Hardik Pandya To Undergo Fitness Assessment Ahead Of Asia Cup 2025: Report
Last Updated: All-rounder Hardik Pandya will go through the assessment procedure in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12. The Asia Cup 2025 is loading, and ahead of the continental tourney, it has been learned that premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya will undergo a fitness assessment at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The 31-year-old had been a crucial cog in India's successful campaigns at the T20 World Cup 2025 and Champions Trophy earlier this year. The star all-rounder has been training in Mumbai since mid-July, and the team will be counting on him to win the Asia Cup, which gets underway on September 9. According to The Times of India, Pandya will go through the assessment procedure in Bengaluru on August 11 and 12. The report further stated that Shreyas Iyer had completed his fitness assessment between July 27 and 29. Iyer recently led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, just a year after guiding Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title. However, he hasn't played T20Is since December 2023. It will be interesting to see whether he makes the cut in the upcoming continental tourney. Meanwhile, captain Suryakumar Yadav will spend another week at the COE to gain full fitness under the watchful eyes of the physios and medical team. He had an outstanding IPL 2025 season, scoring 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians and winning the Most Valuable Player award. He was the second-highest run-scorer of the season, just behind Sai Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans, who made 759 runs. After Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following India's 2024 T20 World Cup win, Suryakumar became the full-time T20I captain. Since then, India have won 17 of the 22 matches under his leadership. Shubman Gill To Be Named Vice Captain After a promising start to his captaincy career, he is now set to take on a key role in the T20I setup as well. According to RevSportz, Gill is likely to be named India's T20I vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. Gill's recent IPL performances with the Gujarat Titans have been exceptional — scoring 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80, 426 at 147.40, and 650 at 155.88 in the last three seasons. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Four giants set for thrilling semi-finals at U19WC25
The ICC Women's U19 T20 World Cup 2025 moves into its closing stages on Friday with two thrilling semi-finals in store. South Africa will take on Australia in the first while reigning champions India will face England in the second later on in the day. Here's a look at what could be in store. Australia have bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament – with Lily Bassingthwaite the standout, boasting six wickets and an economy rate of 2.22 – and will be hoping their top-order batting begins to fire. They will need to be in prime form for this clash. The group stage was straightforward for them, beating Scotland and Nepal easily before a closer contest against Bangladesh, and they followed that up with a good win against West Indies in the Super Sixes. They already knew they were through to the semi-finals before they played Sri Lanka in their last Super Six match, which may have contributed to them becoming the only semi-finalists to be beaten in the tournament. South Africa have been hampered by rain throughout the tournament, and have not played a full 40 overs so far. It is difficult, then, to assess their true form, but then it will be equally tricky for opponents to prepare for their batters, considering they have batted for fewer than 27 overs in their four matches combined. The bowlers have done exactly what has been required of them, with captain Kayla Reyneke leading the way, taking nine wickets with an average economy rate of 4.03. But the knock-out stages will prove a sterner test than they have faced thus far. Defending champions India are favourites to retain their crown, with a nine-wicket win over West Indies, an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh, a 60-run win over Sri Lanka and a 150-run win over Scotland. But now they come up against England, who have made their way past a few big obstacles to get this far – beating Pakistan by six wickets, USA by eight wickets and New Zealand by six wickets. India have some stand-out shining stars – most notably Trisha Gongadi at the top of the batting order and the superb Vaishnavi Sharma, with 12 wickets already in the tournament including a hat-trick. England will be hoping to remove Trisha as soon as possible and then have their fingers crossed that the India middle order and tail have not had the match practice to fend off their own fine bowling attack, led by spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, who has taken seven wickets so far. With the bat, Davina Perrin has been England's best performer thus far, with 131 runs to her name, and she will seek to add to that haul.
