Woman ends life five months after wedding in Erode
A 35-year-old woman, who had been married for five months, died by suicide in Erode on Wednesday (August 13, 2025). The police said Vinodhini, of Pachampalayam in Anthiyur, married S. Boopathi, 37, of Vettukattuvalasu in the city on February 16, 2025. The couple jointly ran a garment business. According to the police, disputes had arisen between them, and Vinodhini had repeatedly told her mother, Indirani, 54, that she did not wish to live. On Wednesday, Boopathi's relative Palanisamy informed Indirani that Vinodhini had been missing since the previous night. Indirani received an SMS from her daughter stating that she did not wish to live and that no one was responsible for her death. Indirani tried calling her, but could not reach her, and immediately alerted Boopathi. In the afternoon, family members searching near Boopathi's house found Vinodhini's body. Doctors at Government Erode Medical College and Hospital declared her dead. Based on Indirani's complaint, the Erode North police registered a case under Section 194(3)(i) (suicide by a woman within seven years of marriage) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The post-mortem was conducted on Thursday (August 14), and the body was handed over to relatives.
