Peter Capaldi, Stereo, Glasgow ★★★ Some 45 years ago, Peter Capaldi would have been playing the early Eighties equivalent of Stereo as frontman of Glasgow post-punk band The Dreamboys (with his pal Craig Ferguson on drums). Now he's an Oscar-winning national treasure going back to his musical roots with two albums on local label Last Night From Glasgow. Peter Capaldi | David Hepburn There was as much of a thrill in the air as could be mustered in the sultry heat of this subterranean venue as a suited and booted Capaldi took the stage for the second of two sold out shows, backed by a young band kitted out in sparkly tracksuit tops. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Taking a brief breather after pounding opener Is It Today and the brooding storytelling of Hanger Lane, the coolest Doctor Who regaled the audience with tales of his first guitar by way of intro to the title track of his latest album, Sweet Illusion. Next, it was indoor shades on for a sweet, twinkly lullaby dedicated to his grandkids - about taking out the bins. As a vocalist, Capaldi is more declaimer than crooner but of course he has charisma to spare as well as a bone dry sense of humour. Proclaiming himself the 'goth Victor Meldrew', he showcased his best effort at a happy song which he reckoned doubled as an assessment of his music career: Not Going Anywhere. However, the hokey rocky horror melodrama of It's Not Over Until It's Over suggested that Capaldi as Frank-N-Furter wouldn't be a stretch should the opportunity arise.

Peter Capaldi Live in Glasgow: Here are 13 amazing pictures of the Doctor Who star's first public music gig for over 40 years
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi played the first of two hometown gigs at Glasgow's Stereo venue last night (Tuesday, July 29). It follows the release of the Doctor Who star's second album, 'Sweet Illusions', on local record label Last Night From Glasgow earlier this year - and a guest slot with Franz Ferdinand at Glastonbury. Capaldi was born in Glasgow and grew up in Springburn and Bishopbriggs - attending St Teresa's Primary School, St Matthew's Primary School in Bishopbriggs, and St Ninian's High School in Kirkintilloch, before studying at Glasgow School of Art. His musical career began when he formed a band called 'The Dreamboys', whose lineup included comedian Craig Ferguson. But ultimately he chose a career in film and television, winning an Oscar for his short film 'Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life', and starring in the likes of 'The Thick of It' and 'Doctor Who', amongst a string of television and film roles. Here are 13 pictures from the show, where he played the following: Is It Today Hanger Lane Sweet Illusions Bin Night Not Going Anywhere Something to Behold It's Not Over Until It's Over The Big Guy A Little Bit of Class Ken And Anne Marie (Beautiful & Weird) Through the Cracks Friday I'm In Love No One in the World You can buy Peter Capaldi's album from Last Night From Glasgow here - where you can also sign up to become a member and receive lots of great records while supporting Glasgow's music scene. 1 . The album, produced and mastered by Jason Shaw at Fuzzface Studios in 2024, has a distinctly Scottish influence having been written in the Highlands and recorded on the West Coast in Largs. (Image: Supplied) It features guest vocals from Shanine Gallagher, a long-time friend and collaborator who previously released music under the moniker Ess_Gee. Described as a "last dance at the twilight of millennial youth," the album tackles themes of love, friendship, sexuality, self-identity, mental health, and mortality amid the shifting political and cultural climate of the past 25 years. Originally a solo project launched by Mr Mackenzie during lockdown, The Joshua Hotel evolved into a trio in 2023 with the release of their EP Oblivion Days. 21 Celebrities Who Dated, Married, Or Divorced Their Employees
As a non-famous, regular person, it's fun to fantasize about marrying a celebrity. But that's exactly what it is: a FANTASY. A dream that probably won't come true. But today, we're gonna indulge those fantasies — because I've compiled a list of celebs who dated their employees! Just regular people who stumbled upon a celebrity at work, and boom, the rest is history. 1. Christina Aguilera met her fiancé Matthew Rutler on set of the Burlesque movie in 2010. He was only a production assistant, while she obviously starred in the movie! They've been together ever since, and got engaged in 2014. 2. Hilary Duff dated her personal trainer, Jason Walsh, around 2016. Hilary called it the "first more serious relationship" she had since getting divorced from her ex-husband, Mike Comrie, earlier that same year. But it didn't last too long, and she's now happily married to musician Matthew Koma. 3. Britney Spears was married to her backup dancer, Kevin Federline, for three years. They met in 2004, got married just a couple months later, and had two kids together before finalizing their divorce in 2007. And bonus: she's now dating Paul Richard Soliz, who was a maintenance worker on her house. 4. Ethan Hawke is currently married to Ryan Shawhughes. She worked as his kids' nanny while he was married to Uma Thurman, but he and Ryan only started dating a year after his marriage to Uma ended. They got married in 2008, and have two kids together. 5. Way back in 2010, Kim Kardashian dated her bodyguard, Shengo Deane. They weren't together for long, but they had a little fling! So there's that! 6. Natalie Portman and her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied met on set for Black Swan in 2010. He was her choreographer, working with her on some of the ballet steps she'd perform in the movie. They were married for around seven years before finalizing their divorce in 2024. 7. Usher famously married his stylist, Tameka Foster, in 2007. They had two kids together before getting divorced in 2009. In 2021, she opened up about their marriage to Page Six, saying, "The truth is, I really, really loved my husband. It wasn't bullshit. It wasn't gold-digging." 8. We all know how adorable John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are — but you might not know how it all started. Wayyyy before getting married in 2013, she was a model in his 2006 music video "Stereo," which is where they met. 9. Pamela Anderson has been married five times. The last of those marriages was with Dan Hayhurst, who was her builder and bodyguard! They met when he renovated her house in Vancouver, and were married from 2020 until 2022. 