Freaky Friday's Jamie Lee Curtis Revealed Why She Nearly Passed On The Original Movie

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. With Freakier Friday's August premiere getting closer every day, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are a big part of the 2025 movie schedule's summer fun. The flick obviously owes much of its buzz to Lohan and Curtis' earlier wacky body swap movie. with Freaky Friday bringing Lohan's career to new heights while also introduced her elder Hollywood vet to a whole new generation of young fans. Now that the stars are talking more about that world, Curtis shared why she almost turned down the role of Tess Coleman back in the early aughts. Ahead of the full-on incoming Freakier Friday pre-release hype, JLC chatted with EW about how she almost wasn't in the iconic Disney title. She revealed multiple factors played into her decision, involving her family, the pre-produdction timeline — Annette Bening had dropped out not long before filming — and the location all working in tandem to convince her to sign on. The iconic scream queen highlighted the importance of motherhood on and off the screen, saying: I had a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old at home, with three days of prep before the original Freaky Friday. If it filmed outside California, I wouldn't have been in the movie. If it shot in Vancouver, I wouldn't have done it, because I had kids. Balancing motherhood is a big part of our lives, but it's also a big part of the movie. It's the story of the movie. It's wild to think of streaming the Disney+ subscription original sans the Everything Everywhere All At Once alum. It's by far one of Curtis' best movies, at least for this millenial, and Freaky Friday would've been drastically different with anyone else in the role. Still, the reason why she almost didn't hop on Jake's (Chad Michael Murray) bike is more than understandable and commendable. Balancing work and motherhood with young kids is a reality that gets misconstrued all too often. I'm just glad, in this case, things worked out for the best for her and her family. With her kids grown, the two-decades-later sequel returned to L.A. to film and seems as family-oriented, fun-loving and silly as evidenced by the quotable new FF trailer. But, it's not the only Curtis film we'll be treated to this year! She already appeared in the so-so Star Trek: Section 31, and we can expect her in James L. Brooks' comedy/drama, Ella McCay in September. You can get ready for the August and September titles by streaming the Michelle Yeoh-led film with a Paramount+ subscription. Freakier Friday's Lindsay Lohan Explains How Becoming A Mother Informed Her Performance In The Sequel Needless to say, Curtis has continued to strike a balance that works for her personal and professional life, regardless of the stage of motherhood she's in. Thankfully, though, we don't have to live without her in Freaky Friday or Freakier Friday.

School Spirits Cast Reacts to ‘Death' and Betrayal in Long-Awaited Season 2 Premiere: ‘Yeah, That Sucks' (Grade It!)

