The 42-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were reports that the man had been stabbed and that police had launched a major manhunt for a suspect. Det Insp Steven Slater, of the force's Major Investigation Team, urged anyone with information to come forward. He said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this very difficult time. "They are being supported by specialist officers. "Officers are carrying out several lines of inquiry and there will be a continued visible police presence in the area. "Anyone with concerns can speak to these officers." He asked anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information to contact Police Scotland via a dedicated online form, external.

Stunned passersby shared footage on social media which shows half a dozen armed officers climbing through the windows of the property from its veranda. Police appeared to use 'stun grenades' as loud bangs and flashes of light were seen coming from within the home. The area was sealed off with blue tape as several other gun cops manned the outside. Hordes of locals gathered to watch the drama unfold. A 20-year-old man was later taken to hospital for treatment. He was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 4.25pm on Saturday 26 April, 2025, we received a report of a concern for a person at a property in Sophia Crescent, Irvine. 'A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. 'He was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident. "A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.'
