She said: "Young people are under more pressure than ever and some of the support services that were in place are either not there anymore or past capacity with long waiting times, so it feels like Childline is needed even more now. "That's why raising money for Childline is so important. "It helps ensure that there is always someone at the end of the phone when a child calls. "While the conversations can be about troubling topics, from my own experience it always feels like the young person has benefited from having someone to talk to in a confidential way.' Angela, who has nearly 40 years of experience in teaching, has volunteered as a Childline counsellor for seven and a half years. She first became interested in volunteering for Childline after meeting NSPCC staff during school visits for workshops such as Speak Out and Stay Safe. The experienced teacher said: "I was winding down my career and went part-time, so I was looking for something else to do and that seemed like a natural fit. "The training is incredible and it's definitely something I am proud of, but the service needs support so it would be amazing if people can donate to our fundraiser." Donations can be made online at Angela has previously completed a 10k run and a coastal walk around the Isle of Arran to support the NSPCC. The Great Wall trek, which includes around 10,000 uneven steps each day, will be her most challenging yet. The trek, organised through travel firm Charity Challenge, along the Ming Dynasty masterpiece, will follow the winding path along the Yan Mountains to the Gubeikou Gateway which takes in the well-known 'heavenly staircase'. Angela added: "A lot of people can walk that much in one day without a problem, but it's getting up and doing it the next day, and the day after that, that's going to be the biggest challenge." Funds raised will support NSPCC services including Childline, the adult Helpline, and educational programmes such as Talk PANTS and Speak Out Stay Safe, which strive to help stop child abuse and neglect.

Buckle Up, Stay Safe — Millcreek Twp. takes part in new safety initiative

Millcreek Township is taking part in a nationwide seat belt enforcement campaign, reminding drivers and passengers of the life-saving importance of wearing a seat belt. It's called the Buckle Up, Stay Safe initiative and runs parallel with Click It or Ticket.' EMTA announces summer route changes, including popular Presque Isle Express In 2024, 75 people died in traffic incidents in Erie County. Of those deaths, 23 were attributed to not wearing a seatbelt. 'We will be aggressively looking for seatbelts, and people not wearing their seatbelts, which is usually 10 to 20 percent of the drivers out there. If you are not wearing the seatbelt and get pulled over for a primary infraction, you will be cited for not wearing your seat belt, which is an additional fine and cost,' said Matt Shollenberger, a traffic officer with the Millcreek Township Police Department. Township representatives said seat belt enforcement isn't about writing tickets, but rather making sure everyone gets home safely. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Talabat UAE launches campaign for road safety awareness this Ramadan

In a collaborative effort to enhance road safety during Ramadan, talabat UAE and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, have launched a dedicated road safety initiative campaign. Titled Don't Rush, Stay Safe, the initiative aims to enhance awareness among delivery riders and the public about safe driving practices, particularly during peak hours before Iftar. The campaign advocates for heightened vigilance and patience among all drivers to ensure the safety of every road user and aligns seamlessly with the UAE's overarching road safety objectives, highlighting the critical role of collective efforts in cultivating a robust road safety culture. 'As Ramadan is a time of reflection and presence, we believe that the community should embody these values by adopting road safety practices and being patient with all road users,' said Simonida Subotic, Vice President and Managing Director, talabat UAE. 'The idea behind the campaign is to remind motorists, whether in a car or on two wheels, that getting to your destination safely matters more than getting there quickly.' Talabat collaborated with ITC to pinpoint three most common road safety hazards: jumping red lights, speeding, and phone usage, which are implicitly highlighted in the video campaign. View this post on Instagram A post shared by talabat UAE (@talabatuae) In the short form social media format, audiences witness a man receiving messages from to arrive on time for iftar. Stopped at a red signal light, the man displays signs of impatience, in a hurry to get to his destination. A talabat rider then pulls up next to him and shares a kind wave in greeting. After this exchange, the man continues his journey to find the same talabat rider delivering an order to his family. 'Abu Dhabi Mobility is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance road safety, such as the 'Don't Rush, Stay Safe' campaign, which encourage all motorists to drive with care and patience,' said Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility). 'Through this partnership with talabat UAE, we continue to prioritise the safety of all road users, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.' The campaign has been rolled out across social media platforms, through traditional PR, and OOH. The campaign's slogan has also been rolled out on Variable Messaging Systems (VMS) in Abu Dhabi streets, 'so keep an eye out when driving in the capital,' Subotic said.
