Grace Lau bags first gold for the SAR at World Games

Hong Kong, China won its first medal of the World Games in Chengdu as World No. 1 Grace Lau took gold in women's karate.
With a score of 45.3, Lau defeated Japan's Maho Ono's 43.6, ranked second in the world, in the women's individual kata final on Friday.
The 33-year-old took home a bronze at the World Games 2022 and was a bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Wong Po-kee, the delegation's Chef de Mission and honorary deputy secretary general of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, said Lau returned to this year's Games in 'peak form' and advanced to the final with her exceptional skills.
'In the gold medal match, Grace continued to perform well. With her powerful and well-controlled moves, she out-competed her rival,' Wong said.
'This gold medal marks Hong Kong's first at the Games, a proud achievement that not only celebrates Grace's success, but also inspires fellow athletes as they prepare to compete.'
More than 20 athletes from the SAR will compete in seven sports: air sports, billiards, karate, orienteering, squash, water skiing, and wushu.
The World Games kicked off on Thursday and will run until August 17, featuring more than 200 medal events across 34 disciplines.

'I don't know what to say; I am quite shocked about the whole situation,' he told local media. One RedNote account appearing to be Sinkins has been created on the platform, posting images of the 55-year-old and thanking Chinese fans for their support.

World Games: wakesurfer Harry Cheng wins Hong Kong's fourth medal in Chengdu
Hong Kong secured its fourth World Games medal in Chengdu on Sunday, as Harry Cheng Chun-hin took bronze in the men's wake surf skim event. Jett Lambert of the United States took gold, scoring 85 points from the judges, while China's Zhuang Tiancai was second with 65.67. Cheng scored 59 points, just two more than fourth-place Thai athlete Bm Jomboon, to claim bronze. This is the fourth medal for the SAR after the team clinched three golds since the tournament kicked off on August 7. Cheng gained a score of 59, putting him in third place among six contestants in the finals. The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee congratulated Cheng and the waterski team for their achievements in the sport, that's making its debut at the World Games. "Cheng demonstrated exceptional balance and coordination in the finals, performing an impressive array of tricks with swift and agile moves," said Chef de Mission Wong Po-kee. "Cheng claiming a medal in his debut on this world stage speaks volumes about Hong Kong's growing prowess in water sports," Wong added.
