This new logo holds far more symbolism, with the hoops of the jersey making up an icon that represents the unity of the various communities that support our team. But this is about far more than just a logo. This is a statement about how we see ourselves and the way we connect with those who support us. We want all of them with us every step of the way as we break new ground.' Director of Rugby John Dobson emphasized that the new identity aligns with the Stormers' broader mission to 'make Cape Town smile.' 'This team is one of the best-supported in the world. We have some of the most vibrant rugby communities and no shortage of passion at every level. Stormers Rugby launches new logo, embracing a bold identity to unite fans

The Stormers will no longer have their iconic logo on the heart of the jersey as the team embraces change with a brand new logo ahead of the start of the new URC season. Image: BackpagePix Stormers Rugby stepped into a bold new era on Wednesday as they revealed a changed logo for the side ahead of the 2025/26 rugby season, stating that an upgrade was long overdue. While the change is set to meet resistance from parts of their supporters' base, the decision-makers of the company, the Red Disa Group, feel the time for change is right since they have taken over. After rescuing the Stormers from bankruptcy, after which the side captured the inaugural United Rugby Championship title (URC) against expectations, the next step for the Cape side was to continue with progress off the field. The hoops of our jersey, the shape of our stadium, the iconic bolt and constant movement towards a better future. Read more here: — DHL Stormers (@THESTORMERS) August 13, 2025 For over 25 years, the Stormers' previous logo, featuring a lightning bolt through the S, served the side, only slightly changing in appearance since the dawn of the team in Super Rugby. However, the logo revamp is set to take the team and business in a new direction as they look towards further success on the European rugby landscape. The Stormers will face Leinster next month in the opener of the URC in Cape Town, and the hosts are set to don their new logo on the chest for the first time, as well as the latest kit by Adidas, which looks set to rejoin the Cape outfit ahead of the new season. The decision to rebrand was not taken lightly by the owners, and they consulted with various role-players, including the players and fans. According to a Stormers release, the logo features the iconic hoops of the Stormers jersey wrapping around and interlocking in a striking design that gives a nod to the heritage of the team, while also showing constant movement as the Stormers head towards an even brighter future. 'The hoops connect with a subtle lightning bolt in the centre, while the shape of the logo itself invokes the dimensions of the team's home ground – DHL Stadium in Cape Town. The new era is framed by the mantra that we are all 'In it together'.' Johan le Roux, CEO of Stormers Rugby, expressed the necessity for this evolution, stressing that the updated identity aligns with the club's ambitions. even as a cheetah fan i like the new Stormer's logo ! but i think we can understand why some other people is being trigger by it 😅 — Oom Rugby (@Oom_Rugby) August 13, 2025

Next Stay Close ✕ There is especially excitement about the future of Muller, captain of Paarl Gim's first XV, and how he has excelled in the outside-centre jersey for the school. Another promising young player is flyhalf Ahmed. He has been outstanding in the Wynberg jersey with his overall skills. It's expected that Ahmed will form part of the SA Schools team again this year after starring for the team during last season's Under-18 International Series, while Muller is expected to make the step up from the SA Schools A side. John Dobson, the director of rugby at the Stormers, said they are excited about the strong influx of local talent, which aligns with their commitment to nurturing players from the community. 'This speaks to our aim as an organisation of harnessing the talent we have on our doorstep and strengthening the connection with our fans by contracting players from their communities to take our team forward,' Dobson said. Full story #wpjoulekkerding — DHL Stormers (@THESTORMERS) May 28, 2025 The decision to prioritise local talent is a critical component of Stormers Rugby's strategy. It enhances their pathway system, which has already borne fruit, as evidenced by the success of the Western Province U21s, claiming consecutive national title victories in the last couple of seasons. Many of these players have subsequently stepped into the ranks of the Stormers during the United Rugby Championship and Champions Cup, showcasing the effectiveness of the organisation's development approach. 'Of course, we still keep an eye on the most promising players from around the country and will make strategic acquisitions from outside the region if we feel they will make a big difference,' Dobson added.

Stormers lock in next generation of superstars

Future stars JC Mars, Divan Fuller, Zach Porthen, Asad Moos and Kyle Smith have all signed contract extensions with Stormers Rugby and are poised to continue their transition to the senior ranks. All five players are still young enough to feature for Western Province U21 as they look to make it three consecutive national titles in the SA Rugby U21 Cup, which kicks off with a coastal clash against Hollywoodbets Sharks U21 at City Park on Saturday. Mars and Smith are currently part of the Junior Springbok squad that is preparing to compete in the Rugby Championship U20, which will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha in the coming weeks. Outside back Mars, flyhalf Smith, flank Fuller and tighthead prop Porthen have already got a taste of senior rugby, having featured in the Currie Cup last season, with Mars also scoring on his Stormers debut in the Champions Cup clash with Harlequins in London in December. Director of Rugby John Dobson said that securing the signatures of these five homegrown stars underlines the intent of the contracting model and should give fans every reason to be even more excited about the future. 'We have seen the benefit of securing the cream of our local talent in recent years, with the likes of Damian Willemse, Salmaan Moerat and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu all coming through the ranks here before going on to represent the Springboks. 'These five players represent the next generation to take our team forward and thrill Stormers fans, along with the likes of Paul de Villiers, Gino Cupido and Imad Khan who have all committed their futures as well,' he said. Dobson added that with the SA Rugby U21 Cup kicking off this week, there will be more talent coming through the conveyor belt. 'We have one of the best schools system in the world and although it is not always possible to keep every good player from the region, we are focused on strategically bolstering our senior squad with young talent in the positions we require it. 'We have seen incredible success from the Western Province U21 side over the last two years and hope to see more of the same this year, with those players graduating through the system to make themselves household names for the Stormers,' he added.
