Govt wants its men in top varsity posts: Ajsu-P
Ranchi: Ajsu-P chief Sudesh Mahto on Tuesday blamed the state govt for bringing the Jharkhand State University Bill 2025 with the intention to fill up important posts of universities with its persons rather than for promoting higher education. The bill, which has been approved by the cabinet, provides for appointment of vice-chancellors (VC), pro-VC and the financial advisor of universities by the state govt. While addressing the media persons at his party's headquarters on Tuesday, Mahto said, "The step is not a reform. It is aimed at ending the existing system in which governor has the powers to make the appointments. It seems that the state govt intends to place persons of its choice in these posts." He also accused the the govt of not fully implementing the National Education Policy in the state. Rural development minister Deepika Pandey Singh said that the new bill is to streamline the process of higher education and its management in a more transparent manner. "The bill will come up in the upcoming monsoon session of the state assembly where it will be opened up for debate," she said. TNN

AJSU Party chief alleges proposed university bill intends to serve self-interests
Ranchi, AJSU Party chief Sudesh Mahto on Tuesday alleged that the proposed bill seeking to enact an umbrella Act for all universities in the state is not intended to reform higher education but to serve self-interests. AJSU Party chief alleges proposed university bill intends to serve self-interests The Jharkhand State University Bill, 2025, was approved by the state cabinet on July 24, and it is likely to be tabled during the upcoming monsoon session of the state assembly. "I don't see that the bill is intended to bring any reform and strengthen the education system in higher education. It is being brought to serve self-interest," Mahto told reporters after the Milan Samaroh, during which several new members joined the party, at AJSU headquarters here. "As per the current system, the control of universities directly lies with the Governor. The government is not able to push its ideology or establish its own people in the current system. Therefore, the game of the new bill was planned," he said. He alleged that no work was started by the government on the National Education Policy . "The government doesn't show any interest to bring qualitative reforms in the syllabus of schools and universities. It has only interest in the posts," Mahto alleged. Jharkhand Rural Development minister Dipika Pandey Singh on Monday said the bill seeking to enact an umbrella Act for all universities, excluding medical and agricultural varsities, will be tabled during the session. The bill will bring revolutionary changes in higher education, and the opposition should support it, she said. The monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly will commence from August 1 and will conclude on August 7. There will be five working days during the session. Mahto said the party's main objective is to expose the government and its people during the session. "The people of Jharkhand elected a majority government. But, after eight months of the government, voices have started rising that it is not working in the interest of the people. In 2019, the government came to power by promising domicile and employment policies. They are still pending even after six years," he said. Addressing the party's 'Milan Samaroh' programme, during which several people joined it, he also raised questions over the limited number of days in the monsoon session. 'Our agenda for the upcoming monsoon session will focus on the law and order situation. Crimes related to land, land compensation, and the misuse of government machinery will also be prominent agenda items for the party," he said. 'The monsoon session will be convened for a very short period. There is a limited number of days. The government has not yet decided on a subject for open debate," he added. Ajsu-P planning to fight Bihar polls, says chief
1 2 Ranchi: Ajsu-P supremo Sudesh Mahto on Sunday said his party was planning to fight the upcoming state assembly elections in Bihar but the interest of NDA alliance would be top priority while coming to any decision. Attending the party's foundation day, which was observed as 'Baliddan Diwas', Mahto said, "People are approaching the party to contest elections in Bihar but the interest of NDA will be priority." Raising question marks on the timing of implementation of Maiya Samman Yojna by the state govt before the state assembly elections last year, he said, "Why was the amount distributed among 6.5 lakhs people who were later on declared ineligible. The scheme should have been linked to the basic parameters of people, including education and health." Welcoming the union govt's decision to hold caste survey, he added, "Most of the crimes in the state are related to land. A plot is being registered for half a dozen times. The circle officer and the police station in-charges are admonishing the real owner rather than the fake claimant." The state govt has drafted neither the employment policy nor the displacement policy, he claimed.
