Pompeo is known for her portrayal of Dr. Meredith Grey on "Grey's Anatomy," in which she's starred in for 20 years. Over the years, Pompeo has served as an executive producer for the show. She also is a co-executive producer on "Station 19," which is a spinoff of "Grey's Anatomy." In 2007, Pompeo's performance as Meredith earned her a Golden Globe nomination for best performance by a female actress in a television series - drama. She recently starred in the Hulu limited series "Good American Family." During Tuesday's Walk of Fame ceremony, Pompeo was celebrated by Rhimes and Debbie Allen, who plays Dr. Catherine Fox on "Grey's Anatomy" and also serves as an executive producer and director. Speaking during the ceremony, Rhimes recalled a lunch she had with Pompeo not long after Pompeo was cast in "Grey's Anatomy." Rhimes said she remembered going home after their meeting, where she wrote about Pompeo in her journal, "This girl is a spitfire. She will lay you out with the truth, up, down and sideways." "I was absolutely thrilled and a little bit terrified," she added. "Because it's rare to meet somebody like her. Very few people are who they present themselves to be. But Ellen is exactly who she says she is." Rhimes then turned to Pompeo and said, "You're one of a kind." She went on to say that Pompeo "is Meredith Grey" because "she is so good at playing her role." In a separate speech, Allen said of Pompeo, "I don't know anyone who comes to the set and makes sure everyone has what they need and orders vegan food, even though they want meat." "She always has ideas about her character," she continued. "She comes from a place of real truth." Also in attendance were actors Christina Hendricks and Dash Mihok and Pompeo's husband, Chris Ivery.

Shonda Rhimes reveals the 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Scandal' spinoffs that could have been

Shonda Rhimes has mastered the art of the spinoff (and the prequel ... and the crossover). But that doesn't mean that every spinoff idea the Shondaland founder has had made its way to air. Rhimes' first series, Grey's Anatomy, has successfully launched two spinoffs in its time with 2007's Private Practice and 2018's Station 19, but in looking back at 20 years of Shondaland, Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that there have been a few other ideas along the way. "On Grey's, there were a bunch," Rhimes says when asked about spinoff ideas that didn't happen. "I felt like we could have done Chicago Anatomy, Boston. We could have done that. It just didn't appeal to me to rebuild the same world. And then we thought about a lot of things." Related: Shonda Rhimes dishes on her best episodes, biggest battles, and the spinoff ideas that never happened One of those things involved the Shepherd family. "I thought that there could be a spinoff with Amelia [Caterina Scorsone] that was the Shepherd sisters," she says. "They're all doctors. It could have been a Shepherd sisters show, which would've been very interesting." Amelia, of course, is the most prominent of Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) sisters on Grey's, but the series has also introduced Nancy (Embeth Davidtz), Kathleen (Amy Acker), and Liz (Neve Campbell), though fans have yet to see all of them together — hence the spinoff idea. (And let's not forget that the great Tyne Daly plays matriarch Carolyn Shepherd.) "We wanted to do a B613 spinoff on Scandal," Rhimes says, which was a topic of discussion when the show was still airing on ABC. The covert government agency, initially run by Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) certainly would've been able to provide its fair share of drama, though it did end up becoming a central part of the flagship series."There was a bunch," Rhimes says of spinoff discussions. "But we really tried to look for shows that could stand on their own two feet, that were their own thing. If you spin off a character, what people want is more of the same. They're like, 'Oh, I'm going to get another show where Addison's [Kate Walsh] the mistress.' Instinctively you want more of the same because that really worked. And to build a new world is incredibly difficult." That's why, for something like Bridgerton, Rhimes says they chose to do Queen Charlotte as a prequel instead of a traditional spinoff. "I love that because it is of the world, but it's not the world," Rhimes says. "I could tell the stories I wanted to tell and find great joy in that." But for the record, we would still watch a show about the Shepherd sisters. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Station 19 Stars Divulge the #Marina Stories They Never Got to Tell

When Grey's Anatomy spinoff Station 19 aired its series finale six months ago, co-stars Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato were no readier to say goodbye to Maya and Carina than #Marina shippers were. (And we weren't ready at all.) 'There was so much more story to tell with [them],' Savre tells Entertainment Weekly. Such as? The challenges Maya would have faced in raising a family at the same time as she's fighting fires. 'We knew when we did those flash-forwards that Maya carried one of their children,' Savre notes. So 'it would have been nice to see how she was able to be pregnant and still be a firefighter. 'Carina came into [Grey's Anatomy] with this study about female sexuality, and I would love to see her almost come full circle with that and teach sex education to younger adults,' she says. 'To still feel like [she's] contributing to society in a different way, geared to young adults since she now has kids. 'Also, they say relationships after seven years go through a little struggle,' she continues. 'I would have loved to see the seventh year of their relationship and see how they pulled through that.'
