Temporary closure of major roads in Penang for 2025 Pantai Marathon on June 22

GEORGE TOWN: Several major roads here and Bayan Lepas will be temporarily closed from midnight to 9 am on June 22 to facilitate the Pantai Marathon 2025 event. The Penang Pantai Hospital in a statement today said the affected roads include the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, Bayan Lepas Expressway Viaduct, Batu Maung Expressway Viaduct, and Persiaran Bayan Indah. The road closures are intended to ensure the safety of participants and facilitate smooth traffic management throughout the event, the statement added. 'Motorists coming from George Town and the Penang Bridge heading to Bayan Lepas, Bayan Baru, Bukit Jambul, or Jalan Tun Dr Awang can use Persiaran Bayan Indah - Jalan Aziz Ibrahim as an alternative route, while those from Bukit Jambul heading to George Town are advised to use the route via Sungai Nibong. 'The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge will remain open throughout the event, with only one lane closed at the Batu Maung area to ease traffic flow. 'The lower lanes of the Bayan Lepas Expressway will be fully open to the public,' the statement said. The statement added that road users are advised to plan their journey and follow all signage and police instructions during the event. The Pantai Marathon is an event that promotes a healthy lifestyle. Part of the funds raised is channelled to the Lions of Georgetown Mutiara Medical Fund to support underprivileged patients in need of medical treatment.

Alor Setar airport closes after RMAF jet lands on its nose

Screenshots of the video shared on social media in which the fighter jet can be seen skidding on its nose on the runway at Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Alor Setar. PETALING JAYA : The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has confirmed an incident involving a Hawk 208 light fighter jet at Alor Setar's Sultan Abdul Halim Airport. The aircraft reportedly skidded on its nose on the runway this evening. In a statement, RMAF said the aircraft experienced issues with its nose landing gear while landing on the runway at 5pm. Earlier today, a viral video showed the aircraft bouncing several times before its nose landing gear collapsed, causing it to skid on its nose. 'The aircraft was involved in an 'opening gambit' rehearsal for the launch of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025. 'The pilot is safe and was not injured,' RMAF said. It said it will establish an investigative team to identify the cause of the incident in detail. The New Straits Times reported Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) as saying in a travel advisory that the airport runway had been closed to facilitate the removal of the aircraft and subsequent runway clearing works. 'A notice to airmen has been issued, and the closure is expected to continue until 10.30pm tonight,' said the company. MAHB advised all passengers, including those travelling for haj, to check with their respective airlines or Tabung Haji for the latest flight information. 'The airport will provide further updates once the runway is declared safe and open for flight operations by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia,' it said.
