Ravi Shastri Reveals Insane Amount Indian Cricketers Earn: 'Upwards Of Rs...'

Last Updated: Former India head coach's revelation left former England cricketers including Alastair Cook and Michael Vaughan stunned. How much do top Indian cricketers earn? The amount, if Ravi Shastri is to be believed, is jawdropping. And it certainly left former England cricketers like Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd stunned. While appearing in the podcast Stick To Cricket that also featured Alastair Cook and Phil Tufnell, Shastri was quizzed by former England captain Vaughan about the amount top India cricketers like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar typically earn. 'They earn a lot," Shastri said. 'They earn a lot through endorsements, for sure" before adding 'Upwards of Rs 100 crores. Which I would say is 10 million pounds." His revelation did shock Lloyd who yelled 'Wow!" in disbelief. 'I would say… you just calculate 100 rupees is a pound. So you work backwards and you calculate upwards of that because someone like MS Dhoni or a Virat Kohli or a Sachin Tendulkar at his pomp, they would do over 15, 20 ads," Shastri continued. 'It's per day. There's no time. They could easily do more because of the amount of cricket being played. So, you know, they'll do an ad for a year and give a day – just one day to shoot. That's all you'll get. And then you play it out as many times as you want," he added. view comments First Published: July 25, 2025, 10:48 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. IND vs ENG 4th Test Pitch Report: What to expect from Old Trafford? 'Very, very flat'

Manchester: The Old Trafford Cricket Ground ahead of the fourth test cricket match between India and England, in Manchester. (PTI Photo/R Senthilkumar) (PTI07_22_2025_000153A) It has been raining in Manchester for the past few days. The pitch at Old Trafford has reportedly been mostly under covers and is expected to help the fast bowlers. Team India captain Shubman Gill on Tuesday said the Old Trafford pitch might have more bounce than the previous three venues. However, former England coach David Lloyd and captain Michael Vaughan disagreed. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In the podcast Stick To Cricket, Ravi Shastri said, 'This pitch will have more bounce than others from what one's heard. If the weather is not that hot…' He was quickly corrected by Lloyd, 'Very, very flat. No pace, no grass.' Michael Vaughan also chipped in and said: 'The pace has gone since Old Trafford… (changed the axis).' Lloyd suggested that the spinners will get more from this pitch. Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir's late meeting near Manchester pitch | Playing XI discussion 'I'm not saying they're worried (in these parts, about the loss of sting in the pitch), but they understand that pace has gone out of the pitch… it could spin… The footmarks are there,' he said. Former England batter Mark Ramprakash echoed Lloyd's sentiments and predicted India might play Kuldeep Yadav in the fourth Test. Poll Do you believe the Old Trafford pitch will have more bounce than previous venues? Yes No Unsure 'India may also have a fresh left-arm spinning option if, as rumoured, Kuldeep Yadav comes into the side in Manchester. Traditionally, the Old Trafford surface tends to be dry and abrasive, and to turn as the game goes on. If ever there was a pitch where it would make sense for Kuldeep to come in, this would be it,' Ramprakash wrote in his Guardian column. The fourth Test between India and England will start on Wednesday at Old Trafford. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

‘Very, very flat': David Lloyd's verdict on fourth Test Old Trafford pitch, contrary to Shastri and others' assessment

It's come down to judging a pattern vs a first-hand perception. The Old Trafford pitch is throwing up plenty of speculation in the day's leading up to the important fourth Test of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. It might well decide selections, though with England announcing that Woakes, Carse and Archer will be in the Playing XI, and Shubman Gill saying there might be more bounce than any he's seen on the tour, the other narrative might just not stick. In a podcast, Stick To Cricket, Ravi Shastri echoed, 'This pitch will have more bounce than others from what one's heard. If weather is not that hot…' before proceeding to ask former English international and pundit David Bumble Lloyd. Bumble would flip the axis and declare, 'Very, very flat. No pace, no grass.' Michael Vaughan chipped in saying, 'The pace has gone since Old Trafford… (changed the axis).' All the intrigue stems from when the ground was restructured and its axis rotated, though it could simply be the higher summer temperatures in England. But county games have witnessed flat decks with a side of spin on the table. He proceeded to say that county matches are resembling batting beauties and also lasting long. 'The county matches, you could play day after day after day. It becomes an absolute slab. Rock hard.' He was not striking off chances of some early aid to pacers, but believed that the pattern had been of a pace-sapped track. 'There might be a bit of moisture in the beginning with all the rain. We've had some real thunderstorms recently. But the drainage seems to have sapped all the energy off the pitch. There wont be any pace. Not from what I've seen. I've been to every game at Old Trafford.' He would quip while coining a new term, 'It becomes a corporate pitch. It will go five days.' Former England batsman and batting coach Mark Ramprakash also wrote in his Guardian column about how the dry pitch should make India play Kuldeep Yadav. 'India may also have a fresh left-arm spinning option if, as rumoured, Kuldeep Yadav comes into the side in Manchester. Traditionally, the Old Trafford surface tends to be dry and abrasive, and to turn as the game goes on. If ever there was a pitch where it would make sense for Kuldeep to come in, this would be it.' India fielded Ravi Jadeja, Washington Sundar in the last Test, and Gill said he wanted to keep the suspense till morning of the match. But with Liam Dawson the only spinner (though they have Root, Brook), the pace assessment with rains looming and pelting might just hold.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: Ravi Shastri says Ravindra Jadeja lacks self-belief – 'If he has even 40%...'

LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 14: India batsman Ravindra Jadeja cuts for runs during day five of the third test match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 14, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) Former India coach Ravi Shastri feels Ravindra Jadeja lacks belief in himself, and that was the reason he couldn't finish the Test match at Lord's against England. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 61 as India lost the Test by 22 runs. However, the 36-year-old is in terrific form with the bat and has scored 337 runs in the series, including four consecutive fifties. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'I feel Jadeja, if he has even 40 per cent of the belief that Ben Stokes has, he will win you a lot more matches. Because there is no doubt about his talent,' Ravi Shastri said on the cricket podcast Stick To Cricket. 'It's just that he will have to go and take charge and believe in himself,' he added. Shastri emphasized that despite scoring three triple hundreds in first-class cricket, it took Jadeja a long time to realise his batting potential. Poll How much do you agree with Ravi Shastri's statement that Jadeja lacks self-belief? Strongly agree Agree Disagree Strongly disagree 'He has got three triple hundreds in first-class cricket. It took him ages to realise that he has that batting potential,' Shastri said. Speaking about the Lord's Test, he added: 'One of the great sights of this series was at the end of the Lord's Test, when Stokes and Jadeja hugged each other. Two of the best all-rounders in the business at the moment. Mutual respect in a tight game.' England lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-1, and the fourth Test of the five-match series will begin on Wednesday at Old Trafford in Manchester. Not Dravid, Sehwag or Rohit Sharma, former India head coach reveals his top 5 Indian cricketers, they are...

Ravi Shastri made some bold choices when asked to name the five greatest Indian cricketers of all time. He had to pick from India's 93-year history in international cricket a journey that has seen some of the world's finest batters and bowlers represent the nation across all formats. Shastri named two of his teammates from the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, which included captain Kapil Dev and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, in an interview with David Lloyd, Alastair Cook, and Michael Vaughan on the 'Stick To Cricket' podcast on the Overlap Cricket YouTube channel. Shastri reveals his top five all-time Indian cricketers Three decades after his retirement, Indian cricket has yet to replace Kapil, who is still regarded as one of the best all-round players the world has ever seen. Gavakar's batting prowess is unmatched in his opinion. In Test cricket, he became the first player in history to score 10,000 runs. To complete list, Shastri selected MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar, all key members of India's 2011 World Cup-winning squad. Sachin and Kohli are the players with the most hundreds, whereas, Dhoni is the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies. Ravi Shastri names Sahin Tendulkar as the greatest player The panellist then asked Shastri to name the greatest among them, to which Shastri responded with Sachin Tendulkar. 'Definetly Gavaskar. Kapil. Sachin. Virat definitely. I am looking at the most influential players of that era. Bishan would have been there but….. MS again. Bumrah is young. He has got cricket. I am saying the guys, who have almost finished their cricket. 70's Sunil, 80's Kapil, 90's Sachin, Dhoni and Virat. 'I would say (Gavaskar) Batting. Kapil fabulous player. Entire package, number one will be Tendulkar. Because of the expectations. Because of longevity. 24 years. Hundred 100's. He played every pace attack of that decade. He started with Wasim, Waqar, Imran. Then went to the Aussies, then the English attack. Pure technique-wise,' said Shastri. Ravi Shastri cricket career stats Shastri was among India's finest all-rounders, featuring in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs. He scored 3,830 runs in Test cricket, including 11 centuries, and claimed 151 wickets with his off-spin. He was also named Player of the Series during India's iconic triumph at the 1985 World Championship of Cricket.
