Sarawak leaders ready for nation's top post, says Nanta

KUCHING (Aug 8): Sarawakians are fully capable and ready to assume the role of Prime Minister of Malaysia, said Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He expressed confidence in the leadership qualities and capabilities of Sarawakian leaders to take on the nation's highest political office.
Nanta specifically cited Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusuf as exemplary leaders who have demonstrated strong leadership and vision, making them well-suited to lead the country.
Nanta shared these remarks in a podcast interview with Sinar Harian, themed 'Perspektif Politik dari Bumi Kenyalang: Suara Timur Malaysia', aired recently.
'If there is any possibility, even now they can be (Prime Minister). Just look at the way they perform,' Nanta said.
Nanta, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Secretary-General, described Fadillah, the Petra Jaya MP, as possessing the leadership qualities required for national leadership, while also recognising Abang Johari for his visionary governance and commitment to economic transformation in Sarawak.
On the topic of recent political protests calling for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's resignation, Nanta urged the public to remain patient and allow the federal unity government to continue its reform agenda under the Madani concept.
'Give him the time and space to rebuild Malaysia. It is not apt to make the call for him to step down now,' he said, adding that the country has made notable improvements in economic resilience and investor confidence.
Nanta also acknowledged the Madani government's proactive role in facilitating Sarawak's long-standing demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the successful handover of Bintulu Port and MASwings to the Sarawak government.
'These rights were either eroded or not practised previously, but thanks to the Madani government, many of these rights are now enjoyed by Sarawak,' he said.
