Day after three of a family die by suicide, kin booked for abetment
Lucknow: A day after cloth merchant Shobhit Rastogi (48), his wife Shuchita (45), and their 16-year-old daughter were found dead, allegedly in a suicide pact at their flat in Ashrafabad in Chowk, the police registered an FIR against Suchita's elder sister, Mudita, and her husband, Vivek Siddharth, on charges of abetment to suicide. This action was based on a complaint filed by Sharad Rastogi, the brother of the deceased. "Sharad alleged that Suchita and her husband borrowed around Rs 40 lakh and handed it over to Vivek and Mudita. The couple believed that the money would be repaid after selling a piece of family land in Nepalganj, Nepal, which they were told was in Mudita's name," said ACP Chowk Raj Kumar Singh. However, when Suchita and her husband visited Nepal around 15 days ago to inspect the property, they found that the land was registered in the names of Mudita and Vivek's children, and not in Mudita's name as they believed. Police suspect that this revelation may have caused immense emotional turmoil, contributing to the couple's decision to take the extreme step. Earlier, the handwritten note, recovered from the scene, also suggested emotional betrayal, strained family ties, and debts as key triggers. The suicide note, allegedly written by the woman, described feeling isolated, rejected by close family members, and trapped under financial liabilities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "No one helps. Everyone is selfish," the note read. The woman also raised concerns about a suspicious incident involving her brother's death and cited continued harassment by another relative. At the scene, police found empty pouches of Sulphas, a toxic pesticide, and soft drink bottles believed to have been used to administer the poison. Investigators suspect that all three family members consumed the laced drink late Sunday night or early Monday morning. "The allegations in the note warrant deeper scrutiny," said DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
