21 Celebrities Who Dated, Married, Or Divorced Their Employees
But today, we're gonna indulge those fantasies — because I've compiled a list of celebs who dated their employees! Just regular people who stumbled upon a celebrity at work, and boom, the rest is history.
1. Christina Aguilera met her fiancé Matthew Rutler on set of the Burlesque movie in 2010. He was only a production assistant, while she obviously starred in the movie! They've been together ever since, and got engaged in 2014.
2. Hilary Duff dated her personal trainer, Jason Walsh, around 2016. Hilary called it the "first more serious relationship" she had since getting divorced from her ex-husband, Mike Comrie, earlier that same year. But it didn't last too long, and she's now happily married to musician Matthew Koma.
3. Britney Spears was married to her backup dancer, Kevin Federline, for three years. They met in 2004, got married just a couple months later, and had two kids together before finalizing their divorce in 2007. And bonus: she's now dating Paul Richard Soliz, who was a maintenance worker on her house.
4. Ethan Hawke is currently married to Ryan Shawhughes. She worked as his kids' nanny while he was married to Uma Thurman, but he and Ryan only started dating a year after his marriage to Uma ended. They got married in 2008, and have two kids together.
5. Way back in 2010, Kim Kardashian dated her bodyguard, Shengo Deane. They weren't together for long, but they had a little fling! So there's that!
6. Natalie Portman and her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied met on set for Black Swan in 2010. He was her choreographer, working with her on some of the ballet steps she'd perform in the movie. They were married for around seven years before finalizing their divorce in 2024.
7. Usher famously married his stylist, Tameka Foster, in 2007. They had two kids together before getting divorced in 2009. In 2021, she opened up about their marriage to Page Six, saying, "The truth is, I really, really loved my husband. It wasn't bullshit. It wasn't gold-digging."
8. We all know how adorable John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are — but you might not know how it all started. Wayyyy before getting married in 2013, she was a model in his 2006 music video "Stereo," which is where they met.
9. Pamela Anderson has been married five times. The last of those marriages was with Dan Hayhurst, who was her builder and bodyguard! They met when he renovated her house in Vancouver, and were married from 2020 until 2022.
10. Ariana Grande dated Ricky Alvarez, who was one of her backup dancers. They became official in 2015 and broke up the following year — but she did "[write] some songs about Ricky" (her words from "thank u, next," not mine).
11. And along those lines, how could I forget about Mariah Carey? She dated Bryan Tanaka, who was a backup dancer on her 2006 tour. But they didn't actually start dating until ten years after that, and spent many years together before breaking up in late 2023.
12. Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian met in the most adorable way: Patrick was her client at her hair salon! They got married in 1999 and now have three kids together. It's a match made in haircut heaven.
13. Madonna has had flings with several people who worked for her — including backup dancer Brahim Zaibat, choreographer Timor Steffens, and most recently, backup dancer Ahlamalik Williams. He is also 36 years younger than her. These two dated for three years, and broke up in 2022.
14. Jennifer Lopez has dated two of her backup dancers. The first was Cris Judd, who she hired for her "Love Don't Cost a Thing" music video — they got married in 2001, and separated a year later. Then, J.Lo dated Beau "Casper" Smart, another backup dancer, from 2011 until 2016.
15. Another bodyguard love story! Heidi Klum and her bodyguard, Martin Kristen, dated for about a year and a half. They broke up in 2014, and stopped working together at that point (duh).
16. Robin Williams, who passed away in 2014, married his son's nanny, Marsha Garces. She also became a production assistant on some of his movies. These two became pregnant in 1988, got married the year after, and got divorced in 2010.

17. Arnold Schwarzenegger had some kind of fling with his former housekeeper, Mildred Patricia Baena. It technically wasn't a full-on relationship; they allegedly just had a one-night stand. But she did give birth to his child in 1997, while he was still with his ex-wife Maria Shriver. And we only learned about it in 2011.

Again, I couldn't find a photo of the two of them; for this, I apologize!
18. Country singer LeeAnn Rimes was once married to her backup dancer, Dean Sheremet. They met when he was chosen to dance backup for her at the 2001 Country Music Awards. The pair were married from 2002 until 2009, ending because she reportedly cheated on Dean with her now-husband, Eddie Cibrian.

