Coronation Street star gives birth to second child and shares adorable name

Daily Mirror28-06-2025
Former Corrie star Sonia Ibrahim is best known for playing villainous Mel Maguire in the ITV soap, but she has since moved to Channel 4's Hollyoaks, where she plays the enigmatic Kat
Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star Sonia Ibrahim has welcomed her second baby, announcing his adorable name on Instagram. The soap actress, 36, posted a photo of baby Carter Benjamin Machin, giving her followers a glimpse of her sweet bundle of joy.
Sonia, best known for portraying her character Mel Maguire in Corrie, could be seen gazing at her new baby in the photo she shared. She wrote: 'Sunday 22nd June at 10:26pm my life became complete. My beautiful boy Carter Benjamin Machin arrived, 7lbs of pure perfection. You are loved more than you will ever know little man.'

Fans and friends flocked to the comments to congratulate Sonia, who is also mum to three-year-old Sienna. Fellow Corrie star Lucy Fallon wrote: "Gorgeous, congratulations xxxxx."

Mum-fluencer Lucy Elizabeth Adamson replied: "Stop it," followed by a series of crying emojis. Ashely Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren on Hollyoaks, added: "Congratulations to you and your beautiful family! So happy for you all! Massive love."
Actress Sonia announced she was growing her family in February, when she shared an adorable clip showing her eldest, Sienna with her little hands over the scan photo. Another clip in her reel showed her posing in a mirror, her growing bump on show.
Proud mum Sonia wrote: "All of my dreams have come true, half way there and we can't wait to meet you our beautiful baby boy." Her post was met with hundreds of comments from well-wishers.
Sonia had her baby shower less than a month ago, where her friends and family joined her to celebrate the imminent arrival of her second child. She posted a reel on Instagram from the event, where she could be seen doing a happy dance, posing with members of her family and showing off her baby-blue themed decor.
At the time, Sonia wrote: "The most perfect afternoon spent with the most beautiful people showering my little Prince. Thank you so much to the kindest, most thoughtful beautiful besties I could wish for organising my baby shower we love you."

Devoted soap fans will remember actress Sonia Ibrahim's role as villainous Mel Maguire in Corrie. She called the cobbles home between December 2016 and October 2017.
Mel became embroiled in Bethany Platt's (played by Lucy Fallon) harrowing grooming narrative, helping villain Nathan Curtis (portrayed by Chris Harper). Mel's final storyline involved a tense kidnapping attempt on Bethany, aimed at preventing her court testimony against Nathan which, thankfully, ended with Bethany's release.

Sonia has in the past expressed how proud she was to be part of the iconic soap. She told Lancs Live: "I was literally over the moon and I cried my eyes out when my agent told me [I was joining]!
"It's such an amazing place to work and it's been an honour to be here. I was really excited to meet everybody, because I'm a fan of Coronation Street and I watch the show anyway."
Since leaving the cobbles, Sonia took a part in BBC's Waterloo Road as Jamilah Omar. Most recently, she joined the Hollyoaks cast as the enigmatic Kat, linked to resident Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey).
Her first appearance in the Channel 4 drama aired in November. Her first episode saw her join Ethaniel Davy, who stepped into Jacob's shoes.

