Calgary bantamweight Jake (The One) Peacock returns to action in November in Tokyo
Canadian bantamweight Jake (The One) Peacock will take on Thailand's Suakim Sor Jor Tongprajin, better known as Suakim, in One Championship Muay Thai action on Nov. 16 at One 173 in Tokyo. Suakim, who turns 30 on Friday, has a record of 154-59-0 and has won five straight since opening his One Championship career by losing two of his first three fights in the promotion. Peacock was born without a right hand after the amniotic band was wrapped around his arm in the early stages of development, which stopped it from growing. The 32-year-old from Calgary only wears one glove but uses his right arm to deliver elbows and other strikes. So far, One Championship opponents have been unable to figure him out. He has won both of his fights in the promotion to date, defeating a pair of Japanese fighters. He won a decision over Kohei Shinjo in April 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, and stopped Shinji Suzuki by third-round TKO last time out in February in Lusail, Qatar. One's Muay Thai bouts feature three three-minute rounds (five rounds for a title bout) with fighters wearing four-ounce mixed martial arts gloves. Knockouts can be scored via punch, kick, knee, elbow or legal throw. The main event at Ariake Arena feature's Thailand's Superbon against Japan's Masaaki Noiri in a featherweight kick-boxing world title unification match. Superbon currently holds the title while Noiri is the interim champion. After winning and losing the featherweight crown, Superbon won the interim title by defeating Armenian-Belgian Marat Grigorian in April 2024 and was elevated to undisputed champion in January due to Azerbaijani-Belarusian title-holder Chingiz (Chinga) Allazov's inactivity. Noiri defeated Thailand's Tawanchai PK Saenchai in March to claim the interim title. Peacock earned his spot with the Asian-based combat sports promoter by winning the Road to One tournament to secure a US$100,000, six-fight contract. Married with two kids, Peacock is also the founder and head coach at Calgary's Dunamis Gym which he owns with his wife His father, Gavin Peacock, played soccer for 18 years, scoring more than 135 goals for England's Queens Park Rangers, Chelsea and Newcastle United among other clubs. He turned to ministry after his playing career, moving to Canada. Born and raised in London, England, Jake was enrolled in martial arts at the age of seven to learn discipline and self-defence. After moving to Canada at 14, Peacock transitioned to full contact Kyokushin Karate, eventually moving to Muay Thai and kick-boxing. — This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 14, 2025

ONE Championship: Superbon says Japanese crowd ‘won't help' Masaaki Noiri – ‘I'll beat him up'
Superbon has promised to spoil the party for Masaaki Noiri – and says the Japanese crowd won't save him when they meet in Tokyo. The Thai veteran will defend his ONE Championship featherweight kickboxing title in a unification bout against interim champ Noiri at ONE 173 on November 16, and is relishing the chance to perform in enemy territory. 'I'm the best. I will be the best and I will beat you up in Japan,' Superbon told the Bangkok Post, when asked to send a message to Noiri. While he's excited by the energy of the local fans, Superbon made it clear crowd support will mean little once the cage door shuts at Ariake Arena. 'It's not going to affect me anything,' he said. 'Every time when I fight around the world – in Europe, in China – I never hear the sound, like in Thailand. 'I have tournament championships in China, in Abu Dhabi. There was not anyone supporting me – I still became the champ. 'So know, when you are in the ring, nobody will help you. Nobody will help him.' The 34-year-old reclaimed the belt earlier this year after Chingiz Allazov was stripped for inactivity. Now he says he's focused on clearing out the rest of the division. 'It's not about the belt – I want to beat everyone at featherweight,' he said. 'I have nearly done it, but someone left [Allazov], so it's OK. Right now, I'm going to stay here to beat everyone in the featherweight division.' Another target remains Tawanchai PK Saenchai, who owns two Muay Thai wins over Superbon – a rivalry he's not ready to close the book on. 'There's not many people that I lose to, and then I cannot beat them,' he said. 'So he will be the plan for my future. If I can choose, I'm going to choose Muay Thai against Tawanchai – but whatever, Muay Thai or kickboxing, doesn't matter. I'm going to fight.' The Noiri clash will mark Superbon's first kickboxing bout since beating Marat Grigorian for the interim title in April 2024. Now he's looking forward to putting on a show in a country steeped in the history of the sport. 'Yeah, I'm excited to get back to kickboxing,' he said. 'I saw Rodtang's fight [against Takeru at ONE 172] – a lot of fans in Japan are crazy. They support the fighters. I love the Japanese fans. I'm going to show my best there.'

ONE 173: Superbon and Masaaki Noiri set for title unification showdown in Tokyo
ONE Championship has officially unveiled the first two matchups for its return to Japan later this year, and they are sure to have fans salivating at the prospect. At a glittering press conference in Tokyo on Monday, ONE boss Chatri Sityodtong revealed that Thailand's Superbon would battle hometown hero Masaki Noiri for the right to be called undisputed ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion, while reigning heavyweight MMA king Oumar Kane would defend his belt against the man he dethroned, Anatoly Malykhin. The two main events will headline ONE 173 at Ariake Arena on November 16, and Sityodtong also hinted that fan favourites Ayaka Miura, Nakada Yoshinari and Shinya Aoki were also expected to feature. Noiri booked his ticket to the unification bout after a stunning knockout win over Tawanchai PK Saenchai at ONE 172 in March to claim the interim title. But now he faces arguably the most dangerous striker in the division. 'I see that fight. I think Noiri has a lot of experience, more than Tawanchai in kickboxing,' Superbon said. 'But against me, it is different. I have a lot of experience in kickboxing. I'm the best in kickboxing, so I will be the best.' Noiri, meanwhile, said he was 'very grateful' to be fighting in such a high-profile event, and promised fans 'it will end with knockout – KO'.

ONE Championship rising star set for comeback in Bangkok at ONE Fight Night 32
Malaysian rising star Johan 'JoJo' Ghazali is returning to ONE Championship action on June 7 when he faces Colombian-American Diego Paez at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok at ONE Fight Night 32. Advertisement The 18-year-old phenom will be back where he made his name as one of the most electrifying talents in the game and a superstar in his native Malaysia. His opponent, Paez, is 13 years his senior and has just a single ONE appearance to his name: a split decision loss to Sean Climaco at ONE Fight Night 28 earlier this year. 'It's been exciting, you know,' Ghazali told the Post. 'Not many people know that I'm fighting soon, so it's gonna be a shocker for the Malaysian fans mostly here. 'He [Paez] comes to fight. He's experienced, he's strong, he's been around. He fought a pretty good fight against Climaco. 'I've been waiting for a fight for quite a while now – and yes, I'm ready.' Advertisement Now deep into his training camp in Bangkok, Ghazali is working with former ONE Featherweight kickboxing world champion Superbon Singha Mawynn and has continued to grow despite a unanimous decision defeat to Johan 'Panda Kick' Estupinan at ONE 170. 'I just got here a few weeks ago to get into a serious fight camp,' he said. 'In my last fight camp, I was going through a lot of change.
