North Carolina pets at risk of rabies as 'aggressive' fox runs rampant
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. – Officials are warning residents of Mount Airy, North Carolina, to be aware of a fox that may pose a danger to their families, including their pets. Multiple reports from Sunday state the animal was seen around the White Pines Country Club area and has shown "aggressive behavior," according to the Surry County Sheriff's Office. Given this behavior, officials have urged locals to make sure their pets, specifically their dogs, cats and ferrets aged 4 months or older, are up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations in case they are exposed to the fox. Officials noted this is in accordance with the North Carolina General Statue 130A-185. They added that multiple people have been exposed to the animal. Residents are strongly advised to be careful and to immediately report any wildlife that they see acting aggressively or unusually to Animal Control, which is currently investigating and attempting to locate the fox. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said all mammals are capable of contracting rabies. In the state, the most common carriers of the disease are foxes, raccoons, skunks and bats, while deer, coyotes, bobcats and other species have been known to carry the disease, as well. Aggressive fox reported in White Pines Country Club area, Surry County sheriff says
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Surry County Sheriff's Office is warning the public after multiple reports of an aggressive fox. According to a press release, on Sunday, the SCSO received multiple reports of a 'fox exhibiting aggressive behavior' in the area of the White Pines Country Club. The SCSO reports multiple human exposures related to the animal. Animal Control is actively investigating and attempting to locate the fox, but at this time, it has not been captured or confirmed. The SCSO is also reminding the public to ensure all pets are up to date on their vaccinations in accordance with the North Carolina General Statute 130A-185. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution and report any sightings of wildlife acting aggressively or displaying unusual behavior to animal control. Drug cartel leader's operations included Triad, US says
TRIAD — A Mexican national and high-ranking member of the Sinaloa cartel was arrested Wednesday in Nogales, Arizona, after being indicted last fall on federal charges accusing him of helping lead a large drug trafficking and money laundering conspiracy that operated in Guilford County and other parts of the region. Emmanuel Martimiano Leon-Soto, 42, of Naco, Mexico, is the last person arrested of 38 total individuals charged in November 2024 by a federal grand jury in the Middle District of North Carolina with conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine hydrochloride. He is one of 10 of the defendants also charged with conspiracy to launder the proceeds of the drug trafficking scheme. Among those previously arrested were Crandall Ortais 'Turk' Ingram, 32, Anthony Okurtis Rashad 'Ant' Lloyd, 29, and Nikonda Taye 'Slatt' or 'Big Boy' Ingram, 31, all of High Point, and Michael William Curtis, 49, of Archdale. The indictment specifically mentions Guilford County as a place that the drug ring operated but includes no other details other than the drugs involved, but among the law enforcement agencies listed in a U.S. Justice Department press release as cooperating are the Forsyth County Drug Task Force, Surry County Sheriff's Office, Davie County Sheriff's Office, Moore County Sheriff's Office, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Stanly County Sheriff's Office and Candor Police Department.