Kelly Clarkson fans livid as she axes opening Vegas show 90 minutes before start

Fans of Kelly Clarkson have been left devastated – and some furious – after she announced the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency at the last minute. The American Idol champion, 43, announced in February that she would be taking up a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, following in the footsteps of Celine Dion, Adele, Madonna, and Sir Elton John. However, just 90 minutes before she was due to take to the stage, she shared that the shows would not be going ahead yet. She began in a statement to her Instagram followers: 'We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. 'I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars. 'The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y'all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.' Kelly described the show itself as 'truly incredible,' praising her musicians and singers as 'outstanding'. 'I want us all to start out strong,' she stated. Kelly vowed to kick off her residency in a week, concluding: 'I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y'all what we've been working on.' While the pop star's message was undeniably heartfelt, it didn't stop fans with tickets from raging in the comments. Many confessed to spending thousands on travel expenses, flying to Vegas from all over the world to see their favourite star live. 'I'm a huge fan and flew here from Boston spending thousands on tickets and hotels to see your show tomorrow for my 40th birthday. I really want you to be healthy but cancelling this late has such a huge financial impact on your loyal fans 😭', commented @adifferentperspective. 'I genuinely believe artists should have to reimburse fans that travel for their shows and then cancel at the last minute. I do not blame her for canceling as I'm sure it was necessary. But there has to be some repercussion. Something for the people that spent thousands to get there. There has to be some kind of insurance', ranted @adree805. 'We spent a LOT of money for you to cancel literally 30 minutes before show time. A lot of us cannot afford to travel to Las Vegas, take off work and pay for hotels. Ticketmaster is NOT refunding either because you POSTPONED instead of CANCELLING. Please have your Team rethink this. Not good', blasted @amaliaschwerdtmann. @desidream52 also accused Kelly of 'disrespecting [her] fans', while @themrkingalex said they had already been 'waiting in line all day' with excitement. While everyone wished her well, comments defending Kelly were certainly in the minority. 'when Adele cancelled, we still had an amazing time. Respect for taking care of yourself', wrote @kelly.s27. The Hello hitmaker famously cancelled her own Las Vegas residency in January 2022, a mere 24 hours before it was due to begin, citing a Covid-19 outbreak among production staff for delays. Later in the year, she began performing her Weekends With Adele shows every Friday and Saturday to sold-out, star-studded crowds. When announcing her own residency earlier in the year, Because of You hitmaker Kelly confirmed that it would consist of 18 varying shows through July and August until returning in mid-November. The Grammy-winning star said at the time: 'I'm so excited to be back in Vegas! 'We're bringing the studio to the stage this time with Studio Sessions! See y'all there!' She then gave fans a teaser of what to expect, spilling during an interview with Today in May: 'This is totally different for us, how we're doing it. 'It's called Studio Sessions, and the reason for that is I feel like you don't get live anymore—maybe back in the 70s—but you really don't get live what you really feel in the studios.' She added: 'You fill out the whole stage, like, I've hired more musicians, more singers are coming out, we're literally filling out everything. 'There's no tracks at all of any instruments or anything. It's all live. It just feels amazing in the studio, so we wanted to bring that into the setting for everybody, so it's going to be really fun.' More Trending However, Kelly has had trouble selling tickets for the gigs, as just a matter of weeks ago, 70% of tickets for what was due to be her opening night on July 4 were still available. Kelly, who has now sold over 25million records worldwide, rose to fame in 2002 when she won American Idol. There's no doubt that she's the talent show's most successful contestant, her powerhouse vocals earning her multiple accolades, chart-topping singles, and the title of one of history's greatest singers from the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard. Since 2019, she has hosted her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, on which she also covers other people's songs in the viral Kellyoke segment. The programme has scooped a whopping 22 Daytime Emmy Awards. Got a story? Virgin River's Brady star shares very romantic update ahead of season 7

Netflix's Virgin River star Ben Hollingsworth, who plays Daniel Brady on the show, has sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a romantic post dedicated to his wife Nila Myers *Warning - This article contains spoilers for Virgin River season 6.* Netflix's Virgin River heartthrob Ben Hollingsworth has penned a swoon-worthy birthday message to his wife Nila Myers, melting fans' hearts across social media. ‌ The actor, known for his role as Daniel Brady in the hit romantic series, took to Instagram with a series of snaps featuring his beloved wife and their adorable children Hemingway, Gatsby, and Juniper. ‌ In front of his 367,000 followers, he gushed: "Happy Birthday @nilababy - I still look at you and wonder how'd I get so lucky." With a heart emoji, he added: "You're still the one I fantasize about, still the one I dream of." "You still turn my head and own my heart. Now and always. #tillwereoldandgrey #HappyBday." (sic) Get Netflix free with Sky from £15 Sky Get the deal here Product Description Fans were quick to comment on the heartfelt post, with one saying: "Beautiful couple. May God continue to bless you and your family." ‌ Another shared: "What a beautiful family you have," accompanied by heart emojis, while another remarked: "Happy birthday to a lucky woman. Such a lovely family." "Happy Birthday lucky lady! ! ! Gorgeous couple!" exclaimed another fan, and one more chimed in with: "Omg what a tribute!" Virgin River's sixth season revolved around the much-anticipated nuptials of Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), and with season 7 filming now complete, viewers are on tenterhooks for an official release date announcement. ‌ However, Netflix's hit series also featured fan favourite Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) entangled in a love triangle with Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) and Brady by the season's close, reports the Mirror US. Brie may have ended her relationship with Brady in season 5, yet their chemistry lingered, culminating in an impulsive tryst on the pool table at Jack's Bar. ‌ Ben once remarked to USA TODAY: "I always talk about Brady and Brie like magnets. They're constantly being drawn to each other, and at some point, if you get them close enough, it's undeniable." In contrast, Zibby highlighted the priority for her character Brie to find personal fulfilment before focusing on finding the right romantic match, reflecting to Us Weekly: "Brie needs to get really real with herself. I think that she has an old identity that she's still fixed to." "The one that was really good at everything, she was amazing at her job. Nothing could get past her. ‌ "And then that huge betrayal with her sexual assault with her ex totally turned her sense of self upside down. I think she's still trying to cling to an old sense of herself. "So until she can start to really get right with who she is now, and soften, it won't be clear to any of us." Will Brie and Brady end up together? Will Brie and Mike call it quits? We'll just have to wait and see how season 7 plays out.

