PAC to recall witnesses, former independent director over MAHB share sale

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will recall several witnesses, including a former independent director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), to provide further clarification on the company's share sale and privatisation issue. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the decision was made after reviewing transcripts from previous proceedings, which revealed that several questions remain unanswered. "To date, PAC has held 16 proceedings on the matter, and we will continue by calling in other relevant witnesses," she said in a statement today. Mas Ermieyati also clarified that recent statements made by PAC deputy chairman Teresa Kok and committee member Sim Tze Tzin were personal views and do not represent the official position of the committee. Yesterday, Kok and Sim were reported as saying the latest proceeding, which involved Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, had gone smoothly with full cooperation from the ministry. Sim was also quoted as saying that most PAC members were satisfied with the session and believed there were no governance issues requiring further investigation. However, Mas Ermieyati stressed that all findings, discussions and documents presented in PAC proceedings are subject to Standing Order 85 of the Dewan Rakyat and should not be disclosed to the media by any party. "PAC appreciates the cooperation of all witnesses who have been involved in the proceedings concerning the management of public airports, but no conclusions or recommendations have been finalised at this stage," she said. She added that a full report will be prepared once all proceedings are completed, before it is submitted to the government and tabled in the Dewan Rakyat. – BERNAMA