19. Jeff Bridges met his current wife, Susan Geston, while she was working as a waitress in Montana in the mid-1970s. At the time, Jeff was filming the movie Rancho Deluxe. (So I guess she wasn't technically working for HIM, but still.) They got married in 1977 and have three kids! How cute!

20. And another actor who married a server! Nicolas Cage was once married to Alice Kim, who was his waitress at a restaurant in Los Angeles. She was 19 when they met, while he was 40. They got married only two months after meeting and had one son together, before getting divorced in 2017.

21. Similarly, David Schwimmer was married to Zoë Buckman, who is 19 years younger than him, for seven years — from 2010 until 2017. They had one daughter together. But how did they meet? Funny story: she was his waitress at the Cuckoo Club, a London nightclub.

4 Rising Dancers Reflect on the Cracked Mirror ‘Black Swan' Held to Ballet
When 'Black Swan' was released in 2010, many film critics thrilled to its tortured-artist twist on body horror, its depiction of ballet as a force that can make people martyrs and monsters. Ballet dancers tended to be less enthusiastic about the Darren Aronofsky film. In its brittle, tormented ballerina — Nina Sayers, who descends into madness as she prepares to dance 'Swan Lake' — they saw a jumble of bad ballet clichés. They disliked that the movie's deliberate confusion of reality and fantasy seemed to extend offscreen: Though Natalie Portman trained intensively for the role of Nina, her dance double, the former American Ballet Theater principal Sarah Lane, accused the filmmakers of misrepresenting how much dancing Portman did. And dancers couldn't forgive 'Black Swan' for portraying their devotion to ballet — a passion born of joy — as a kind of pathology. This month, 'Black Swan' returns to theaters for its 15th anniversary. Film critics still admire it; earlier this year, it made The New York Times's list of the Top 100 films of the 21st century. Ballet dancers' feelings? Still complicated. The American Ballet Theater principals Catherine Hurlin, 29, and Chloe Misseldine, 23, and the New York City Ballet principals Miriam Miller, 28, and Mira Nadon, 24, were young students when 'Black Swan' came out. They grew up in its shadow. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

