Video: Chain snatched from elderly woman in Jaipur, chilling powder thrown in eyes
A shocking chain-snatching incident was caught on CCTV cameras in Jaipur's Durgapura area on Tuesday evening when two bike-borne robbers approached an elderly woman and snatched her gold chain. Jaipur: Chain snatchers in the city are growing audacious, with two women targeted in broad daylight—one in an upscale locality and the other at Sindhi Camp bus stand—on the same day. In the first incident, a woman fell victim to chain snatching on a moving bus. According to DCP (west) Hanuman Prasad Meena, Diksha Prajapati reported that she was boarding a bus from Sindhi Camp to Bayana around 3.30pm Tuesday when a woman passenger forcibly snatched the gold chain from her neck. When Diksha resisted, the woman threatened her with a weapon resembling a screwdriver and fled. In another incident, Sushila Devi (65), a resident of Shanti Nagar in Durgapura, was attacked near her home while returning from a Jain temple. The incident took place around 7.45pm on a busy stretch in one of the city's upscale localities. Two men on a motorcycle approached her just 200 metres from her house. The pillion rider flung chilli powder at her face before pushing her to the ground and snatching her gold chain. Fortunately, Sushila Devi's glasses, worn due to an eye operation, shielded her eyes from serious harm. Woman, 60, shot dead in Bihar; Chirag Paswan expresses concern over law and order
A 60-year-old woman was on Saturday shot dead in Bihar's Nalanda, the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, an official said. A case has been registered and a manhunt launched to nab the accused, said police.(Representational Photo/HT) The deceased was identified as Sushila Devi (60), who was working in a hospital in Patna. "The incident took place in Doiya village under the jurisdiction of Noorsarai police station around 10 am on Saturday when Sushila Devi was returning from her agricultural field. "According to the woman's son, the assailants laid an ambush and shot her in the head. She was immediately rushed to the nearest government hospital where she was declared dead by doctors," Sadar-2 Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal told reporters. A case has been registered and a manhunt launched to nab the accused, he said. "Prima facie, it appears that some old property-related dispute might be the reason behind the incident... further investigation is on," he added. The incident in the district adjoining Patna comes close on the heels of a spate of murders that have rocked the state capital in the last one week. Opposition parties have been alleging that this was, indeed, a 'jungle raj' for which the RJD is often blamed. Meanwhile, NDA partner and Union minister Chirag Paswan also appeared rattled by soaring crime graphs. The Hajipur MP wrote on X on Saturday, "How many Biharis will be murdered? It is beyond understanding what is the responsibility of Bihar Police?" A 50-year-old man, involved in sand mining, was shot dead outside his residence in Ranitalab area in Patna on Thursday, barely a few days after the murder of top industrialist Gopal Khemka outside his residence situated on a busy street in the state capital on July 4.

PMCH nurse shot dead over property dispute in Nalanda
Patna: A 60-year-old woman, working as a GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), was shot dead over a land dispute in Nalanda district on Saturday. The incident occurred at Doiya village under Noorsarai police station area of the district when Sushila Devi was returning from her agricultural field. The woman was allegedly receiving death threats from her nephew, Nilesh Kumar, since Friday, police said, adding that further investigation is going on. According to the woman's son, Sonu Kumar, the assailants ambushed and shot her in the head. "I found my mother lying by the roadside. We rushed her to Biharsharif Model Hospital, where doctors declared her dead," he told reporters, alleging that the murder was committed by his cousins due to the property dispute. Sushila, widow of late Sunil Prasad, used to work evening shifts at the hospital and return home in the morning. "Matter of great satisfaction": Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after social security beneficiaries express gratitude for increased pension
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 10 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday expressed his satisfaction after social security beneficiaries thanked him for increasing their pension amount from 400 to 1,100 per month. Sushila Devi from Bakhtiyarpur, Lakshmi Devi from Chandwari, and other beneficiaries appreciated the increased pension amount, stating it will cover their monthly expenses and allow them to live with dignity. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying they would no longer have to rely on financial help, thanks to the increased pension. In a post on X, CM Nitish Kumar said, 'Today, I read the reactions of several people in the Hindustan newspaper, including Sushila Devi ji from Bakhtiyarpur, Lakshmi Devi ji from Chandwari in Mokama, Bandi Khatoon ji from Paliganj, Mahendra Prasad ji from Taregana Dih in Masaurhi, and Bhatt Kumar and his wife Geeta Kumari from Dinara in Bikram block. They all say that the increase in the pension amount will easily cover their monthly expenses, and now they won't have to stretch out their hands before anyone. CM Nitish Kumar has instructed the Health Department to ensure that all beneficiaries are provided with Ayushman Bharat cards. This will enable them to receive proper medical treatment free of cost in case of illness, further improving their quality of life. 'We want all of you to remain healthy and happy, and that is why I have instructed the Health Department to ensure that all of you are provided with the Ayushman Bharat card so that, in case of illness, you can receive proper treatment free of cost. The elderly, widowed women, and differently-abled individuals are an important part of society, and we are continuously working to improve their lives,' said the Bihar CM. The Chief Minister emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring that every section and class of society receives their full rights and respect. 'Ensuring that every section and class of society in the state receives their full rights and respect has been our priority from the beginning,' he added. The initiative, implemented on June 21, saw 1,227.27 crore transferred to beneficiaries' accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) on July 9. On July 11, Kumar will transfer 1,227.27 crore to over 1.11 crore beneficiaries under six social security pension schemes via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a slew of measures in poll-bound Bihar to strengthen his government's presence ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Some of the key measures include 35% reservation for Women in Government jobs, domicile policy, job recruitment drive, increased pension for social security beneficiaries, Ayushman Bharat cards and youth-focused initiatives. These measures are seen as an attempt by Nitish Kumar to consolidate his vote bank and attract new supporters ahead of the assembly elections.
