Five-minute session of yoga held at workplace
The yoga session, which was conducted as per 'Y Break' (yoga break at workplace) protocol developed by the Ministry of AYUSH, was arranged by the Dakshina Kannada district AYUSH Department, in view of the 'World Yoga Day' celebration scheduled on June 21.
The interns started with Bhramari pranayama, which was followed by Naadi Shuddi pranayama. Then they demonstrated Tadasana, Skandha Chakrasana, Uttana Mandukasana, Kati Chakrasana, and Ardha Chakrasana. Dr. Prakash explained the benefits of each of the yogic practices and asanas.
Before the start of the session, District AYUSH officer Mohammed Iqbal stated that the 'Y break' protocol has been developed to help professionals practice yoga during their breaks at work. This set of pranayamas and yoga postures has been designed to help professionals alleviate work stress and stay fresh in the workplace. The 'Y break' protocol is also available through a mobile app. People can type 'Y break' to see videos related to yoga at the workplace, Dr. Iqbal said.

Ayush seminar to boost ayurveda‑based paediatric healthcare
New Delhi: Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ayush, is set to organise its 30th National Seminar, that will serve as a dynamic platform for ayurveda experts to advance knowledge, innovation and collaborative paediatric healthcare research, an official statement said on Sunday. Slated for August 18-19 here, the seminar on the theme 'Management of Illness & Wellness in Paediatrics through Ayurveda will bring together renowned scholars, practitioners, researchers, and students to deliberate on traditional Ayurvedic approaches and contemporary evidence-based practices for promoting child health and wellness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again underlined the importance of traditional medicine in building a healthier society. He has said, "Ayush is not merely a system of medicine, it is a holistic approach to life. By integrating Ayurveda and other traditional practices with modern healthcare, we can ensure wellness for every section of society, especially our children who are the future of the nation.' Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, has always extended strong support for initiatives that promote holistic child healthcare through Ayurveda. "Ayurveda has always emphasised nurturing the health of children as the foundation of a healthy society. The upcoming National Seminar of RAV on paediatric care is a timely initiative to highlight Ayurveda's holistic approach towards both illness management and wellness promotion in children,' said Jadhav. 'I am confident that the deliberations tomorrow and the day after will enrich practitioners, researchers and students, and contribute to advancing paediatric healthcare through Ayurveda,' he added. According to Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, the 30th National Seminar of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth is a valuable opportunity to bring together the Ayurveda fraternity on one platform. 'I am hopeful that the discussions will inspire new perspectives, strengthen evidence-based practices, and encourage greater collaboration in the field of paediatric Ayurveda. NEET cut-off dip a shot in arm for Indian med
Chennai: As admissions to medical and dental courses are likely to get tougher this year, more students have applied for Indian medicine - ayurveda, siddha, and unani - and homeopathy in 2025. Officials say an increase in sales of application forms reveals more students are turning to Ayush as a career option. When the deadline for applications ended on Thursday, the state committee for admissions in Indian Medicine had received about 7,900 applications, nearly 500 more than in 2024. The sale of applications had commenced on July 24. TN offers 320 seats in two govt siddha medical colleges, located in Arumbakkam and Palayankottai, as well as one college each in unani (Arumbakkam), homeopathy (Madurai), and ayurveda (Kanyakumari). Of these 320 seats, 48 are set aside for admission through All India quota. In addition, there are 1,920 seats in 29 private Ayush colleges. The selection committee admits students to ayurveda, siddha, unani, and homeopathy courses based on merit in NEET scores and the 69% rule of reservation. In 2024, when NEET scores in Tamil Nadu, and across India, soared, the top student to join the bachelor's course in Siddha medicine had a NEET score of 592/720. Top score was 585 for ayurveda, 551 for unani, and 547 for homeopathy. The difference in scores between students who joined govt colleges wasn't huge, as the last candidate to join siddha had a score of 539. Barring unani, where the cut-off was 433, all others had a cut-off above 500. Overall, the cut-off for Ayush admissions surged by up to nearly 300 marks in select categories. All seats in undergraduate courses for unani and siddha across colleges were taken, while five in ayurveda and 19 in homeopathy were vacant after nearly five rounds of counselling. This year, the cut-offs may come down drastically as scores in NEET 2025 were lower compared to the previous year's scores. Considering that students are bunched up between 400 and 550 marks, experts say many students are likely to take up admissions in bachelor's programmes of Indian medicine.
