West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee , in Birbhum's Ilambazar on Tuesday, questioned the silence of the various national commissions on the alleged atrocities and harassment unleashed on Bengali-speaking migrant workers in the BJP-ruled states. Meanwhile, major controversy erupted after Delhi police refutes Banerjee's assault claim on Bengali-speaking migrants in Delhi in a video, which was allegedly "fabricated".Kanthi MP Soumendu Adhikari has filed a complaint with the cyber-crime branch of Delhi police against WB CM Mamata Banerjee for spreading a fake video.Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania said in a press conference that the police had taken immediate cognizance of the video shared by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee."The video is baseless and fabricated,' Dhania claimed. 'Upon inquiry, we identified the woman as Sanjanu Parveen. During questioning, she claimed that on the night of July 26, four men in plain clothes posing as police personnel took her and her child to a isolated spot and demanded Rs 25,000. She claimed that she had paid the money," Dhania said. However, the DCP said a detailed investigation was undertaken and CCTV footage was analysed."Following questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district, had asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal, and it became viral on social media," the officer said. Delhi Police claimed that the footage was deliberately created to defame the Delhi Police.Meanwhile, following call by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, around 800 migrant workers have returned to the state, Bengal police sources said. The Chief Minister has given a call to the migrant workers from West Bengal to return to Bengal and assured that her government would provide livelihood opportunities to these migrant workers and a scheme will be formulated.'If the migrants return to Bengal, we will also provide them with free ration and free medical treatment by giving them Swasthya Sathi card. We will also arrange for the admission of their children to the schools,' the Chief Minister vowed.Banerjee claimed that the national commissions send delegations to West Bengal on minor issues like lizard bites, but they remain silent when the Bengali-speaking people are getting harassed in other states or they even killed or water and electricity connections are disconnected at their homes.The Chief Minister iterated that the Bengali-speaking migrant workers are being harassed in the BJP-ruled states. 'At least ten detention camps have been set up at Gurugram in Haryana. In Assam, lakhs of people had been sent to detention camps. Now, there is an attempt to bring NRC to West Bengal under the garb of the SIR by the Election Commission of India,' the Chief Minister claimed.Meanwhile, BJP Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Suvendu Adhikari said, '"For the last few days, Mamata Banerjee has been spreading canards and misinformation continuously for the last few days. On July 27, she posted that a Bengali speaking woman and a child had been beaten up. The great liar of our state. I would urge Delhi based Bengalis to lodge an FIR against Banerjee," Adhikari said.'You are confusing between infiltrators and migrants. The infiltrators are those who entered from Myanmar to Bangladesh's Coxbazar relief camp and spread in entire India by entering Bengal from Bangladesh and Nepal.' Adhikari directed Kanthi MP Soumendu Adhikari to lodge an FIR in the cyber crime department of Delhi Police.

Namo Drone Didi scheme: 1,021 drones allocated to Punjab, 583 to Haryana, says Centre in Lok Sabha
Of the 14,500 drones approved under the 'Namo Drone Didi' scheme, 1,021 have been allocated to Punjab, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha Tuesday. The neighbouring Haryana has been allocated 583, nearly half of Punjab's allocation, while Himachal Pradesh has been given 75. Replying to a query by Lok Sabha MP Parshottambhai Rupala, Union Minister of State (agriculture and farmers welfare) Ramnath Thakur said that 1,094 drones have already been distributed across the country to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in 2023-24 with financial assistance from Lead Fertilizer Companies (LFCs), of which 500 have been distributed under Namo Drone Didi scheme. The scheme was launched in November 2023 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day speech that year, announced to train at least 15,000 Drone Didis across the country, ushering a tech revolution in agriculture by spraying fields with drone, thus cutting manual labor cost along with saving time and water. Modi had announced that the goal was to create at least two crore 'Lakhpati didis' (rural women earning in lakhs) in the country by empowering women running self-help groups (SHGs) under which drone training for women was launched. The Union ministry's reply further revealed that in Punjab, 57 drones have already been distributed to woman SHGs by LFCs with equal number of women from these SHGs given drone pilot training. In Haryana, 102 drones have already been distributed and equal number of women from these SHGs given the training. However, in the hill state, just 4 drones have been distributed until now. Minister Thakur further said: 'The Government has approved 'Namo Drone Didi' as Central Sector Scheme for providing 15,000 drones to the Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with an outlay of Rs 1261 crore for the period from 2023-24 to 2025-26. The major objectives of the scheme is to promote advanced technology in agriculture for improved efficiency, enhanced crop yield and reduced cost of operation and to empower SHGs as drone service providers for increasing their income and providing livelihood support to them.' 'Under this scheme, Central Financial Assistance (CFA) @ 80% of the cost of drone package up to a maximum of Rs. 8.00 lakhs is provided to the selected women SHGs. 15 days drone pilot training for one of the members of SHGs and 5 days drone assistant training to other member/family member of SHGs is provided as a part of drone package,' he added. 'LFCs have distributed 1,094 drones to drone didis of SHGs in 2023-24 using their internal resources. Out of these 1,094 drones, 500 drones have been distributed under the Namo Drone Didi Scheme. Members of these SHGs have been trained as drone pilots at various Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs) authorized by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The allocation of remaining 14500 drones has been informed to the State Governments as indicated,' the reply adds. The ministry also admitted that women trained as Drone Didis were facing some practical issues related to batteries, transportation etc on the ground. 'Agricultural Development and Rural Transformation Centre (ADRTC), Bangalore have carried out a study on economics and business viability of drone operations on the 500 drones distributed by LFCs under Namo Drone Didi scheme. The findings indicate that kisan drones cover an area of one acre in 7-8 minutes and the flight time on a single battery charge of the kisan drones of various manufacturers ranged from 5-20 minutes. The drone package under Namo Drone Didi scheme includes one standard battery set and additional four battery sets,' says the reply. On the transportation issue, the ministry said: 'The study report also indicates that, where the utility vehicles were not provided with the drones supplied by LFCs, 42.68 per cent of the Drone Didis faced transportation related issues, with the South (78.82%) being the most affected. Moreover, 68.66 per cent drone didis also reported that hiring a transport vehicle was costly. To address the drone transport issue, a provision has been made under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) to provide financial assistance @ 80% to the Women SHGs identified under Namo Drone Didi scheme for purchase of Multi-utility machines, which are also used as drone transport. Overall, the adoption of drones has diversified SHG activities, improved agricultural practices, and increased income opportunities for women in rural communities.'

