Michael Porter Jr. Warns Sports Betting Can Affect ‘Integrity' of NBA Games

Michael Porter, Jr. is getting candid about the impact of sports betting. On Monday's (Aug. 11) episode of the One Night with Steiny podcast, the Brooklyn Nets small forward and co-hosts Aaron 'Steiny' Steinberg and Bob Menery discussed the explosion of sports betting near the 21-minute mark in the video linked above. Porter Jr. believes sports gambling can affect the 'integrity of the game.' COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess. 'Think about it: if you can get all your homies rich by telling them, 'Yo, bet $10,000 on my under. This one game, I'm gonna act like I got an injury, I'ma sit out, I'ma come out after three minutes,' and they all get a little bag because you did it one game,' said the 27-year-old. 'That is so not okay, but some people probably think like that. They come from nothing and all their homies have nothing.' He continued, 'Obviously my brother [Jontay Porter] went through his situation. Malik Beasley is going through a situation right now, Terry Rozier was in some hot water. But the whole sports gambling, like, entity? Bro, it's bad and it's only gonna get worse. Like, we really do get death threats.' Porter Jr. also touched on the matter in a recent vlog on his Curious Mike YouTube channel while explaining that his 'relationship with God is where it needs to be at.' "Everybody has different vices. Everybody has different things that they struggle with. That can go from people that struggle with alcohol, people that struggle with drugs. My brother, for example, struggled with gambling. My vice has always come in the form of women,' he said at the two-minute mark in the video above. 'I don't think [about] objectifying women, I don't think being with women all the time and sleeping around and doing stuff like that is cool,' he added. 'And I haven't necessarily been doing that. But nevertheless, like women has always been my vice.' Jontay Porter was permanently banned from the NBA in April 2024 for violating the league's gambling policy after an investigation found that he had disclosed information about his health status to an individual he knew to be an NBA bettor. In June, the U.S. District Attorney's office opened an investigation on Detroit Pistons shooting guard Malik Beasley for allegedly gambling on NBA games. The league also investigated Terry Rozier in 2023 for 'unusual activity' but found that no rules were violated, according to ESPN. Rozier's attorney, Jim Trusty, told the network last month that although a federal inquiry is ongoing, his client is not a target of the investigation. To date, Rozier has not been charged nor accused of any wrongdoing. Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. says future wife 'has to be able to cook or something'

In economic terms, Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. simply prioritizes non-market labor over earnings potential. Or, as the 27-year-old put it on the ' One Night with Steiny ' podcast, he'd rather have a domestic wife that brings 'something to the table.' 'I don't mind providing for you, I don't mind doing that,' said Porter, who has $115 million in career earnings. 'You can stay at the crib, you can do your thing. You gotta bring something to the table. 'Positivity, you gotta help me mentally, you gotta be able to cook or something,' he continued. 'You gotta bring something to the table… look, what value are you bringing to my life? That's the way I look at it now.' Pointing to his own mother, who homeschooled Porter and his seven siblings, the former NBA champion doubled down on his statement. 'In a wifey, I don't mind if she's a stay-at-home mom,' he said. 'My mom was a stay-at-home mom but she raised all eight of us kids, she homeschooled us, she cooked for us when my dad was out working, she raised us. 'You gotta be able to do something. These girls nowadays it's like they just want to live like queens and do absolutely nothing.' Porter's love life isn't exactly an open book. As a teenager he dated actress Madison Petit in 2016 and 2017 as well as influencer Kelsey Calemine sometime after that, according to multiple reports. The former Missouri star was traded along with a future first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets to the Nets last month, Porter had played six seasons with the Nuggets, winning an NBA title in 2022-23. Porter has two years and $79 million remaining on his current deal. His family has faced several recent controversies. In April of 2024, for instance, his younger brother Cuban was sentenced to six years in prison for killing a woman while driving drunk. Another brother, Jevon, was also arrested on suspicion of DWI that same month. Porter's younger brother Jontay also reached the NBA, only to be given a lifetime suspension by the league over gambling allegations. 'Obviously, my brother went through his situation,' Porter said on the podcast before referencing some other gambling scandals around the league. 'Malik Beasley's going through a situation right now. Terry Rozier was in some hot water.

