At least 2 charged after street takeover, racing incidents in Nashville area
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — At least two men were arrested overnight as part of the Metro Nashville Police Department's Street Racer Initiative, officials reported. According to Metro Police, the first arrest occurred after around 50 vehicles gathered at Blue Hole Road and Bell Road in Antioch. Reports said a 27-year-old man from San Benito, Texas was seen lighting fireworks in the middle of the roadway. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he reportedly fled, prompting a brief pursuit. Nashville police have arrested more than 200 people since starting the 'Street Racer Initiative' Once he was caught, officers searched him and reportedly found marijuana and fireworks in his pockets. He was charged with misdemeanor substance possession or casual exchange, misdemeanor obstruction of a passageway or sidewalk, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, misdemeanor inciting a riot and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He is being held on an $11,000 bond. Early Sunday morning, officers responded to Lebanon Pike near Shute Lane after receiving reports of vehicles doing donuts in a parking lot. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on a Nissan 370Z, and it fled at a high speed. According to reports, MNPD used a police helicopter to track the Nissan to Old Hickory Boulevard, where it fled from a second traffic stop. Which cars, trucks are stolen most often in Tennessee? Authorities used a spike strip to disable the vehicle, at which point the 22-year-old driver — Oniel Alvarado-Munguia — was arrested. He was charged with two counts of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle and one misdemeanor charge for driving without a license. Alleged street racer arrested after evading Metro police twice in one night
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A driver reportedly dodged Nashville law enforcement twice Saturday night, but they still took him into custody amid a Street Racer Initiative. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), a Dodge Charger was seen driving at a high rate of speed on Nolensville Pike at Harding Place when officers tried to perform a traffic stop on Saturday, March 1. 'If you're out there street racing in Nashville, your run's about to come to an end': Metro Councilmember frustrated by street racing Authorities said the Charger fled the scene, but MNPD Aviation followed it to Edmondson Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard, where officers attempted a second traffic stop. However, the Charger allegedly failed to yield again, traveling at 100 mph and passing vehicles in center turn lanes to evade police. Law enforcement apprehended the driver — identified by MNPD as 27-year-old Frank Eduardo Reyes-Borrayo — after the Charger backed into a parking space in the 2500 block of Murfreesboro Pike. According to officials, a semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the driver's side door, but Reyes-Borrayo 'is not a U.S. citizen and cannot lawfully possess a firearm.' Teen charged with street racing after police chase in Nashville The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said Reyes-Borrayo — whose age is listed as 25 rather than 27 in his jail records — is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $27,000 bond for felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon (vehicle), two counts of felony evading arrest (with a vehicle/risk of injury), misdemeanor unlawful possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor not having a driver's license. However, he is not eligible for release due to a detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. No additional details have been released about Saturday night's arrest. The vehicle fled and was followed by MNPD Aviation to Edmondson Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard. Officers then initiated a second traffic stop. Police say the driver failed to yield a second time, traveling at 100 miles per hour and passing other vehicles in center turn lanes to evade officers. Police successfully took the driver into custody after he backed the vehicle into a parking space in the 2500 block of Murfreesboro Pike. According to a release, a semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the driver's side door. Reyes-Borrayo is not a U.S. citizen and cannot lawfully possess a firearm, police said. He faces several charges including felony reckless endangerment, not having a driver's license, unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of evading arrest.
