Freaky Friday's Jamie Lee Curtis Revealed Why She Nearly Passed On The Original Movie

With Freakier Friday's August premiere getting closer every day, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are a big part of the 2025 movie schedule's summer fun. The flick obviously owes much of its buzz to Lohan and Curtis' earlier wacky body swap movie. with Freaky Friday bringing Lohan's career to new heights while also introduced her elder Hollywood vet to a whole new generation of young fans. Now that the stars are talking more about that world, Curtis shared why she almost turned down the role of Tess Coleman back in the early aughts.
Ahead of the full-on incoming Freakier Friday pre-release hype, JLC chatted with EW about how she almost wasn't in the iconic Disney title. She revealed multiple factors played into her decision, involving her family, the pre-produdction timeline — Annette Bening had dropped out not long before filming — and the location all working in tandem to convince her to sign on. The iconic scream queen highlighted the importance of motherhood on and off the screen, saying:
I had a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old at home, with three days of prep before the original Freaky Friday. If it filmed outside California, I wouldn't have been in the movie. If it shot in Vancouver, I wouldn't have done it, because I had kids. Balancing motherhood is a big part of our lives, but it's also a big part of the movie. It's the story of the movie.
It's wild to think of streaming the Disney+ subscription original sans the Everything Everywhere All At Once alum. It's by far one of Curtis' best movies, at least for this millenial, and Freaky Friday would've been drastically different with anyone else in the role.
Still, the reason why she almost didn't hop on Jake's (Chad Michael Murray) bike is more than understandable and commendable. Balancing work and motherhood with young kids is a reality that gets misconstrued all too often. I'm just glad, in this case, things worked out for the best for her and her family.
With her kids grown, the two-decades-later sequel returned to L.A. to film and seems as family-oriented, fun-loving and silly as evidenced by the quotable new FF trailer. But, it's not the only Curtis film we'll be treated to this year!
She already appeared in the so-so Star Trek: Section 31, and we can expect her in James L. Brooks' comedy/drama, Ella McCay in September. You can get ready for the August and September titles by streaming the Michelle Yeoh-led film with a Paramount+ subscription.

In the program, he talked about his mother brought him to shelters, revealing that as an adult, he struggles with "not doing more." "I've spent enough time learning and listening to what people have been through that I feel almost guilty every time I leave," he admitted. As King, William seems determined to change the narrative around shaking hands and making appearances versus being able to help in a more concrete way—much like Diana did. "She seemed to think that if she wasn't taking the most extreme course of action to remedy a problem, then she wasn't actually taking any action at all," White told the Mirror. As for Prince William, "I've often heard him say, 'There's been too much talk about that. Princess Diana was open about her thoughts and feelings in a way the public hadn't seen before with royalty, and while speaking to journalists in South Africa during his 2024 Earthshot Prize trip, William said he wants to make the monarchy feel more relatable to the younger generation. "I can only describe what I'm trying to do and that's trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation," he said. "I'm doing it with maybe a smaller r in the royal, if you like, that's maybe a better way of saying it."

As the future King, Prince William not only holds the title of Prince of Wales, but he's also known as the Duke of Cornwall—and on Tuesday, June 3, Kensington Palace announced William be marking a royal first. The Duke of Cornwall will attend The Royal Cornwall Show for the first time on Friday, June 6. But Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cornwall, won't be joining in the fun at the agricultural festival. Prince William's aunt Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh—who serves as patron of the Association of Agricultural Show Organisations and vice president of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association—will join him at the show on Friday. The Duchess of Edinburgh has been married to William's uncle Prince Edward since 1999 and shares a close relationship with the Prince of Wales and his family. She's said to have been an especially strong support for the Princess of Wales as she battled cancer in 2024. William, who serves as patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, will be visiting the event with Sophie "to celebrate and highlight the very best in Cornish heritage and tradition through agriculture, food and drink, entertainment and competition," per Kensington Palace. The duo will first enjoy some local food and drink at the Royal Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion, featuring Cornish favorites like jams, cheeses, gin and other delicacies. The royals will then head their separate ways to focus on their individual causes. Prince William will visit hubs focusing on rural mental health and nature partnerships, and will also present the Duke of Cornwall's award for sustainable approaches to farming, forestry and/or food production. As for Sophie, who last visited the show in 2014, she'll visit two of her patronages, Linking Environment and Farming, and Girl Guides, who have helped run the Royal Cornwall Show for many years. While Princess Kate won't be joining them at the event, it's expected she'll participate in The King's annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, next Saturday, June 14.

Rachel Zegler's ‘Snow White' Gets Disney+ Streaming Date

Directed by Marc Webb, Snow White opened in theaters on March 21 and debuted on digital streaming on May 13. The official synopsis for the movie reads, 'Disney's Snow White is a vibrant live-action musical reimagining of Walt Disney's groundbreaking full-length animated classic. 'Experience the timeless adventure as Snow White (Zegler) journeys into magical woods to escape her stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gadot), and meets the beloved Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey, Grumpy and Doc who join her quest to restore the kingdom and bring kindness to the land.' Walt Disney Home Entertainment announced on Wednesday that Snow White will premiere on streaming video on demand on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 11. You must be a Disney+ subscriber to watch Snow White on the platform. The platform offers an ad-based Disney+ Basic plan for $9.99 per month, as well as an ad-free Disney+ Premium plan for $15.99 per month or $159.99 per year. Disney+ is also available in bundling packages with fellow streaming services Hulu and Max. Snow White had a rough run in theaters following a slew of pre-release controversies, including Rachel Zegler's criticism of the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and politically divisive social media posts, and Disney's handling of how the seven dwarfs should be represented on screen. Disney ultimately settled on CGI dwarfs to represent the diminutive characters. The film earned a 40% 'rotten' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 258 reviews. The Critics Consensus on the review aggregation site reads, 'Snow White is hardly a grumpy time at the movies thanks to Rachel Zegler's luminous star turn, but its bashful treatment of the source material along with some dopey stylistic choices won't make everyone happy, either.' Snow White, however, did receive a 71% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 2,500-plus verified user ratings. Snow White will arrive on Disney+ on June 11.