Both A- and B-khata properties come under GBA and as a guarantee of the properties, e-khata is being issued. So far, 6.5 lakh e-khatas have been issued. To create awareness about e-khatas, we are organising a massive awareness campaign from October 22 to November 1. We have given directions to make use of teachers, Bescom bill collectors and BBMP workers in this campaign,' he said. 'We will issue guidelines on getting B-khatas converted to A-khatas from August 15. Details such as eligibility and application process would be released soon,' he added. Speaking on the Green Bengaluru initiative, he said they have received 10,345 suggestion and complaints and 9,700 have been addressed. 'CCTV cameras will be installed and penalties will be imposed on people dumping waste,' he added. Hebbal Flyover section to be opened by Aug 15 Shivakumar said they are planning to inaugurate the new section of Hebbal flyover, newly developed Shivananda Circle and multi-storied parking near Gandhi bazaar before August 15. 'We have sought a date of August 6 from the CM to open the Hebbal to KR Puram Flyover project,' he said. On BJP State President Vijayendra's criticism that frequent Delhi visits of the CM and DCM was affecting governance, he said, 'We are travelling to Delhi on July 31 to meet ambassadors. On August 2, we are attending a programme on the constitution at Vigyan Bhavan.'

Stone mafias damage Dhunkapada's sacred ecology
Berhampur: The tranquil hills of Ganjam now resonate with the rumble of a brewing storm—not of nature, but of protest. Amid allegations of unchecked illegal stone mining and heritage devastation, a powerful united voice has emerged from the grassroots. Villagers of Dhunkapada in Ganjam district, led by Arati Devi, the former Sarpanch who revolutionised the panchayat system in Odisha, are raising their voice against illegal stone mining. Following an inquiry ordered by the State Revenue Minister into rampant stone mafia activities, a report was submitted by the district administration. But Arati alleged that the report was one-sided. Arati has accused the stone mafia of not only destroying the ecological sanctity of five surrounding hills, but also crippling a lifeline she once built—a Rs 25 lakh reservoir and canal system that irrigated the fields of over 500 farming families. This heritage system, she says, now lies choked. The flow of water from the reservoir to the agricultural fields has been diverted as the mafias have filled the canal with boulders to facilitate the movement of their trucks. The once-sacred Giri Gobardhan temple, revered by local farmers, teeters on collapse, she alleges. The local farmers used to offer flattened rice and jaggery to Lord Giri Gobardhan with a belief that there will be rain to facilitate farming. The national bird peacock is dying under the impact of illegal blasting. Arati and the villagers took up this issue with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Grievance Cell in Bhubaneswar. She demanded action within seven days or else she said they will stage an indefinite dharna at Raj Bhavan. Her anguish was palpable as she recounted ecological destruction such as illegal blasts, dying peacocks and poached blackbuck calves which were once protected in this landscape. 'This isn't just about stones,' Arati Devi said. 'It's about the soul of our land. About our water, our wildlife, our worship and our farmers' future,' she said. The question looms: Will the Chief Minister act decisively. Or will the silence of the hills deepen into despair? The fate of a community, its culture and its ecology hangs in the balance.
