Experts speculate Samsung's spinoff of foundry business will boost trust and competitiveness, Samsung says it's too early

ANI 30 May 2025, 13:39 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], May 30 (ANI): Samsung Electronics is likely to spin off its foundry business from the broader semiconductor division, on the same conflict of interest that separated Samsung Biologics from its biosimilar business and contract drug manufacturing, reports the Korea Device Solution (DS) division consists of memory chips, its foundry business (which manufactures chips for other companies), and System LSI (which designs logic chips, including Samsung's Exynos processors). This dual role as both a designer and manufacturer has sparked worries about potential technology leakage to competitors who rely on Samsung's foundry services, such as Nvidia and Qualcomm.'Trust is critical in the foundry business,' an anonymous industry source told The Korea Herald. 'For fabless companies... there's always concern that sensitive design data could be exposed to competitors. Spinning off the foundry business would reduce these risks and make Samsung more competitive.'According to market experts, Samsung plans to take out its foundry unit, arguing that organisational independence would help the company respond quickly to clients' demands and scale faster to keep up with technological many argue that now is not the right time. Lee Jong-hwan, a system semiconductor engineering professor at Sangmyung University, noted that while a spinoff mirroring TSMC's specialisation would be ideal in principle, the currently loss-making foundry isn't in a position for such a move. 'The company must first return to profitability and then consider a spinoff when it's ready. It's too early for now,' he week, the biotech arm of Samsung Group, Samsung Biologics, also announced its spin-off off its biosimilar operations into a new holding company, separating them from its contract development and manufacturing organisation business to sharpen the strategic focus of each unit.'A similar conflict of interest conundrum has long weighed on Samsung Electronics' Device Solution division, which houses three distinct yet interconnected semiconductor operations under one roof: memory chips, foundry and System LSI. While the foundry manufactures chips for fabless companies, System LSI is responsible for designing logic chips, including Samsung's own Exynos,' Korea Herald said. (ANI)

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 expected to launch with Exynos 2500 chip? Here is what you need to know

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 new chipset leaks: The smartphone market is buzzing with the newest speculations about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7. This highly anticipated smartphone is supposed to include some interesting new capabilities, and tech fans are anxious to discover more. If recent leaks are to be believed, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could revolutionize the foldable smartphone market. In this post, we'll look at the latest news and rumors about this gadget, including what we know so far and what to expect from Samsung's next-generation foldable. We'll examine everything from anticipated updates to release date rumors. Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 expected launch The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 should become official in early July, alongside One UI 8. Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 new chipset According to Sammobile sources, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will use the Exynos 2500 processor in most regions, including India and South Korea. This is the first time an Exynos processor will be used in a Galaxy Z series phone. It has the model number S5E9955 and replaces last year's Exynos 2400 (S5E9945) processor, which was utilized in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ in most countries worldwide. The Exynos 2500 is a 3nm chip built by Samsung's in-house chip company, System LSI, and manufactured using Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm production node. According to prior reports, it has a 10-core CPU, an Xclipse 950 GPU (based on the AMD RDNA 3.5 architecture), and 16MB of L3 cache. Samsung often employs Exynos CPUs in its high-end phones in most countries, with the exception of Canada, China, and the United States. It will be the same with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung could continue with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Chinese and North American markets. The Exynos 2500 may be a better option for thin phones like the Galaxy Z Flip 7, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite gets hot in ultra-thin phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge. However, things will only become clearer after we review the phone in the following months. Also Read: Samsung Galaxy S25 FE launch timeline surfaced online: Expected to make a debut with Exynos 2400e chip, 4,700 mAh battery, 120Hz refresh rate, and more Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 expected specifications Rumors have circulated about the Galaxy Z Flip 7's storage and RAM variations. The clamshell is now believed to come with 12GB of storage (no 16GB variation or anything spectacular to expect here), as well as the standard 256GB and 512GB of non-expandable storage. We are unlikely to receive a 1TB option. Previously, it was anticipated that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 would not have significant design updates. However, freshly published renders suggest that the Z Flip 7 will feature a revamped cover display, which may be larger than previous models. The Flip 7 maintains its clean, flat edges and will be available in a variety of bright, vivid colors. We may notice fresh blues, greens, silver, or white. The phone should maintain its robust build and solid hinge as before. In the meanwhile, many people are worrying about the crease. Samsung practically eliminated it with the Z Flip 6, so the Flip 7 will make it even less noticeable. Even if the phone becomes slimmer for a sleeker appearance, it is likely to feel strong and well-built, just like its predecessor. Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 7 expected price According to speculations, Samsung plans to keep its foldables priced the same this year. If this is accurate, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 might start at $1,099 for 256GB of storage. For the latest and more interesting tech news, keep reading Indiatimes Tech.

Samsung Galaxy S26 series once again rumored to mark a return to Exynos

This year's flagship Galaxy S25 family has entirely been powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset by Qualcomm, no matter where you live, due to the yield issues with Samsung's own Exynos 2500 SoC. This has been rumored to change next year, and today yet another rumor 'confirms' (as much as any rumor can) that the Galaxy S26 models will have the Exynos 2600 chipset inside - but, due to yield issues, these Exynos-powered S26 units might only be launching in Europe. For a while Europe has been Samsung's preferred market for Exynos chips, and it remains a mystery why. But if this rumor pans out, it's looking like Europe will once again get the short end of the performance stick, as the same source claims the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be ahead of the Exynos 2600, unsurprisingly. Interestingly, Samsung's System LSI division, which designed the Exynos 2500, is said to have incurred an estimated loss of around $400 million from the fact that Samsung hasn't used that chip in the S25 family. So the company obviously wouldn't want something like that repeated. Source
