Another effort to help Brimson wildfire victim after destructive damage

Family of a Brimson man whose property was largely destroyed in wildfires raging north of Duluth are asking for the public's support. On May 12, Steve Maki's house was was damaged in the Brimson-area Camp House Fire, while several garages, outbuildings, and vehicles were completely destroyed. His family recently created to help pay for rebuilding efforts. His main home will also require repairs, including new windows and doors, and electricity will need to be reconnected. Maki is currently 'underinsured,' according to the fundraiser. 'He's the third generation to live on the Maki Homestead,' the GoFundMe reads. 'Known for being incredibly hardworking and independent, Steve is the kind of person who's always quick to lend a hand when someone else is in need. Now, he's the one who could use a helping hand.' A GoFundMe has also been created for a retired couple who lost their home after escaping the fire earlier this Camp House Fire is 90% contained following several days of progress in suppressing the fire, which broke out on Sunday, May 11. In a Thursday morning update, the Eastern Area Incident Management Team said: "Since the initial attack, a full-suppression and direct containment strategy has been utilized; and has proven very successful. Yesterday, firefighting crews and equipment working around the Camp House Fire made excellent progress on the entire perimeter of the fire's footprint. Firefighters walking within the wildfire's burned interior, near the line, continued to search for and put out smoldering stumps and roots." The nearby Jenkins Creek Fire, which is larger than the Camp House, is now 32% contained, having spread to around 16,750 acres.
