Tom Rhys Harries signs on to DC's horror flick Clayface

Tom Rhys Harries is to star in Clayface. The 32-year-old actor has beat off competition from the likes of Sinners star Jack O'Connell, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Tom Blyth and 1917's George MacKay for the leading role in DC's upcoming horror movie. Speak No Evil director James Watkins has signed on to helm the project, which is slated to shoot at Warner Bros. Leavesden studio in the UK later this year as it marches towards its September 2026 release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayface will be a 'stripped down movie', with a budget of approximately $40 million. The flick will reportedly follow a B-movie actor who becomes a walking mound of clay after injecting himself with a mystery substance in an attempt to stay relevant. Watkins will be working from a script written by Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan, while The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves will produce alongside Lynn Harris, and DC co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. DC's next movie will be Gunn's Superman, which is set to land in cinemas on 8 July 2025, and will usher in a new cinematic era for the studio. Superman - which stars David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan and Nathan Fillion - will follow a young Clark Kent grapple with his dual identity as he rises to become Earth's protector against a powerful alien threat. As humanity questions its need for a saviour, Superman must prove that hope is his greatest power. Gunn previously teased Corenswet's Man of Steel would 'blow people away' in Superman. During an appearance on a panel at New York Comic Con in October, the Guardians of the Galaxy director said: 'We're deep in the process of editing. David Corenswet is going to f****** blow people away. He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. 'I don't think anyone really understands the depth of this guy's talent dramatically, comedically. He's the best physical action star I've probably ever worked with.' Corenswet's co-star Brosnahan - who will play Superman's love interest Lois Lane - also teased the blockbuster would 'stay true to the comics'. Speaking to Deadline, she said: 'There's a lot of challenges for everybody in all different pockets of the worlds right now. 'And for a lot of the complaints that people have sometimes about superhero movies, at their core, they're about the goodness of people and how good we can be to each other, how the pursuit of truth and justice really are the American way, and that courage and hope can carry us through. 'And so, I feel like this movie really encapsulates all of that. It's a hopeful superhero movie, which I feel like is so true to the comics. So, I'm excited for audiences to see it and hopefully have some fun and enjoy the ride with us.'

Viewers have taken to TV and film aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to sing Speak No Evil's praises since its release. One critic labelled it as a 'genuinely unsettling film', with another writing: 'A rare psychological horror film that quietly chills to the bone without too much gore or creep chords, while cleverly relying on the implied and imagination to effectively do the heavy lifting.' A third commented: 'This is an absolutely fantastic thriller. ‌ 'It will keep you on the edge of your seat and the tension in the third act grabs you and you can barely breath at times.' While someone else agreed: 'When the plot of Speak No Evil kicks into high gear, and the secret behind this overly friendly country couple is revealed, the thrills and horror go into overdrive.' ‌ Speaking about what attracted him to star in Speak No Evil and his character Paddy's marriage to Ciara (Franciosi), McAvoy told Comic Book Resources: 'They're arguably very bad people, but they've got a f****** great relationship, even though it's violent and there's been grooming going on in their relationship and all that, they're capable of great happiness. 'Maybe you could argue she isn't, it's not fair to say whether she's happy or not because she's been so conditioned, but he is and he is capable of joy. 'And that was like, 'Whoa, that's messed up.' 'To play such a malevolent person who's capable of being happy was like, 'Wow, that's a really interesting, messed up person to play.''

Jazz icon Herbie Hancock will play Orpheum Theatre

Jazz icon Herbie Hancock is returning to the Twin Cities. The 84-year-old pianist, composer, and bandleader will alight at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis Oct. 22. Hancock is one of the most influential jazz musicians alive today, with a career that has spanned more than six decades. He's been a singular voice throughout that career, which includes playing on revered albums like Hank Mobley's The Turnaround! in 1965 and Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil in 1966, releasing records like 1965's Maiden Voyage and 1973's Head Hunters that shook the jazz world, and winning more than a dozen Grammys, including Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2008 for River: The Joni Letters. Though, his list of accomplishments is better suited to a book-length list of accolades. (We've already left out his Oscar, his work with the Miles Davis Quintet, his score for Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow-Up...) Tickets to see the jazz legend go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 4.

Clayface Budget Revealed for Mike Flanagan & James Watkins' DCU Movie

The estimated budget for the DCU movie has been revealed. Clayface arrives in United States theaters in September 2026. The DCU movie is produced by James Gunn and written by Mike Flanagan. It was recently announced that Speak No Evil's James Watkins had been tapped to direct the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the DCU Clayface movie will have a budget of $40 million. This is on the lower side of most comic book movies. Captain America: Brave New World, for example, has an estimated budget of around $180 million, while the exact budget for Gunn's Superman movie is not known. The 2019 Joker movie even had a slightly higher budget, as that was estimated to cost around the $55 million range. '[Clayface] is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay,' The Hollywood Reporter's article says regarding the film's plot. No casting for the Clayface movie has been released at this time. It's worth noting that Alan Tudyk voices Clayface in the DCU Creature Commandos series and that Gunn previously said that actors who voice major animated characters in DCU projects will also play them in live-action. Tudyk also voices Clayface in the animated Harley Quinn show, which is not set within the DCU. Gunn has also said that Tudyk will play a live-action character in the DCU; however, Tudyk voices multiple characters, so it is possible that he could have instead been referring to a live-action Doctor Phosphorus. Along with Gunn, the Clayface movie is produced by Peter Safran, The Batman's Matt Reeves, and Lynn Harris. Clayface will be released in United States theaters on September 11, 2026.
