BKI operative nabbed after brief encounter in Mohali
The Mohali police Monday arrested a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative following an encounter. The accused had earlier opened fire outside a property dealer's office in Aerocity, Mohali, as an act of extortion. During the police retaliation, he was shot in the leg and was admitted to a local hospital. 'The accused, associated with Babbar Khalsa International, was apprehended after a police encounter in Mohali. On July 10, he had fired shots outside a property dealer's office in Aerocity to demand extortion money. He was injured in retaliatory police firing,' said SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal. The accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, hails from Mandi Gobindgarh in the Fatehgarh Sahib district. Initial investigation revealed that he was operating under instructions from terrorists based abroad, who provided him weapons and financial support. SP Jindal, who was present at the crime scene, told reporters that the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Mohali, had earlier arrested three BKI-linked operatives on Sunday. These individuals were involved in grenade attacks on police posts in Badshahpur (Patiala district) and Ajeemgarh (Haryana). 'All three arrested were linked to Babbar Khalsa International. During their interrogation, Gurpreet's name surfaced, and we began efforts to apprehend him,' said Jindal. SP Jindal said, 'After Gurpreet Singh was identified as a BKI operative, he was placed under surveillance. When he was spotted riding a motorcycle, the police attempted to get him to surrender. Instead, he opened fire at the police, prompting a retaliatory response.' Around five rounds were exchanged during the brief encounter. Gurpreet was hit in the leg and incapacitated. He was taken into custody and hospitalised. The SP said Gurpreet already had four criminal cases registered against him, including incidents of extortion and firing. 'He has served jail term in the past. Further interrogation is on,' he added.

Indian Army soldier arrested from Jammu and Kashmir in Pak-linked espionage case
The Punjab Police's State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) arrested a serving Indian Army soldier for allegedly leaking classified military information to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).According to the statement issued by the Punjab Police, the accused has been identified as Devinder Singh, a resident of Nihalgarh village in Sangrur district. He was arrested on July 14 from Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla arrest follows the earlier detention of ex-Army man Gurpreet Singh, alias Guri or Fauji, who was taken into custody on charges of espionage. Interrogation of Gurpreet Singh revealed Devinder's involvement in obtaining sensitive Army documents while Gurpreet was lodged in Ferozepur Jail. These documents allegedly contained classified information that was later passed on to Pakistan's Devinder Singh's arrest, officials presented him before a Mohali court on July 15. The court granted a six-day police remand for further statement also added that the initial investigations suggest that Devinder and Gurpreet first met in 2017 during training at an Army camp in Pune. They reportedly maintained contact and later served together in postings in Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir. During their service, both had access to confidential military material, some of which was allegedly leaked by Gurpreet. Punjab Police bust Pakistan ISI-backed BKI terror module, 3 arrested
Punjab Police on Friday said they have busted a Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-backed terror module, Babbar Khalsa International, with the arrest of three people, including a juvenile. Two hand-grenades, a pistol, and ammunition were recovered from the members of a terror module busted by the State Special Operation Cell, Mohali, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Friday. State police chief Gaurav Yadav said the group was conspiring to carry out attacks on police establishments and targeted killings in Amritsar district. 'A major terror plot has been foiled, saving countless innocent lives,' the director general of police (DGP) said. In a post on X, Yadav said, 'In an intelligence-led operation, the State Special Operation Cell, Mohali, has successfully busted a Pakistan ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International terror module, being operated by UK-based Nishan Singh and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Rinda. Three associates, including a juvenile, have been arrested.' 'During the operation, two hand-grenades, a pistol, and ammunition were recovered. The nabbed accused have been identified as Sehajpal Singh and Vikramjit Singh, both residents of Ramdas in Amritsar Rural, along with a juvenile,' he said. An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosives Act at SSOC, Mohali, police station. Investigation is underway and more arrests are expected, the DGP said.

Punjab Police foil target killing plot; 2 aides of Arsh Dalla held
In a major breakthrough, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Mohali, has successfully foiled a major target killing plot by arresting two key operatives of Canada-based terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla from Dharamkot in Moga district. The arrested persons have been identified as Kawaljit Singh alias Kaka, a resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, and Navdeep Singh alias Honey, a resident of Badduwal village in Moga. During the operation, the SSOC team recovered a Zigana pistol and nine live cartridges from the possession of the accused. Ravjot Grewal, AIG, SSOC, said the arrests were made following a tip-off that Arsh Dalla was planning to eliminate a rival gang member in Faridkot. He had already provided his operatives with arms and specific target details. Based on this input, a case was registered under FIR No. 07 dated June 13, 2025, under Sections 25 and 25(7) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station SSOC, Mohali. During interrogation, Kawaljit Singh revealed chilling details about the plot. He admitted to being in direct contact with Arsh Dalla, who had tasked him with the assassination and ordered that even the target's family members be eliminated if present. He further disclosed receiving ₹1 lakh as an advance payment and confirmed that logistical support was being provided by Navdeep Singh. Investigations also revealed that Kawaljit had recruited additional associates, and an unidentified individual had already conducted a recce of the target's residence. More extortion-related targets were also assigned to the duo. With these arrests, the SSOC thwarted a major violent crime and potentially saved lives. Both accused are currently in police remand for four days as further investigation continues.

Espionage case: Punjab YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to 14-days judicial custody
CHANDIGARH: A Mohali court on Monday sent Punjab YouTuber Jasbir Singh, arrested on espionage charges to fourteen days' judicial custody. Singh alias Jaan Mahal, a resident of Mahlan village in Rupnagar district, was arrested on June 4 and was sent to Ropar Jail from Mohali. He was running a YouTube channel "JaanMahal Video" with over 11 lakh subscribers, ostensibly posting travel and cooking vlogs. Singh was produced before the court after the completion of the two-day police remand. Speaking to the presspersons, the counsel appearing for Mr Singh said that they will file his bail application. Meanwhile, his female friend, hailing from Jalandhar, was questioned for hours at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of the Punjab Police. According to the police, She has told them that Singh took her to Delhi several times and once accompanied her to an invitation-only Pakistan Day event hosted by the Pakistan High Commission, despite her not having an official invite. Singh allegedly used his close ties with Pakistan operative Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish to secure her entry, according to police sources. The woman also claimed that Singh had been providing her with financial assistance for some time. Her phone and social media accounts are currently being examined as part of the broader investigation into a suspected Pakistan-backed espionage network. According to investigators, Danish had been attempting to lure more young women into the network. Singh is also suspected to have been in contact with another Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO), Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa.
