Coronation Street star welcomes baby boy and reveals name
Former Coronation Street star Sonia Ibrahim has given birth. The actress portrayed the role of Mel Maguire in the ITV soap from December 2016-October 2017. The character worked as an assistant at a tanning shop that Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) was running. Mel featured in the storyline that saw Nathan groom Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon). Last year, Sonia joined the cast of Channel 4's Hollyoaks. She portrays Kat Omari in the show, a woman who was living in a safe house alongside her son Jacob. Sonia is already mum to a little girl. She shares her with husband Arron Machin, and announced the pregnancy news back in August 2020. At the time, she said: 'I am absolutely over the moon and feel unbelievably blessed to announce that myself and my amazing husband are expecting a beautiful little baby GIRL. 'Nothing in this world can top the feeling and excitement of knowing that I am going to be a mama, and I can promise one thing, above anything else, that I am going to love, adore, and cherish my little princess more than anything in this world.' A couple of days ago, Sonia took to her Instagram to reveal to followers that she has given birth to a baby boy. The black and white picture sees Sonia cradling the little tot, called Carter, with mum and son's noses touching to really add to the cuteness. Coronation Street actress announces birth of second child and reveals sweet baby name
Coronation Street actress Sonia Ibrahim has announced the birth of her second child and has revealed their adorable baby name one week after giving birth. The 36-year-old gave birth to a little boy and shared the news to her Instagram followers on Friday. Sonia and her husband, Arron Machin, named their little bundle of joy Carter Benjamin Machin. Sonia, known for her role as Mel Maguire in the beloved ITV soap, posted a snap of herself cradling the newborn in her hands whilst she posed nose to nose. Alongside the photo, the mother-of-two penned a sweet caption. Sonia and Arron welcomed their first born, Sienna, into the world three years ago. Last month Sonia had her baby shower which featured decor with an elegant grey and blue colour scheme, which was a potential hint to the baby's gender. Sonia stunned in a figure hugging cream dress and a pair of pointed gingham patterned shoes. Despite being heavily pregnant, the actress showed off a couple of dance moves and posted to Instagram.

The soap actress, 36, posted a photo of baby Carter Benjamin Machin, giving her followers a glimpse of her sweet bundle of joy. Sonia, best known for portraying her character Mel Maguire in Corrie, could be seen gazing at her new baby in the photo she shared. She wrote: 'Sunday 22nd June at 10:26pm my life became complete. My beautiful boy Carter Benjamin Machin arrived, 7lbs of pure perfection. You are loved more than you will ever know little man.' Fans and friends flocked to the comments to congratulate Sonia, who is also mum to three-year-old Sienna. Fellow Corrie star Lucy Fallon wrote: "Gorgeous, congratulations xxxxx." Sonia had her baby shower less than a month ago, where her friends and family joined her to celebrate the imminent arrival of her second child. At the time, Sonia wrote: "The most perfect afternoon spent with the most beautiful people showering my little Prince. Devoted soap fans will remember actress Sonia Ibrahim's role as villainous Mel Maguire in Corrie. She called the cobbles home between December 2016 and October 2017. Mel became embroiled in Bethany Platt's (played by Lucy Fallon) harrowing grooming narrative, helping villain Nathan Curtis (portrayed by Chris Harper). Mel's final storyline involved a tense kidnapping attempt on Bethany, aimed at preventing her court testimony against Nathan which, thankfully, ended with Bethany's release. Sonia has in the past expressed how proud she was to be part of the iconic soap. She told Lancs Live: "I was literally over the moon and I cried my eyes out when my agent told me [I was joining]! "It's such an amazing place to work and it's been an honour to be here. I was really excited to meet everybody, because I'm a fan of Coronation Street and I watch the show anyway." Since leaving the cobbles, Sonia took a part in BBC's Waterloo Road as Jamilah Omar. Most recently, she joined the Hollyoaks cast as the enigmatic Kat, linked to resident Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey). Her first appearance in the Channel 4 drama aired in November. Her first episode saw her join Ethaniel Davy, who stepped into Jacob's shoes.

"He groomed her from the start; in his eyes, he knew what she wanted from Mel. "He picked her because Mel doesn't have a family; she's a very vulnerable girl, and he knew what he could do to her, so in his eyes, he saw his victim straight away. After her exit, she said: "It's been an amazing time, it's been great to work here. "The opportunity I've had is amazing and it's just a massive family and everyone's so welcoming and it's so nice to work with such great people."
