Marina Mabrey hits all-time WNBA low point in Sun's 48-point loss to Liberty

The post Marina Mabrey hits all-time WNBA low point in Sun's 48-point loss to Liberty appeared first on ClutchPoints. Marina Mabrey had a historically brutal game in the Connecticut Sun's 100-52 blowout loss to the New York Liberty on Sunday. Advertisement In 28 minutes of action, Mabrey was unable to get her shot going as she also got into foul trouble. She finished with a stat line of eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. She shot 2-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-9 from beyond the arc. What stood out from Mabrey's struggles was how the Liberty dominated when she was on the court. When the final buzzer sounded, Mabrey had a plus-minus rating of -55, meaning that New York outscored the Sun by 55 points when Mabrey was playing. As a result, she recorded the lowest +/- in a single game in WNBA history, per StatMamba. What's next for Marina Mabrey, Sun John Jones-Imagn Images It will ultimately be a game to forget for Marina Mabrey and the Sun, considering they lost in dominant fashion to the defending WNBA champions in the Liberty. Advertisement New York took a convincing 31-13 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Connecticut failed to put together a string of runs to get back in the game, seeing the deficit get bigger as more time passed. The Sun's shot selection proved to be inefficient against the Liberty. They were successful on 31.1% of their total shot attempts, including 21.4% of their tries from three. Connecticut also turned the ball over 19 times, which proved to be fatal towards their chances of staying somewhat competitive with their opponents. Only two players scored in double-digits on Connecticut's behalf. Jacy Sheldon was active on the stat sheet with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. She shot 4-of-7 from the field, including 1-of-4 from downtown. Tina Charles came next with 10 points and a steal, while Aneesah Morrow provided eight points and three rebounds. The Sun will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being at home. They host the Atlanta Dream on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Nikola Jokić Makes NBA History in Nuggets' Game 1 Victory

The Denver Nuggets looked like they were on their way to losing Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals to the Oklahoma City Thunder, as they trailed by a sizable margin for much of the second half. But down the stretch, they continually scratched and clawed, and they ended up stealing Game 1 by a final score of 121-119 over a team that won 68 games during the regular season. Advertisement Superstar center Nikola Jokić led the way with a truly Herculean performance. He scored 42 points on 15-of-29 field-goal shooting and added 22 rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots. According to StatMamba, he was the first player to ever post 42 points, 22 boards and six assists in a playoff game. With 3:02 to go in the fourth quarter, Isaiah Hartenstein put Oklahoma City ahead 115-106. But the Nuggets scored eight straight points, with Jokic providing seven of those points, to come to within one point with 1:07 left. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (15) shoots against Thunder forward Chet Holmgren (7). Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images They made the rest of the game a free throw shooting contest, and with 10 seconds left, Thunder big man Chet Holmgren missed two free throws after getting fouled. Christian Braun grabbed the rebound, and Westbrook drove downcourt and found forward Aaron Gordon open for the game-winning 3-pointer. Advertisement Denver won the NBA championship just two seasons ago, giving it a big advantage in the experience department over the young Thunder. If the Thunder lose Game 2 on Wednesday as well, they may not have enough bolts left to throw at the Nuggets once the scene shifts to the Mile High City for Game 3 and Game 4. Butler makes Warriors history as fastest player to hit stat benchmark

Butler makes Warriors history as fastest player to hit stat benchmark originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Jimmy Butler nearly recorded his second triple-double as a Warrior while leading Golden State to a 104-93 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday at Chase Center. On a night when Steph Curry sat out for some needed rest, Butler filled up the stat sheet with 24 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists. Not only was Butler's performance critical to getting the Warriors a bounce-back win, but it also put him in the franchise record books. The veteran forward needed just 17 games to reach both 100 rebounds and 100 assists in a Golden State uniform, which is the fastest mark in the franchise's storied history, according to StatMamba. Jimmy Butler is the fastest player in Warriors franchise history to record 100+ REB & 100+ AST. — StatMamba (@StatMamba) March 19, 2025 In those 17 games, Butler has helped his new team to a red-hot 15-2 record and a much-improved NBA playoffs outlook. With Curry absent, the Warriors especially relied on the six-time All-Star down the stretch to carry their offense. In the fourth quarter alone, Butler recorded nine points, four assists and three rebounds to help stave off a Bucks squad that went on a huge run to start the second half. His witty drawn foul on a 3-point attempt at the end of the third quarter — he converted all three free throws — restored Golden State's lead for good. With the Western Conference standings crowded, the Warriors wouldn't mind another 100 rebounds and assists from Butler over their last 13 regular-season games. Bewildering Steph stat shows magnificence of his 25K-point feat

Bewildering Steph stat shows magnificence of his 25K-point feat originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Steph Curry joined elite NBA company by scoring his 25,000th career point on Saturday night. However, his path into the elite scoring club is markedly different than any of the other 25 players to accomplish the feat. Curry attempted the fewest career free throws — by far — of any player to eclipse 25,000 points, further highlighting the Warriors superstar's incredible open-play scoring ability. Steph Curry has the fewest free throw attempts by a player when reaching 25,000 career points. — StatMamba (@StatMamba) March 9, 2025 Curry surpassed the 25,000-point threshold with 4,355 career free-throw attempts. The only other player to score at least 25,000 career points that is remotely close to Curry's charity-stripe efficiency is Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Alex English, who is 23rd on the NBA's all-time scoring list (25,613) and finished his career with 5,141 free-throw attempts. Curry passed the 25,000-point mark with a 3-pointer during the third quarter of the Warriors' 115-110 win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night at Chase Center. Steph's historic triple to eclipse 25,000 points 👏 — Warriors on NBCS (@NBCSWarriors) March 9, 2025 Next up on Curry's ascent of the all-time scoring list is former Warriors executive and Hall of Famer Jerry West who sits 175 points ahead in the No. 25 spot. Where Curry will rank on the final scoring list remains to be seen, but it's clear his efficiency to reach these exclusive scoring plateaus will place him in rarified air when all is said and done.
