PAC to recall witnesses, former independent director over MAHB share sale
PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the decision was made after reviewing transcripts from previous proceedings, which revealed that several questions remain unanswered.
"To date, PAC has held 16 proceedings on the matter, and we will continue by calling in other relevant witnesses," she said in a statement on Friday (July 11).
Mas Ermieyati also clarified that recent statements made by PAC deputy chairman Teresa Kok and committee member Sim Tze Tzin were personal views and do not represent the official position of the committee.
On Thursday, Kok and Sim were reported as saying the latest proceeding, which involved Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, had gone smoothly with full cooperation from the ministry.
Sim was also quoted as saying that most PAC members were satisfied with the session and believed there were no governance issues requiring further investigation.
However, Mas Ermieyati stressed that all findings, discussions and documents presented in PAC proceedings are subject to Standing Order 85 of the Dewan Rakyat and should not be disclosed to the media by any party.
"PAC appreciates the cooperation of all witnesses who have been involved in the proceedings concerning the management of public airports, but no conclusions or recommendations have been finalised at this stage," she said.
She added that a full report will be prepared once all proceedings are completed, before it is submitted to the government and tabled in the Dewan Rakyat. - Bernama

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said stakeholder engagement and discussions with relevant parties on amending Sosma are still ongoing. KUALA LUMPUR : A policy paper proposing amendments to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) will be presented to the Cabinet in August, says home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Winding up the debate on Suhakam's 2023 annual report in the Dewan Rakyat today, Saifuddin said among the key reforms being considered is Section 13 of the law, which bars bail for most offences. 'There are at least two issues we're focusing on, including Section 13, which has been raised by many MPs (throughout the debate). This concerns the issue of bailable, non-bailable, and unbailable offences,' he said. Saifuddin said the second issue involves the scope of offences listed under Sosma. 'There are currently 73 types of offences that can lead to a person being detained under Sosma. 'In our engagement sessions, we have so far identified 13 offences that will be removed from the list of offences on which Sosma can be applied,' he said, adding that these sessions are still ongoing. However, Saifuddin did not disclose which offences were being removed. Earlier, Hassan Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) urged Putrajaya to review Sosma, especially Section 13 of the Act, which imposes a blanket no-bail rule for most offences. In February, Saifuddin was reported to have said that the government was considering allowing bail for certain offences and shortening the 28-day detention period under Sosma. A special committee was formed to study the proposals. Sosma was enforced in 2012 by the Najib Razak administration after the Internal Security Act (ISA) was abolished the same year. Under Sosma, police officers may arrest and detain an individual, whom they believe is involved in security offences, without a warrant. In his winding-up speech, Saifuddin also said Putrajaya is open to reviewing the idea of setting up a special court to handle Sosma cases, amid concerns over long-drawn trials. 'Is the view of Jelutong (RSN Rayer) for a special court to be set up appropriate? This engagement session gives Jelutong ample opportunity to put forward his views,' Saifuddin told the Dewan Rakyat. 'Provide the justification, provide the rationale. If it is considered a reasonable improvement, we will review it,' he said.

Govt approves RM14.39 mln grant for Suhakam's 2023 operations
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has approved a RM14.39 million grant to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) for its 2023 operational expenses. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying confirmed this as the highest amount ever allocated to the commission. 'The grant is intended to cover operating expenses, fixed allowance of Suhakam Commissioner, emoluments, operations rental, utilities, implementation of Suhakam's annual programmes and activities, as well as the purchase of assets such as vehicles on a one-off basis,' said Lim during the Dewan Rakyat session. She added that the funding decision was based on the 2023 Budget review, Suhakam's expenditure performance, and the government's financial capacity at the time. The allocation ensures Suhakam can continue fulfilling its mandate since its establishment in 2000. Lim also acknowledged proposals from MPs William Leong Jee Keen (PH-Selayang) and Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) to increase Suhakam's funding. 'The government will consider appropriate allocations based on current financial capacity,' she stated. 'Since the establishment of Suhakam in 2000, the government has never failed to provide allocations. The government is always committed to ensuring that Suhakam can operate and fulfil its establishment objectives,' Lim emphasised. - Bernama

PAC to summon 3 ministries, Felcra over AG's findings
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon three ministries and a government agency over matters flagged in the Auditor General's Report 2/2025 on the activities of ministries, departments, statutory bodies and federal government-owned companies. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin said the committee will call the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and Felcra Bhd to provide an explanation regarding the management of palm oil plantation procurement. "The committee will also summon the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to provide an explanation regarding the management of price control and cooking oil subsidies, as well as the Finance Ministry to brief on the governance of the tender procurement committee. "The date of the proceedings and briefings for all three related matters will be determined later," she said in a statement. She said the PAC proceedings on the issues highlighted in the report will focus on topics identified as involving the 3Ps: misappropriation, abuse of power, and waste, as well as 1K, which is leakages. Earlier today, Mas Ermieyati said the committee received a briefing from the AG regarding the reports, which were tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday and debated on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC will table two follow-up action reports by two ministries on July 28 and July 29. "First, on the Home Ministry's follow-up actions on the recommendations of the PAC report regarding the procurement of the Foreign Workers Centralised Management System. "Second, on the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department, and the Sabah State Water Department's follow-up actions on the recommendations of the PAC report regarding the management of rural water supply projects in Sarawak and Sabah."
