Solar panels to be installed in 1 lakh houses in Prayagraj's Sangam City by 2027
In order to promote alternative sources of energy and reduce the cost of electricity, the state govt has rolled out 'Surya Rath' across the state to inform people about Prime Minister Surya Ghar Bijali Yojna. These 'Surya Raths' are connecting with the masses in all villages, blocks and cities. In Prayagraj district, the govt has set a target to install around one lakh solar power panels by 2027 in Sangam City. While over 27,000 people have enrolled for registration to install solar power panels, 5,355 solar units have been installed so far. These 5,355 solar units have managed to produce 19,587 KW of solar energy. UPNEDA project manager, Shahid Siddiqui said , "Prayagraj district has registered significant success in installing solar panels under PM Surya Ghar Yojna scheme of the state. We have set a target of installing one lakh solar panels in the district by 2027, whereas registration for installing 27,230 solar panels has been done so far." Moreover, as many as 5,355 solar panels were installed in this scheme in the district. Production of 19,587 KV of solar energy also started in the district by July 19. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a subsidy of ₹30,000 from the central govt and ₹15,000 from the state govt (total ₹45,000) is being given on one kilowatt capacity. For two kilowatts, a subsidy of ₹60,000 from the centre and ₹30,000 from the state govt, i.e., a total of ₹90,000 is being given. At the same time, for a load of three kilowatts and above, a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the centre and ₹30,000 from the state govt (total ₹1.08 lakh) is being given. Apart from urban areas, awareness campaigns are being run through various agencies to expand the scheme in rural areas and promote solar energy production. Surya Rath Abhiyan is reaching out to villages where the benefits of the PM Surya Kiran scheme and the need for solar energy are being shared with the rural masses. Siddiqui says that four blocks of the district have been selected for an intensive campaign that includes 20 gram panchayats. Similarly, Shringverpur village of the district is being developed as a model solar village with a budget of ₹1 crore.

Govt to spend Rs19,370cr on power subsidy: Dy CM
Patna: The state govt will now spend Rs 19,370 crore to provide 100% power subsidy to domestic consumers across the state, deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary announced on Thursday shortly after CM Nitish Kumar declared that 125 units of electricity will be given free to all domestic users. The proposal is expected to be cleared by the state cabinet on Friday, following PM Narendra Modi's rally in Motihari. Cabinet meetings are typically held on Tuesdays, but the schedule has been advanced in view of the announcement. Explaining the financial outlay, Choudhary said, "A sum of Rs 15,995 crore was earlier spent on energy grants. Now, the state govt will bear an additional burden of approximately Rs 3,375 crore in this financial year." As the move comes in an election year, opposition parties quickly accused the ruling NDA of copying the manifesto promises of the INDIA bloc. RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had earlier pledged 200 units of free electricity if the alliance came to power. Dismissing Tejashwi's remarks, Choudhary said, "What can be done if the child was in a hurry? The manifesto of the INDIA bloc has not even been prepared yet." The deputy CM also outlined future energy goals under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which aims to connect every household with solar power within the next three years. "The Centre is offering a 50% subsidy for installing solar panels. In addition, the state government will provide separate grants to beneficiaries. Our goal is to produce 10,000MW of electricity through this scheme," he said. Choudhary added that households installing 1kW solar panels would be eligible for free electricity for the next 25 years.

Delay in solar plant construction will lead to contract cancellation
Kothagudem: Singareni CMD N Balram has warned that solar plant constructions taken up by Singareni under the directions of the government must be completed within the contractually stipulated timelines, failing which the contracts of agencies will be cancelled, and they will be blacklisted. On Thursday, at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, he held a review with officials and concerned contractors on the delays in solar plant construction. The construction of the 54.5 MW solar plants pending under Phase 1 and the construction process of the 67.5 MW capacity solar plants pending under Phase 2 were reviewed on the day. Balram expressed dissatisfaction with the construction agencies causing delays without completing the works within the specified timeframe. He remarked that it is unfortunate that despite Singareni ensuring timely bill payments, the construction agencies are failing to complete their works on time. He instructed them to complete the assigned works quickly by October, making it clear that no further extensions would be given. He also ordered that the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) being set up alongside the 28 MW solar plant at Mandamarri must be completed by August. Under the Central Government's Surya Ghar Yojana scheme, he specified that all works related to the construction of 32.75 MW rooftop plants on various Singareni buildings must be completed by the end of December.

India achieves 4,000% growth in solar capacity
New Delhi: India's installed solar capacity has grown by an unprecedented 4,000% over the past decade, taking the country's total renewable energy capacity to 227 GW. Addressing the 11th India Energy Storage Week (IESW) in the capital on Thursday, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India may well be the first G20 nation to have achieved its Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. Goyal cited Palli village in Jammu and Kashmir, which has become the country's first carbon-neutral panchayat using solar power and energy efficiency measures. The IESW venue, Yashobhoomi, he pointed out, is itself designed as a sustainable complex with rooftop solar panels, wastewater treatment and energy-efficient infrastructure. Outlining the scale of India's clean energy manufacturing push, the minister said the country's solar photovoltaic module capacity has expanded nearly 38-fold in the last decade, while photovoltaic cell capacity has grown 21 times. He highlighted flagship schemes like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which aims to install rooftop solar panels in one crore homes, and the PM Kusum Yojana, which supports the use of solar pumps in agriculture. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cells is also expected to boost domestic manufacturing, he added. Goyal stressed that energy storage will be critical to India's plan to meet its future energy needs through renewable sources. He said technologies such as batteries, pumped storage, hydro storage and even nuclear power would play a role in ensuring round-the-clock clean energy. Calling for a four-pronged strategy to advance India's clean energy ambitions, Goyal listed innovation, infrastructure development, supply chain resilience and an integrated value chain as key priorities. He said India must lead in research and development for next-generation battery technologies, including solid-state and hybrid storage, while also developing circular supply chains. He referred to the recent Cabinet approval of a ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation Fund, which he said would help India match the scale of R&D spending in advanced economies due to its cost advantages. Goyal urged industry players to ramp up efforts to build charging and battery-swapping infrastructure to accelerate adoption of electric vehicles. He also stressed the need to cut dependence on limited geographies for raw materials and components by investing in resilient supply chains and new technologies.
