concentration and grasping power," said a senior official from the education department. As part of yoga camps being organised across the city, JMC Greater mayor Somya Gurjar, along with sanitation workers, performed yoga at her residence Friday. The sanitation workers took a pledge to practise yoga for 15 minutes daily. At Hawa Mahal, traders and entrepreneurs also performed yoga Friday morning, despite rain showers. During the yoga session by traders along with the JMC-G mayor, who has been made yoga ambassador by the state govt, a message to include the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle—in daily lifestyle was given to the public. "Yoga is synonymous with discipline and an integral part of our ideology and culture, everyone should join the program on Yoga Day and add it to their daily routine," said Gurjar. On International Yoga Day Saturday, yoga programs will be organised at 13 places across Jaipur, including Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Galta Ji Temple, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Amer Fort, Govind Dev Ji Temple, Jaigarh, City Palace, Albert Hall, Central Park, Birla Mandir, Patrika Gate, and City Park.

Yoga, nature & yajna blend in JMC-Greater's wellness push

Jaipur: A fresh wellness initiative began in Jaipur Sunday, aiming to reconnect residents with yoga and nature. The drive was launched at Biodiversity Park in Jhotwara, where Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater mayor Somya Gurjar joined the public in a yoga session and participated in a tree plantation activity. This year, the camps are uniquely designed to align with the 11th International Yoga Day 's theme: "Yoga for One Earth, One Health". According to Gurjar, each yoga session will include continuous yajna and promote environmental awareness. Participants are also being gifted saplings as part of the campaign's green mission. Gurjar said, "We want yoga to reach every courtyard and greenery to flourish in every home. This combined effort is a step towards holistic wellbeing." The sessions are led by experienced yoga instructors, including Yogacharya Kul Bhushan Bairathi, Yogacharya Preeti, Satpal Ji, and Yogi Manish, who guide participants through various asanas and breathing exercises. The initiative not only encourages physical and mental wellness but also aims to foster a deeper connection with nature. By integrating yajna and plant distribution, the programme reflects a thoughtful blend of ancient practice and modern ecological responsibility. The next yoga camp will take place on June 11 at Smriti Park, Vidhyadhar Nagar.
