SJOBA half-marathon to be held on July 26

The St Johns Old Boys Association (SJOBA) will organise the SJOBA Half-Marathon this year on July 26 to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas apart from paying tribute for marathon legend Fauja Singh, who died at the age of 114 years in a road accident last week. The half-marathon (21km) will also see runners competing in 10 km, 5 km and 3 km categories. 'The marathon is being held on 26th July to commemorate Kargil Day under the powerful motto — Run for the Armed Forces, Run for Peace, Run for the Planet, and in memory of Fauja Singh, a legend in endurance running and an inspiration to all. Each participant will receive a finishing medal, goodie bag, and a healthy breakfast. Trophies will be awarded to winners in each category, with recognition for both male and female participants,' said Harpal Singh Malvai, president, SJOBA, while addressing the media at St John's High School, Sector 26. The event is expected to see the participation of more than 500 runners across various categories. The event will be flagged off at 5.00 am on July 26 from the school campus. The half-marathon will also see participation of nine wheel-chair runners apart from others specially abled runners too competing in various categories. 'More than 500 runners will be competing in the SJOBA half-marathon. The half marathon will provide runners the choice of running in 21 km, 10km, five km and three km categories. Nine wheel-chair runners will also compete in the marathon,' said Danish Singh Mangat, secretary, SJOBA.