Simon is no longer the only one seeing dead people on School Spirits. The Paramount+ drama returned Thursday with the first three episodes of its long-awaited sophomore season, picking up in the immediate aftermath of that bonkers Season 1 finale, which revealed that Maddie isn't actually dead — her body was merely hijacked by a vengeful spirit named Janet! Because why not. (Plus, Grade It!) As a thank-you to fans for their patience (it's been nearly two years since that finale aired!), School Spirits delivers a similarly jaw-dropping twist in the Season 2 premiere, which ends with Xavier temporarily crossing over to the other side before watching a team of doctors bring him out of his coma. It's the ultimate out-of-body experience, one that signals 'an incredible evolution of the character and the lore of the show,' according to actor Spencer MacPherson. 'First, to realize that there are these different ecosystems of the dead that exist is really cool,' MacPherson tells TVLine. 'On top of that, what this means for Xavier moving forward is really exciting to play. It's the catalyst for this huge character growth and development that he has this season, which is awesome.' Less awesome was having to pretend to be unconscious in a hospital bed for the entire premiere; MacPherson even admits to grabbing a nap during a scene… or two. He recalls series creators Megan and Nate Trinrud explaining their plan for the premiere, telling him, 'Listen, we have some good news and we have some bad news, OK? The bad news is that you're not in the first episode, but the good news is that you get this awesome sequence at the end.' So, what made Xavier the right character to go full Sixth Sense? As Nate Trinrud explains to TVLine, 'A lot of our show is about redemption. It's about people who make mistakes and how they recover from them. Xavier was very much a suspect in Season 1. He was sort of the cliché go-to, the edgy boyfriend. But the more you get to know him, you see that he does want to help. He does want to solve this mystery. I think people will be really excited to see where that character goes this season.' Adds Megan Trinrud: 'And Spencer is just such a great actor. He's so much fun to watch, and he's so good at doing all the different tones. He's super funny, but he can also do that kind of dark, a little bit scary, you-don't-know-what-he's-thinking thing.' Another premiere twist comes courtesy of Rhonda, who admits to selling out Maddie to Mr. Martin, their shady ghost teacher. And if you think you're disappointed in Rhonda, try being the actress who plays her. 'Yeah, that sucks,' Sarah Yarkin tells TVLine of her character's betrayal, summing up her initial reaction as: 'I was just like, girl, what?!' 'I knew [Rhonda] went down to the boiler room and found their stuff, but I didn't know that she saw [Maddie and Wally] kissing and that it made her sad. All of that was new information, and it actually connected some things for me about what she was going through. She can't just open up, so seeing them connect so easily made her feel all these ways.' Ultimately, Yarkin believes there's 'something really beautiful' about Rhonda's confession. 'She's admitting to Maddie that she can't keep these things anymore and she wants to work together,' Yarkin says. 'It's a jumping off point for the rest of the season for her.' Happy Face: Dennis Quaid Is an Infamous Killer in New Trailer — Plus, Get Paramount+ Release Date

Don't be fooled by its cheery name: Happy Face looks haunting. Paramount+ released a new teaser for the forthcoming drama on Monday, which premieres its first two episodes on Thursday, March 20. (The eight-episode series will then follow a weekly release schedule.) More from TVLine AFC Championship: How to Watch the Bills vs. Chiefs Game Live Online Star Trek: Section 31 Recap: Did Michelle Yeoh Kick Intergalactic Butt in Georgiou's Return? (Plus, Grade It!) TVLine Items: NCIS: Origins Promotion, Grammys Performers and More The footage sees Dennis Quaid don an orange jumpsuit as Keith Jesperson, aka the Happy Face Killer, who sits behind bars for his murderous crimes. He's visited by his daughter, Melissa Moore (played by B Positive's Annaleigh Ashford) — but the meeting doesn't exactly radiate with familial love. (Watch above.) Per the official synopsis, Happy Face follows the pair as Keith 'finally finds a way to force himself back into his daughter's life' after decades without contact. 'In a race against the clock, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed,' the description continues. 'Throughout, she discovers the impact her father had on his victims' families and must face a reckoning of her own identity.' The series is inspired by the real-life story of Moore, who at 15 discovered her father was the infamous Happy Face serial killer; he got the moniker because of the smiley faces he drew on evidence while boasting about his crimes. Moore went on to change her name and keep their relationship a secret while her father served life in prison. The story has already been adapted in Moore's Happy Face podcast, and Shattered Silence, her autobiography written with M. Bridget Cook. As previously reported, the cast also includes James Wolk (Mad Men) as Melissa's bank manager husband, who thinks they've left the trauma of her past behind them — that is, until that past comes knocking on their door, and he grows concerned that his wife is being manipulated all over again. Joining Quaid, Ashford and Wolk are Tamera Tomakili (Winning Time), Khiyla Aynne (Ponysitters Club) and Benjamin Mackey (The Morning Show). Jennifer Cacicio (Shooter, Your Honor) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other EPs include Robert and Michelle King (Evil, The Good Wife, The Good Fight), Michael Showalter (The Dropout, Spoiler Alert) and Liz Glotzer (Evil); Showalter also directed the series' pilot.