10. Ariana Grande dated Ricky Alvarez, who was one of her backup dancers. They became official in 2015 and broke up the following year — but she did "[write] some songs about Ricky" (her words from "thank u, next," not mine). 11. And along those lines, how could I forget about Mariah Carey? She dated Bryan Tanaka, who was a backup dancer on her 2006 tour. But they didn't actually start dating until ten years after that, and spent many years together before breaking up in late 2023. 12. Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian met in the most adorable way: Patrick was her client at her hair salon! They got married in 1999 and now have three kids together. It's a match made in haircut heaven. 13. Madonna has had flings with several people who worked for her — including backup dancer Brahim Zaibat, choreographer Timor Steffens, and most recently, backup dancer Ahlamalik Williams. He is also 36 years younger than her. These two dated for three years, and broke up in 2022. 14. Jennifer Lopez has dated two of her backup dancers. The first was Cris Judd, who she hired for her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" music video — they got married in 2001, and separated a year later. Then, dated Beau "Casper" Smart, another backup dancer, from 2011 until 2016. 15. Another bodyguard love story! Heidi Klum and her bodyguard, Martin Kristen, dated for about a year and a half. They broke up in 2014, and stopped working together at that point (duh). 16. Robin Williams, who passed away in 2014, married his son's nanny, Marsha Garces. She also became a production assistant on some of his movies. These two became pregnant in 1988, got married the year after, and got divorced in 2010. Evan Agostini / Getty Images 17. Arnold Schwarzenegger had some kind of fling with his former housekeeper, Mildred Patricia Baena. It technically wasn't a full-on relationship; they allegedly just had a one-night stand. But she did give birth to his child in 1997, while he was still with his ex-wife Maria Shriver. And we only learned about it in 2011. Klaus Pressberger / Getty Images Again, I couldn't find a photo of the two of them; for this, I apologize! 18. Country singer LeeAnn Rimes was once married to her backup dancer, Dean Sheremet. They met when he was chosen to dance backup for her at the 2001 Country Music Awards. The pair were married from 2002 until 2009, ending because she reportedly cheated on Dean with her now-husband, Eddie Cibrian. R. Diamond / Getty Images 19. Jeff Bridges met his current wife, Susan Geston, while she was working as a waitress in Montana in the mid-1970s. At the time, Jeff was filming the movie Rancho Deluxe. (So I guess she wasn't technically working for HIM, but still.) They got married in 1977 and have three kids! How cute! Axelle / FilmMagic / Getty Images 20. And another actor who married a server! Nicolas Cage was once married to Alice Kim, who was his waitress at a restaurant in Los Angeles. She was 19 when they met, while he was 40. They got married only two months after meeting and had one son together, before getting divorced in 2017. Luca Teuchmann / Getty Images 21. Similarly, David Schwimmer was married to Zoë Buckman, who is 19 years younger than him, for seven years — from 2010 until 2017. They had one daughter together. But how did they meet? Funny story: she was his waitress at the Cuckoo Club, a London nightclub. Walter Mcbride / Getty Images Any other celebrities who have dated or married an employee to add to this list? John Legend will likely move family out of LA as 'threat still looms' after devastating fires
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen considered fleeing Los Angeles following the fires that left some areas of the city destroyed. Legend and Teigen previously lived in New York, and noted they wouldn't make the move until their children are a bit older. "Chrissy and I have always considered returning to New York, where we once lived," Legend told the Wall Street Journal. "We probably will, once our youngest ones grow up a bit. Every time nature shows its wrath, we wonder if it's time to head back East. Who knows." "We're always going to be aware we may have to pack up and go," he later said about what's next for the family of six. Of the LA fires, which began in the Pacific Palisades on Jan. 7, the singer said "the danger felt too close for comfort" once the Sunset Fire began to grow. So they evacuated and stayed at a hotel in Carlsbad. "We didn't return until the following week," Legend told the outlet. "Our home was safe, but many weren't so fortunate, and the threat still looms. The fires were a collective trauma that shook everyone, including our kids." "My childhood in Springfield, Ohio, wasn't as unnerving," Legend explained. "I didn't attend public school until I was 11. Up until then, my three siblings and I were homeschooled by our mom." Legend grew up in a "working-class community." He shared a two-story, four-bedroom home with his father and three siblings on the east side of Springfield. Teigen and Legend met on the set of the musician's music video for "Stereo." The two instantly hit it off, but did have a few bumps on their journey to marriage. At one point, Legend tried to break up with the model, but Teigen wouldn't let him. In 2017, the singer told "The Guardian" that he'd tried to end the relationship and Teigen explained her side on X, formerly Twitter. "It wasn't a typical breakup," Teigen tweeted at the time. "He was on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiny face about everything and so yeah, I was like 'no.'" The couple married in 2013 and now share four children together. "I'm so fortunate that we got to spend some time together on that day, Sept. 13, 2006. We're so lucky to have each other," Legend told Teigen in a video message shared with People magazine in 2021. "We have built a really wonderful family that I'm so proud of. I'm so honored that I get to parent with you and see the way you are with our children... see how creative and inspired and inspiring that you are as a mother." "We've been through so much joy and some pain together. We've laughed together, we've cried together. I wouldn't want to go through any of this with anybody more than I'd want to go through it with you."
