LIVE UPDATES: Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued for parts of region
UPDATE @ 5:55 p.m. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued until 6:45 p.m. for Darke, Miami, Montgomery, and Preble counties. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued until 6:15 p.m. for Butler and Preble counties in Ohio. Parts of the Miami Valley could be affected by strong to severe weather this weekend. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Storm Center 7's team of meteorologists continues to track dangerous heat and the risks for severe weather over the next 24 hours. We could see numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms before sunset, according to Storm Center 7 Weather Specialist Nick Dunn. 'Isolated instances of flooding are possible as well. Not every storm that pops will turn severe.' The severe threat is expected to diminish by around 10 p.m. tonight. Dunn said there could be a few lingering showers into the overnight, but coverage looks sparse. The chances appear scattered, and not everyone will get rain. The best window for severe storms on Saturday will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Storm Center 7's team of meteorologists will continue to track the upcoming storms. Ritz says we could see higher rain and storm chances later this afternoon and evening. Heavy downpours and lightning are possible with these storms. We could see on-and-off showers and storms on Saturday, with more chances on Sunday. 'Most of the heaviest rain will fall during the first half of the day,' said Ritz. 'Rain and storms will become more scattered late afternoon and evening.' Strong to severe storms are also possible next week. Storm Center 7 will update this story. An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Butler and Warren county in Ohio until midnight. It also includes Randolph, Union, and Wayne counties in Indiana. We will see warm temperatures today before chances for rain increase this weekend. Ritz says temperatures could reach the upper 80s. We will also see more clouds than sun. Part of the region is under an Air Quality Alert today. This means ozone levels may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, according to Ritz. To reduce ozone levels, you can do the following: Carpool Refuel your vehicle Do not idle your vehicle Mow your lawn during the evening hours and avoid using gas-powered lawn equipment. Ritz says it could be a wet Father's Day weekend. Scattered showers and storms are possible late Friday afternoon into early evening. Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Britley Ritz has the latest TIMING and IMPACTS this morning on News Center 7 Daybreak from 4:25 a.m. until 7 a.m. TRENDING STORIES: Does buying in bulk save you more money? Ritz says any storms should remain below severe limits. Afternoon showers and storms will be scattered later today, almost isolated, according to Ritz. 'An isolated severe storm with damaging winds or with small hail is possible; the best chance will be southeast of Dayton,' she said. Ritz added that these showers and storms should move faster than we saw over the weekend. 'Any heavy rain could cause flash flooding concerns due to excessive amounts from previous storms,' she stated. Storm Center 7 is tracking the chance for poor air quality across the area this weekend due to wildfire smoke from Canada. We will continue to update this story. Flood advisories have been issued for parts of the region as storms move through the Miami Valley. >> TRACK THE LATEST CONDITIONS: Live Doppler 7 Radar [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A FLOOD ADVISORY has been issued for Montgomery and Greene Counties until 6:15 a.m. and for Darke and Preble Counties until 4:30 a.m. A FLOOD ADVISORY has been issued for Randolph County, IN, until 6:30 a.m. and for Wayne County, IN, until 5 a.m. TRENDING STORIES: 1 hospitalized after drive by shooting in Dayton Back-to-back crashes cause hours-long backup on I-70 Fentanyl, cocaine, $12,000 seized after search warrant; 1 arrested The Weather Prediction Center increased the risk for Excessive Rainfall Saturday night into Sunday morning in the Miami Valley to a level 2 of 4 (slight) for most of the region. There is a level 1 of 4 (marginal) risk to the north. According to Storm Center 7 Weather Specialist Nick Dunn, this outlook highlights the threat of rainfall that can lead to flash flooding. While heavy rainfall is not expected to impact everyone in the Miami Valley, those who do get rain could see flooding issues if the rainfall is repetitive over the same areas.