Pro-Trump Influencers Admit They're 'Not The Best Journalists' After Disastrous Netanyahu Interview

The popular social media influencers known as the Nelk Boys received a wave of criticism this week following their interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming they're not 'the best at grilling guests and pushing back.' 'Sure, we're probably not the best at asking questions. We're not the best journalists, we never claimed to be, so we might not be the best at pressing them, but in my opinion, it's up to the viewer to form their own educated opinion,' Full Send Podcast co-host Kyle Forgeard said Monday in defense of the interview, which aired Sunday. Forgeard and co-host Aaron 'Steiny' Steinberg rose to internet fame as the Nelk Boys, appealing to young men immersed in frat culture. Their social media content consists of prank videos, young women in bikinis and promoting controversial 'manosphere' figures such as Andrew Tate and Conor McGregor. The Nelk Boys' foray into politics manifested itself as heavy support for President Donald Trump. They interviewed Trump in 2020 and spoke at his 2024 campaign rallies, creating content with Trump and denouncing then-Vice President Kamala Harris. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NELK (@nelkboys) Their 70-minute interview with Netanyahu drew backlash from many for being too lenient. Others criticized the fact that the Israeli prime minister was even on in the first place. Last week, the International Criminal Court rejected Israel's request to withdraw its arrest warrant for Netanyahu, whom it has accused of crimes against humanity and using food as a weapon in its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza. The Nelk Boys lobbed several softball questions at Netanyahu throughout the interview, such as, 'What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?' and 'What's your go-to at McDonald's?' 'You like Burger King over McDonald's?' Forgeard asked at around 42:22. Steinberg then called Netanyahu's fast-food preference his 'worst take.' The Nelk Boys did ask Netanyahu some harder-hitting questions, including 'Why do they say Israel is, like, starving the people of Gaza?' However, the duo did not press the prime minister any further, instead allowing him to promote Israel's side amid the conflict with Palestine uninterrupted. In an almost four-hour-long Kick stream on Monday, the duo read comments from viewers bashing them for their interview. 'Asking him if he prefers Burger King or McDonald's… While people are starving… this is insane,' one comment read. 'Reputation takes years to build & just seconds to ruin,' read another comment with over 20,000 likes. 'This is the point of the podcast,' Forgeard responded. 'We leave it up to you guys as the viewer to form your own intelligent opinion. I think you guys are giving us way too much credit as Nelk and you're not giving yourself as viewers enough credit.' Leftist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker appeared on the stream, ripping the two apart for giving a microphone to Netanyahu. 'It's like, interviewing Adolf Hitler,' Piker said. 'Like, would you interview Adolf Hitler during the Holocaust if you had the opportunity?' White supremacist Nick Fuentes also came on the stream to tell the Nelk Boys their interview was a 'bad move' because he believes people will see the episode as 'a push by Netanyahu for public relations.' 'He's gonna come on your show to try to get all the young conservative, frat guys. You know, all the masculine men, the manosphere types, the streaming types to try and get back into the pocket of Israel,' Fuentes said. The Nelk Boys continued to defend the interview. 'On the Full Send Podcast what we do and what our style is, is we will have the most controversial people on this fucking planet on the podcast, hate it or love it,' Forgeard said. Related... What Armstead texted Warner after 49ers re-hired Saleh as DC

What Armstead texted Warner after 49ers re-hired Saleh as DC originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area The band is back together with the 49ers re-hiring Robert Saleh as their defensive coordinator, but one former bandmate will have to watch the show go on without him from the opposite end of the country. Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead, who spent nine seasons in San Francisco and four with Saleh, revealed his honest reaction to the reunion. 'Fred [Warner] posted a picture with Robert Saleh [on Instagram] after he went back there, and I sent Fred a message, I said, 'Dang, I'm jealous,' ' Armstead said Thursday on 95.7 The Game's 'Steiny & Guru.' 'Saleh is one of the best coaches I've ever played for. He's truly a special coach. He brings that energy, he cares about his players, schematically, he's elite. And he has the experience. He's been around a lot of football, been in a lot of big games and coaching in big moments.' The 49ers last week officially announced the hiring of Saleh, 45, as defensive coordinator to fill the key spot on Kyle Shanahan's coach staff. Saleh returns to the coaching position he held from 2017 to 2020 before he landed a head-coaching job with the New York Jets. While his defensive prowess carried over to New York, leading to records and feats the organization hadn't seen prior, the team failed to reach its expectations behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Saleh ended his Jets tenure with a 20-36 record. But Saleh endured his most success as an NFL coach with the 49ers, and Armstead explained why. 'The thing I've seen, I was with Saleh in 2017 and I've known him for a long time, is the ability as a coordinator and a coach to put out fires,' Armstead explained. 'There's going to be teams that try to attack you in new ways and you have to come up with answers. I've seen him do that for years. When all these offensive coordinators are throwing all these different schemes at him, he's been able to adjust. 'And I think that's the making of a great coach. So, I'm definitely jealous. I love Saleh. But it was great to see him go back to the Bay around some familiar faces and people that love him. So definitely happy for him.' While Armstead now is on the East Coast with his own team rebrand in the AFC South, he surely will be rooting for Saleh and the 49ers behind closed doors. And, of course, vice versa for the beloved former Niner. Download and follow the 49ers Talk Podcast
