Photo courtesy of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China Hong Kong, China, bagged a second gold medal at this year's World Games in Chengdu on Saturday, with the triumph going to wushu athlete Anthony Yeung. The 28-year-old finished top of the podium in the men's Taijiquan-Taijijian combined event with a total score of 19.526. Japan's Tomohiro Araya placed second, while Tay Yu Xuan from Singapore took the bronze. Yeung last competed at the World Games 2022 in the United States, when he brought home a bronze medal in the same event. Wong Po-kee, the delegation's chef de mission and honorary deputy secretary general of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, said Yeung delivered a strong and determined performance in this year's World Games. "Whether wielding the sword or executing bare-handed forms, he demonstrated ease and confidence, delivering his moves with a harmonious blend of softness and strength, powered by profound internal energy," Wong said. "Through his consistent and outstanding performance, he got high scores in both rounds and successfully clinched the gold medal, promoting the national essence. "His achievement is truly commendable and worthy of celebration." Yeung's achievement came after Grace Lau claimed gold in women's karate on Friday night.

With a score of 45.3, Lau defeated Japan's Maho Ono's 43.6, ranked second in the world, in the women's individual kata final on Friday. The 33-year-old took home a bronze at the World Games 2022 and was a bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Wong Po-kee, the delegation's Chef de Mission and honorary deputy secretary general of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, said Lau returned to this year's Games in 'peak form' and advanced to the final with her exceptional skills. 'In the gold medal match, Grace continued to perform well. With her powerful and well-controlled moves, she out-competed her rival,' Wong said. 'This gold medal marks Hong Kong's first at the Games, a proud achievement that not only celebrates Grace's success, but also inspires fellow athletes as they prepare to compete.' More than 20 athletes from the SAR will compete in seven sports: air sports, billiards, karate, orienteering, squash, water skiing, and wushu. The World Games kicked off on Thursday and will run until August 17, featuring more than 200 medal events across 34 disciplines.

More than 20 athletes from the SAR will be competing in seven disciplines: air sports, billiards, karate, orienteering, squash, water skiing and wushu. In a statement, Wong Po-kee, the delegation's Chef de Mission and honorary deputy secretary general of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, said TWG 2025 represent the pinnacle of international competition for sports not included in the Olympic programme. "Enjoying semi-home field advantage, our athletes are fully prepared and look forward to performing at their best against top athletes from around the world," Wong said. "I hope they can achieve outstanding results while gaining valuable experience and enjoying competing in Sichuan, the Land of Abundance. "I call on the public to take this opportunity to learn more about the diverse sports featured in TWG 2025 and show their support for our athletes." TWG 2025 will run from August 7 to 17, featuring more than 200 medal events across 34 disciplines.

Asian Winter Games: Hong Kong ice hockey players attacked by Turkmenistan rivals
Hong Kong officials have demanded action after players from the Turkmenistan team assaulted the Hong Kong men's ice hockey team members. The shocking attack followed Hong Kong's 5-1 win over Turkmenistan on Sunday at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. In a statement, the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), said it 'strongly condemned' the incident at the end of the Group C clash at Harbin Ice Hockey Arena. The game was a bad-tempered affair. Teams served out an hour's worth of penalties between them for offences including elbowing, tripping, slashing and unsportsmanlike conduct, which spilled over at the postgame handshakes.
