In a pointed response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent rally in Alipurduar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vehemently rejected the allegations of underdevelopment in the region.'Yesterday a vicious and false campaign was there at Alipurduar in North Bengal from a self-serving and politically motivated point of view for narrow power gains. "To enhance administrative accessibility, we established Alipurduar district as Bengal's 20th district in June 2014. Additionally, 37,000 land pattas were distributed, including 17,072 land pattas and 12,614 refugee pattas. The Jalswapna project provided drinking water connections to 2.11 lakh households, marking significant progress in infrastructure development," she wrote. "The infrastructure push includes the construction of over 4,266 km of roads under Pathashree scheme, costing approximately Rs 4,000 crore. Additionally, 45 new bridges were built across various rivers at an investment of Rs 150 crore," she wrote. Banerjee claimed that in a significant move for the tea industry, worker wages were increased to Rs 250, making it the highest in India. The Chaa Sundari project provided housing for 2,969 families, with 14,000 more receiving construction assistance. The govt also granted official language status to Rajbanshi and Kamtapuri, bringing the total number of official languages in Bengal to 13. Cultural initiatives included establishing development boards and academies and declaring Thakur Panchanan Barma's birthday a public holiday, said Banerjee. For tribal development, the state passed the Sarna/Sari religion recognition bill and prohibited tribal land transfer to non-tribals. Over 300,000 tribal people now receive the Jai Johar old-age pension, Banerjee added.

Kolkata families of kashmir attack victims receive financial aid from state ministers

The other two victims Samir Guha from Sakher Bazar in Kolkata and Manish Ranjan from Jhalda in Purulia will also receive Rs 10 lakh each. Meanwhile, the body of Army Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh , who died in an encounter between security forces and terrorists following a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir, was brought to his home in Nadia district. Sheikh is survived by his parents, wife, two children-a daughter and a son and elder brothers. Ali's elder brother is also serving in the Indian Army. The mortal remains of the martyred para-Commander Jhantu Ali Sheikh was brought to his native village on Saturday at Tehatta in Nadia district. Ali was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week, Banerjee said she also spoke to Ali's wife, who wants a job. "She has passed Class-XII and we will give her a job. Anyone, among other victims, who wants a job will also be provided. Arrangements for Ali's children's education will also be made in Kolkata. I have spoken to Ali's widow." The widow, along with their children, used to reside at the staff quarter at the Agra Cantonment in Uttar Pradesh and study in the army school.