'Charlize Theron and Kris Jenner are dating younger men for one clear reason'

From Charlize Theron to Kris Jenner, an expert explains why older women in Hollywood are dating younger men and why the controversial trend might becoming more popular Age gap relationships in Hollywood are nothing new – but Charlize Theron still managed to cause a social media furore after admitting to sleeping with a younger man on a recent Call Her Daddy podcast. Now it seems she's beckoning a new era: of cougar romances. In a candid discussion about her dating life with host Alex Cooper, the 49-year-old actress said that she's only had a few one-night stands in her life. However, she added: "But I did just recently f**k a 26-year-old, and it was really f**king amazing." ‌ She then asked herself: "Oh, f**k, I should have done this in my 20s." Then jokingly added: "Who has f**king time for dates and shaving and waxing and makeup? I've got two children that have to go to school the next [day]." ‌ Her story was quick to provoke backlash on X. 'Uhh, why is she talking about this openly?' a commenter asked. 'I could not feel attraction to a man that could be the age of my son. Yucky,' another wrote. However, there were others who were far more supportive. 'And what is the problem? They both are adults, right? Let people live their lives as they want,' one user said. Another pointed out the double standard in attitude towards men and women: 'And? If [Leonardo] DiCaprio or Elon [Musk] can, why can't she?' She's far from the only woman in Hollywood to see the appeal in younger men. Massive stars like Tracee Ellis Woods, Madonna and even the world 's most famous momager Kris Jenner have publicly dated younger men. Kris Jenner, 69, first met 44-year-old Corey Gamble at a party in 2014 and eventually made their relationship Instagram-official the following year. In a 2024 confessional from The Kardashians, she admitted that she initially had her doubts about the 25-year age gap. ‌ "I used to say to Corey all the time when I first started dating him, like why do you want to date somebody who is older than you? I didn't get the age gap, and then he taught me that age is just a number," Kris said. "It's a f**king big number, but it's a number!" Meanwhile, Madonna has had a history of dating younger men – most recently 28-year-old Akeem Morris. In a 2017 interview with Harper's Bazaar, the 66-year-old said: "I have lovers who are three decades younger than me. This makes people very uncomfortable. I feel like everything I do makes people feel really uncomfortable." ‌ Black-ish star Tracee Ellis-Woods also recently came out to express her preference for dating younger men. On the IMO podcast, hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson, the 52-year-old said: 'A lot of men my age are steeped in toxic masculinity and have been raised in a culture where there is a particular way that a relationship looks." "There is a difference. There is an openness that occurs with a younger man around, whether it's gender fluidity or not even having an issue with homosexuality — something as basic as that," she added. So, are we seeing a rise in 'cougar' relationships? Hope Flynn, relationship expert and founder of So what?, says this sentiment that younger men are more open is fairly common. She explained: 'The appeal of dating younger men often lies in their energy, enthusiasm and fresh perspectives on life. They may bring a sense of adventure, spontaneity and openness to new experiences.' ‌ For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. She continues: 'This dynamic can really boost a woman's confidence and create a rejuvenating and playful connection. 'Age-gap relationships' are no longer just limited to older men and younger women, as we are seeing a rise in relationships that don't follow traditional 'age rules'.' ‌ Part of the trend is also coming from women's increased autonomy. 'Over the years women have become more and more independent, we are more educated than ever, we can pay our own bills and all of these things contribute to allowing older women to pursue relationships with younger guys as they no longer have to be dependent on a man.' The shift is also coming from men too. Hope adds: 'Younger guys are also increasingly attracted to the independence and maturity that older women have to offer. This can make for a good relationship as younger men have less pressure to be the sole provider within a relationship like they used to years ago.'
