Report: Odell Beckham Jr. 'has drawn interest,' plans to play in 2025
Some things require seeing to be believed. One such thing is the future playing career of receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He has been forgotten since being released by the Dolphins during the 2024 regular season. Recently, he reminded the world that he's still interested in playing, by responding to a fake report indicating that Beckham had retired. Boosting Beckham's claim is this report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media/ESPN*, which looks and feels like a favor for an agent: 'Three-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. has drawn interest from several teams and plans to play somewhere in 2025, per source. As OBJ posted himself, he is not retiring, and he continues to train in anticipation of being on the field soon.' If he has drawn interest from several teams, why isn't he on one? Two years ago, the Ravens surprisingly overpaid him $15 million guaranteed on a one-year deal, in a move that may have paved the way to get quarterback Lamar Jackson to agree to terms on a five-year contract. Last year, the Dolphins paid Beckham a fraction of that — and it never clicked. Healthy when released after the trade deadline, Beckham's name was not mentioned once as a candidate to join a contender during the playoff run. Now, nine months after he became a free agent, he's suddenly in demand? Again, we'll believe it when we see it. Beckham started his career with Hall of Fame numbers through three seasons. Then, the decline began. And while Beckham was on track to be the Super Bowl LVI MVP before his knee with a pre-torn ACL gave out, he hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, his first year with the Browns. Last year, he had nine catches for 55 yards in nine games. It had seemed to be a foregone conclusion that his time in the NFL had ended. Maybe it hasn't. Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

Rams Were Smart to Keep Matthew Stafford in the Fold
Rams Were Smart to Keep Matthew Stafford in the Fold originally appeared on Athlon Sports. At one point early in the NFL's offseason, there was speculation that the Los Angeles Rams were ready to part ways with veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. After four seasons with the Rams, Stafford was given permission to talk with other teams in February — the same month Stafford turned 37. Stafford met with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants, but ultimately signed a restructured new deal with the Rams. Stafford passed for 3,762 yards with 20 touchdown passes and eight interceptions last season as the Rams finished 10-7, first in the NFC North, before taking the Philadelphia Eagles down to the wire in an NFC divisional playoff loss. Entering his 16th NFL season, Stafford ranks 10th all-time in passing yards and touchdowns, and he's poised to continue climbing those charts. More importantly, with a talented young defense and new weapons on offense, Stafford and the Rams are in good position to make a Super Bowl run. 'Honestly, not seeing decline from Matthew Stafford,' one rival scout told Athlon Sports. 'He can still sling the rock. Yes, Sean McVay and Les Snead need to start planning ahead. But extending his deal was the right move. It's a have and have-not league at quarterback, and they have one.' Those comments were made as part of the exclusive Rams scouting report in the Athlon Sports 2025 NFL Preview magazine, available online and at newsstands now. The Rams did see a decline in wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and they let the Super Bowl LVI MVP leave via free agency. They replaced Kupp with another veteran star, Davante Adams, and the expectation is that Adams and third-year pro Puka Nacua could be one of the league's best wide receiver duos. After a breathtaking rookie season, Nacua led the Rams last season with 79 catches for 990 yards. Adams, who split time with the Raiders and New York Jets last season, has 59 touchdown receptions in the last five years. He's had at least 997 receiving yards in seven straight seasons — with more than 1,300 yards four times. 'There's a lot of cool plays McVay can dial up with Davante Adams in the huddle to go with Puka Nacua,' the scout said. 'There aren't a lot of dudes who can compete for the football the way they can and freeze DBs with their footwork.' This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

5 most important players on Seahawks offense entering 2025
5 most important players on Seahawks offense entering 2025 The Seattle Seahawks made sweeping changes to their offense this offseason. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has been hired to install his scheme. The belief is that Kubiak's system will lead to offensive improvement for the Seahawks in 2025. With that in mind, we've identified the five most important Seahawks players on offense. Sam Darnold, QB The Seahawks swapped out Geno Smith for Sam Darnold at QB this offseason. Darnold signed a three-year, $100.5 million contract in free agency. The belief is that his balanced approach will lead to more consistent results offensively. John Schneider and Mike Macdonald are placing their trust in the 2024 Pro Bowl selection. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba broke out as a sophomore to record 100 receptions and 1,130 receiving yards last season. The former Ohio State standout enters his third campaign as the unquestioned No. 1 receiver for the first time following DK Metcalf's trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cooper Kupp, WR Speaking of Metcalf, Cooper Kupp was signed in free agency to help replace the outgoing pass catcher. Kupp plays a very different game from Metcalf stylistically, but he'll be Kubiak's top option to soak up the leftover passing-game targets. The Seahawks believe the Super Bowl LVI MVP still has something left in the tank. Charles Cross, LT The Seahawks recently exercised Charles Cross' fifth-year option, keeping him under contract through at least 2026. It's no surprise, given Cross' consistent play as the Seahawks' best offensive linemen. Talks could shift to a long-term extension. Grey Zabel, LG Schneider drafted Grey Zabel at No. 18 overall in the 2025 NFL draft. Zabel is being counted on to help upgrade an offensive line that struggled mightily throughout the 2024 campaign. His rookie-year contribution could help dictate the overall state of the O-line.

Mike Macdonald: Cooper Kupp was "a pain in the butt" to coach against
Mike Macdonald has experienced coaching against receiver Cooper Kupp, so he has an appreciation for what the receiver can do in Seattle's revamped offense for 2025. Kupp, 31, was released by the Rams at the start of the new league year last month. He ended up with the Seahawks on a three-year deal worth a reported $45 million. At the annual league meeting on Tuesday, Macdonald explained the challenges he faced when scheming against Kupp — which he'll now get to deploy while coaching him. 'You could have him covered on paper, but he's still going to get open,' Macdonald said. 'That's something you have to experience in-game. So, he's a guy that you have to account for on a lot of possession downs, high-leverage situations where we've got to have two guys on this guy. It's a little bit different than some straight-line, vertical guys where you want more of a high-low double. You want him surrounded as much as possible. You're allocating resources over there, it kind of shifts where those stress points are on the rest of the field. 'So, yeah, he's a pain in the butt.' Kupp has not played more than 12 games in a season since he put up one of the best-ever years for a wideout in 2021, winning AP offensive player of the year and Super Bowl LVI MVP. In 2024, he caught 67 passes for 710 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games for the Rams.
