Ponguleti says Revenue Department at the ‘People's Doorstep' from Tuesday

Revenue officials must approach land disputes with empathy and fairness, and the problems should be resolved proactively and at no cost, Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said as the next phase of the Revenue Sadassu (Revenue Meetings) take off on Tuesday (June 03) and continue till June 30 across all mandals. At a high-level review meeting held on Monday (June 02), the Minister said the government was determined to correct the systemic failures and mismanagement during the previous administration, which led to widespread complications in land administration. The revenue teams led by Tahsildars will now travel to each revenue village, accepting applications and resolving issues on-site with the motto 'Revenue Department at the People's Doorstep,' he said. The Minister said the introduction of the Bhu Bharati Act from April 14 this year was aimed at providing a permanent solution to land disputes by decentralizing and democratizing the land administration process. Initially implemented in four mandals across four districts on an experimental basis, the programme was expanded to 28 mandals from May 5. Encouraged by the positive response, the government is now rolling out the programme across all mandals. Mr. Srinivasa Reddy said the pilot initiatives were a huge success. Over 13,000 applications were received in 72 revenue villages during the first phase, and 42,000 applications were submitted across 421 villages in the second phase. About 60% of land issues were resolved so far, with most concerning title clarifications. The Minister said appointment of 10,954 village administrative officers saw encouraging response with 3,550 candidates already making it to the final merit list following an examination on May 25. He said a re-survey of 413 villages without existing maps will be conducted in phases, and 6,000 new surveyors are expected to be appointed within two months. Digitisation of survey maps by the Telangana Remote Sensing Applications Center (TGRAC) was currently being piloted in three mandals.

Indiramma housing scheme delayed in Sircilla: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: State Housing and Information and Public Relations Minister P Srinivasa Reddy said that the implementation of the Indiramma housing scheme was delayed in Sircilla Assembly Constituency as the BRS leader and local MLA KT Rama Rao has not submitted a list of beneficiaries to the officials. The government has brought a new norm giving opposition MLAs to select 40 per cent of the beneficiaries of Indiramma houses and forward the list to the Housing department. The Minister said that KTR defied the orders and as a result, the official process in the selection of the beneficiaries did not take place. After coming to know, the local authorities have been asked to select the names and finalise them immediately. Stating that 2.10 lakh beneficiaries have been identified across the State till the date, Srinivasa Reddy also took strong exception to the KTR's repeated comments against him saying that ED raided his houses with currency counting machines. He said that no raid was conducted by the central agency in his house. Srinivasa Reddy said that all the beneficiaries list will be finalised by June 10. Under the pilot project, he said that 42,000 houses were sanctioned and the construction of 20,000 houses was already started. 100 houses are ready for house warming this month. In the ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Authority) limits, the government sanctioned 9,200 houses for Chenchu tribes. Four storey buildings will be constructed in Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda municipal corporations in view of lack of availability of government land to build independent houses for the beneficiaries.

Telangana government accepts Governor's recommendation on houses for vulnerable tribals

HYDERABAD: The state government will be sanctioning houses to people belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PTVG) across the state in saturation mode under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. The government will also be transforming Hyderabad slums by building three-storey housing complexes. According to Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, the state government has identified 9,395 PTVG families in the Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) areas. It has also decided to allocate an additional 20 per cent of houses to eligible ST families. Speaking to TNIE, Srinivasa Reddy said that Governor Jishnu Dev Verma had recommended housing for PVTGs. The move is aimed at providing permanent housing to the PVTG community. 'As the Governor is the custodian of Sixth Schedule areas, we will respect and implement his recommendations,' he said. 'The PTVG families living in Utnoor, Bhadrachalam and Eturnagaram ITDAs would benefit from this initiative,' he added. Meanwhile, Srinivasa Reddy instructed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Housing Development Department MD VP Gautam and Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty to expedite the process of identifying suitable sites for building Indiramma houses in Hyderabad. 'We have studied the Mumbai model and realised that three-storey buildings are a successful model for providing housing for the poor. But the purpose is defeated when the number of floors exceeds three,' he said. The minister said that the slum dwellers will be eager to shift to the houses built for them if the government constructs permanent houses with all facilities. He pointed out that around 19,000 houses sanctioned during the previous BRS regime remained unoccupied to this day as the beneficiaries were not interested in moving into those houses. 'I don't want to make a similar mistake,' he added.

Heavy rains batter Bengaluru; yellow alert issued across Karnataka

Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon and evening, leading to widespread waterlogging, tree falls, and traffic congestion across the city. The downpour brought temporary relief from the heat, with temperatures dipping to 32 degrees Celsius — 1.3 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported 34.2 mm of rain in the city, with 41 mm recorded in the HAL Old Airport area and 33.5 mm in Bengaluru Urban. A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru and several other districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Udupi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Bidar, and Uttara Kannada, till Thursday. The IMD forecast also includes strong winds (30–50 kmph) and thundershowers. Several key areas, particularly in east Bengaluru, were severely affected. Roads in Whitefield, Marathahalli, Hebbal, and Banaswadi were inundated, resulting in major traffic jams during peak hours. Manyata Tech Park was among the worst-hit, with employees sharing visuals of flooded roads on social media. 'Another year, same story! Heavy rains = water logging at Manyata Tech Park. Roads flooded, commutes ruined, productivity hampered. How long will this go on?' a user posted on X. Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room received a high volume of complaints. The civic body's forest wing reported 36 trees uprooted and 121 branches down across the city. A large tree fell on a car in Yelachenahalli, but no injuries were reported. BBMP teams worked to clear debris and desilt roadside drains to ease water flow. Bengaluru Traffic Police assisted in managing congestion in affected areas. Monsoon in Karnataka Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast an early onset of the southwest monsoon in Karnataka. 'Normally, it takes four days for the monsoon to travel from Kerala to Karnataka. Hopefully, Karnataka will welcome the monsoon by May-end,' CS Patil, meteorologist, IMD Bengaluru was quoted as saying by The Times of India. IMD officials said the monsoon is expected to arrive over Kerala by May 27, with an error margin of 3–4 days. Based on current models, Karnataka may receive 20 per cent above-average rainfall this season. GS Srinivasa Reddy, former director of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, told ToI that the monsoon has already advanced into parts of the South Bay of Bengal, South Andaman Sea, and Nicobar Islands. 'Even if it weakens due to westerlies or other systems, it will be delayed by only 4–5 days and may enter Karnataka by June 1 or 2,' he said. According to the IMD, India is likely to receive 104 per cent of the average monsoon rainfall, with surplus rain expected in southern Karnataka and satisfactory rain in the northern parts.