11 Times Celebs Revealed Hidden Costs Of Fame
Many actors, singers, and other celebrities have net worths that most of us could only dream of. While "more money, more problems" isn't necessarily accurate, "more money, different problems" seems to fit the bill. It's interesting to hear about the financial side of Hollywood behind the glitz and glamour. Here are 11 times celebs revealed the "hidden costs" of being famous: Referencing her desire to be a young mom, Sydney Sweeney told the Hollywood Reporter, "If I wanted to take a six-month break [to have a kid], I don't have income to cover that. I don't have someone supporting me; I don't have anyone I can turn to to pay my bills or call for help. They don't pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals. The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5% to my lawyer, 10% to my agents, 3% or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that's more than my mortgage." For Margot Robbie, landing the role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad came with an increased need for personal security. She told the Hollywood Reporter, "There's just all this stuff you learn along the way, like, when you get those death threats, it's [smart] to have a security team do a background check on whoever sent them to see if there is any past history of violence, because you'll need to know whether you need security to go to certain events. And every time you do a background check, it's going to cost $2,000, so take that into consideration when you're getting yourself into this." Taraji P. Henson told Sirius XM, "I hear people go, 'You work a lot.' I have to. The math ain't mathing. And when you start working a lot, you know, you have a team. Big bills come with what we do. We don't do this alone. The fact that we're up here, it's a whole entire team behind us. They have to get paid." Busy Philipps told Page Six, "I have to continually hustle. It is so true. With hair, makeup, and wardrobe and what it cost, Taraji P. Henson really spoke to that, and I felt it so deeply because I look at the money I am supposedly making, and then it is not just the bills but what is expected of me when I show up at a place. The film company or this production company is only going to pay this percentage of your hair, makeup, and wardrobe, so then you have to make up the rest." "It's very expensive to be famous," Sharon Stone told InStyle. "You go out to dinner, and there's 15 people at the table. And who gets the check? You get the $3,000 dinner check every single time." Tiffany Haddish has famously reworn the Alexander McQueen gown she originally bought for the Girls Trip premiere multiple times. Her initial reaction to its $4,000 price tag was, "Oh, hell no. This is my mortgage. I can't wear this dress." She was "devastated" when she learned she couldn't return it. From her first recording contract, Toni Braxton only earned $1,972 after paying back her label for expenses it fronted, such as music videos, travel, clothes, and time in the studio. Ashley Greene told Marie Claire, per HuffPost, "Twilight has ruined me. When this is all over, flying internationally is going to be very hard for me. It is just not worth it to buy a first-class ticket, because of the cost." In a YouTube video, Christy Carlson Romano discussed how she quickly blew through the money she made as a child star. She said, "My biggest thing about child actors — you aren't told that the work is going to slow down. In fact, I was told the opposite, specifically by my mom, some of my team, even my money manager at the time. 'Oh, don't worry, the residuals come; you're going to keep making money.' It's interesting; it bred a sort of contempt in me. It's a tremendous amount of pressure, and I think I self-destructed." On Spike TV's Life or Debt, Aaron Carter said in 2016, "Financially, I'm in a terrible position. When I turned 18, I got hit with all those taxes. I filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year; now I'm already over $100,000 in debt." And finally, in a since-deleted TikTok (per the UK's Metro), Grey's Anatomy and Reign actor Adelaide Kane said, "So I found out today the internet thinks I'm worth $4 million. My crippling debt says otherwise. WHERE?!" In a follow-up video, she broke down how much she made and how much she had to spend on taxes and her team.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals the Heartbreaking Reason She Was Absent From Her Talk Show Last Spring
Kelly Clarkson is proving that family comes first, no matter what has happened in the past. The 43-year-old singer revealed on an Aug. 6 Instagram post that she needed to postpone her Las Vegas residency for a very serious reason. More from SheKnows The Reason Behind Kelly Clarkson & Brandon Blackstock's 'Painful, Messy' Divorce 'Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,' she wrote. 'While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.' The pop star confirmed the rumors about Blackstock's health that first surfaced in April in a report by NewsNation. She had been sporadically absent from The Kelly Clarkson Show, and the media outlet shared unconfirmed news (at the time) about her ex-husband's health. 'Her ex-husband is sick, and she took the kids to see him,' NewsNation said on April 18. Clarkson and Blackstock share two children: a daughter, River, 11, and a son, Remington, 9. He also is father to two children from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth: Savannah and Seth, On Aug. 7, People was the first to confirm that Blackstock passed away at the age of 48 after a three-year battle with cancer. 'It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,' a representative told the media outlet. 'Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.' Blackstock's situation is likely behind the rumors that Clarkson is looking to exit her daytime television contract after the 2025-26 season. She's thinking that she might need a shift next year when her contract is up,' a source told People on July 10. 'She still has time to figure out what's best for her career and family. She was never one to rush into things.' There also seems to be a desire to return to music full-time, but her commitment to The Kelly Clarkson Show doesn't allow for that. While performing at a May 9 concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Clarkson hinted at the conflict. 'We haven't done a show in a while, y'all, 'because I have a talk show,' she told the New Jersey audience, via Page Six. 'It's like a whole other job. We are bummed because we love doing shows, and it's hard to fit it in, so it's cool when it does work out with the schedule, and it's cool to get to see your faces and feed off y'all.' Clarkson and Blackstock's divorce was contentious after they split in 2020, battling over spousal support and her Montana ranch. Still, there was a desire for the TV personality to make the co-parenting relationship work for their kids. 'I know with me and Brandon, it's just a difficult thing because we're in different places, and it's like, we both agree on the main things, but it's a hard thing when you're not together all the time, for me personally,' she told KOST 103.5 in November 2024. 'As long as you make sure it's about the children and their best interests, then we're both on board.' And that's exactly what Clarkson is doing with her ex-husband's health battle, putting their kids' needs first. A version of this article was previously published on Aug. 7, 2025.
